    He was a U.S. Navy veteran having served during the Vietnam War. He was a member and past commander of the Iola American Legion Sheveland-Taylor Post #14. He also was a member of the Waupaca County American Legion, having served as vice comander and commander. He had been a dairy farmer and also had worked as a mechanic at various places. He enjoyed fishing, camping, dancing and golfing. Family and friends knew him as a gentle, nice, quiet man.
    Richard is survived by his wife, Arlene "Rena", Iola; two sons: Richard (Sherral) Heckenlaible II, Iola; Dale (Connie) Heckenlaible, Buffalo, MN; a grandson, Ty Heckenlaible; a sister, Sue (Gordon) Grosnick, Seymour and three brothers: Dwayne (Irene) Heckenlaible, Arizona; Robert (Carol) Heckenlaible, West Bend, and Byron (Peggy) Heckenlaible, Freedom.
    A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 5, 2009, at 11 a.m. at the Voie Funeral Home in Iola. Rev. Mark Sabin will officiate. Friends may call Friday from 9 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Inturnment will be at the Central Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in King.

  • Note: Bessie I. Presteen, 89, Appleton, passed away Saturday, December 4, 2010, at Brewster Village. She was born in Black Creek January 31, 1921, to the late Frank and Elsie Lemke. On June 18, 1944, she married Harold Presteen and he preceded her in death in July of 1999 after 55 years together. Bessie was a homemaker; enjoyed bus trips, time spent at their cottage and visits from her grandchildren. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church for over 60 years.

    Bessie is survived by her sons: Vernon Presteen and fiancee Kathy Tuttle, Appleton, Gary (Sue) Presteen, Neenah; grandchildren: Eric (Heidi) Presteen, MN; Holly (Nawai) Kane, Appleton; two great-granddaughters: Lauren Presteen and Kailey Kane; a sister Evelyn Lom; sisters-in-law: Lucille Schultz and Dorothy Henke.

    In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold; brothers-in-law: Ed Lom, Gordon Rohm, Roy Schultz, Martin Anderson, Reinhold Sommers and Carl Henke; sisters-in-law: Mildred Sommers, Margaret Schalming, Elva Anderson and Laureta Rohm.

    Funeral Services for Bessie will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, December 11, 2010, at the Valley Funeral Home with Rev. Leon Knitt officiating. Interment will be in Highland Memorial Park, Appleton. Friends may visit the family Saturday from 9 - 11 a.m.

    The family wishes to express a special thank you to Brewster Village, Heartwood Homes and ThedaCare at Home for their care and compassion shown to Bessie.

    Age 78, died on Friday, July 9, 1999, at his home. He was born in Britton, South Dakota, on September 3, 1920, to the late Henry and Lena Presteen. On June 18, 1944, he married Bessie Lemke. Harold moved from South Dakota to Black Creek and later to Appleton. He was a veteran of World War Ii, serving in the Navy. He worked at Giddings and Lewis from March of 1951 until his retirement in January of 1983. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and bus trips. Harold was a member of Faith Lutheran Church for over 50 years.
    He is survived by his wife, Bessie; sons, Vernon Presteen and friend Kathy Tuttle, Appleton; Gary (Sue) Presteen, Neenah; grandchildren, Eric and Holly Presteen; sisters Elva Anderson, Arizona; Lucille Schultz and Laureta Rohm, Appleton; Dorothy (Carl) Henke, Shawano; borther-in-law, Reinhold Sommers; sister-in-law, Evelyn Lom, Appleton, Appleton; other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters Margaret Schalming and Mildred Sommers; brothers-in-law, Martin Anderson, Roy Schultz and Gordon Rohm.
    The funeral service will be on Tuesday, July 13, 1999, at 11 a.m. at Valley Funeral Home-Appleton with Pastor Paul Brinkman officiating. The visitation will be on Monday at the funeral home from 4 until 7:30 p.m. and again on Tuesday from 10 a.m. Until the time of the service.

    Harold was preceded in death by his parents; father and mother-in-law, John Sr. and Rose Calnin; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Sally (Ed) Plach.

    There will be Private family services held for Harold, per his request.

  • Note: Lloyd C. Techlin, age 86, passed away on Monday, August 18, 2014, after a courageous battle with leukemia. Lloyd was born on April 14, 1928, to the late Alfred and Edna Techlin. He grew up on a farm in the Town of Center and farmed there all of his life. On September 8, 1951, Lloyd married Shirley Wendt, daughter of the late George and Hilda (Schroeder) Wendt, and they spent 62 wonderful years together. He greatly enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, and playing Sheepshead. Lloyd especially loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

    He is survived by his wife, Shirley Techlin; sons, Randy Techlin and Kim (Penny) Techlin; grandchildren, Ryan (Jessica) Techlin, Tamara (Christopher) Mattioli, Jason Techlin, Aaron (Kristin) Techlin, Amber Techlin, and Tyler Techlin; great-grandchildren, Elijah and Lilliana Mattioli, Jocelyn and James Techlin, and Pierce Faskell; sister-in-law, Arlene Techlin; and brothers-in-law, Merle (Ruth) Wendt, Larry (Carol) Wendt, and Jim Kiefer. Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents, parents-in-law; son, Tommy Ray Techlin; brother, Harold Techlin; and sister-in-law, JoAnn Kiefer.

    Funeral services for Lloyd will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 21, 2014, at ST. PETER EV. LUTHERAN CHURCH, N2740 French Road, Appleton. A time of visitation will be held at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established.

    The family would like to extend a special thanks to the Hematology and Oncology staffs at AMC for all of their compassionate care.
