    Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 9, 1969, at 2 p.m. from St. James United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Thad J. Rutter officiating. Friends may call at Brettschneider Trettin Funeral Home after 2 p.m. Friday, August 8, 1969, until 10 a.m. Saturday morning and then from 11 a.m. at the church until the hour of the service.

He was a member of Mount Olive Lutheran Church, Appleton, and had served in the Navy during World War II. Survivors include his wife; two daughters: Mrs. Richard (Carole) Hungerford and Mrs. Gerald (Shirley) Kliener, both of Shiocton; a step-daughter, Mrs. Marvin (Carol) DeWall, Appleton; two sons: Duane and Larry, both of Shiocton; and a step-son, Kenneth Wehrman, Appleton; five sisters: Mrs. Grace Krobbe, Mrs. Francis (Ethel) Meredith and Florence Ziesmier, all of Appleton; Mrs. Arthur (Gladys) Krause, Hortonville; and Mrs. Merlin (Eline) Kuse, Appleton; 22 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Star of Hope Chapel, Appleton, with the Rev. Richard Pankow officiating. Entombment will be in the Star of Hope Masoleum.     Florence was born February 2, 1925, in the town of Ellington, the daughter of the late Fred C. and Cora May (Alvord) Riehl. She was a graduate of Shiocton High School, and moved to Appleton in 1964. Prior to her retirement, Florence was employed for many years at the former Rich's Bakery in Appleton.
    “Grandma Toy” was an avid card player, joining her friends regularly in playing sheepshead on Sundays after church and Wednesday afternoons at the VFW. She loved to cook, and had an extensive doll collection. Her favorite times were family gatherings, especially at the holidays, watching the Wisconsin Badgers play sports, and the companionship of her pet chihuahua, Pepper.

    Survivors include her daughter, LuAnn (Greg) Drews, Appleton, her son, Robert (Donna) Ziesemer, Appleton; her four grandchildren, Nicholeen (Dan) Gavinski, Greenville, Robert Chad Ziesemer, Appleton, Heidi (fiance, Ryan Haas) Drews, Madison, and Ashley Drews, Madison; three great grandchildren, Tyler, Brandon, and Liberti Gavinski; a sister, Grace Krabbe, Appleton; three brothers-in-law, Francis Meredith and Merlin “Buff” Kuse, both of Appleton, and Arthur Krause, Hortonville.
    Florence was preceded in death by three sisters, Ethel Meredith, Gladys Krause, and Elaine Kuse, and a brother, Lyle Riehl.

    Funeral services for Florence will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 23, 2006, at ZION LUTHERAN CHURCH, 912 North Oneida Street, with Rev. Larry Matthews officiating. Interment will be in Emmanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Seymour. Friends may call on Sunday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home, and again on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at the church. A memorial fund in Florence's name is being established.
    The family would like to express their thanks to Florence's special neighbor, Ronnie McIntire for his caring and friendship given to her, and also to her friend, Eric Harthun, for his caring and friendship.

    Gladys M. Krause, 77, died unexpectedly April 1, 2006, at Theda Clark Medical Center with her loving family at her side. Gladys was born July 31, 1928, daughter of the late Fred and Cora (Alvord) Riehl. On June 1, 1946, she united in marriage to Arthur in Hortonville, Wisconsin. Gladys drove school bus for the Hortonville School District for 17 years before retiring in 2003. Over the years, she also worked at the Hortonville Canning Factory and on the family farm. She was a longtime member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and the Ladies Aid. Gladys enjoyed playing cards and being with her grandchildren. She received much joy over the last few years from Jadyn, the little one who kept her in lin
    Gladys is survived by her husband: Arthur; her children: Carol Lillge; Kay (Mike) DeBraal; Cheryl (Stephen) Bergmann; Michelle (Kenneth) Stoffel and Keith (Sharon) Krause, all of Hortonville; her sisters: Florence Ziesemer, Appleton and Grace Krabbe, Freedom; brother-in-laws: Francis Meredith and Merlin Kuse of Appleton and sisters-in-law: Karen (Lloyd) Koeppl and Lola Mae (Myron) Rieland, Hortonville. She is further survived by many grandchildren: Amy (Manual) Silva, Kevin Cornell, Michael Cornell, Melissa Bauer and fiance Dan; Michael DeBraal Jr. and fiance Jayme; Nicole (Mike) Schultz, Robin (Barb) Krause, Ryan (Julie) Krause, Cory (Kelly) Krause, Paul Bergmann and fiance Candice; Jason Bergmann, Luke Bergmann, Brendan Stoffel, Colin Stoffel and Jadyn Stoffel. She is also survived by ten great grandchildren, as well as many other nieces, nephews and card playing friends.

    The funeral service for Gladys will be held Wednesday, April 5, 2006, at 11 a.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Hortonville with Rev. Ralph Rosenberg officiating. Friends may call Tuesday evening at Borchardt Moder Funeral Home in Hortonville from 4 to 8 p.m. and on Wednesday from 9 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. Arthur was born on March 3, 1928, son of the late Arthur and Ethel (Pagel) Krause Sr. On June 1, 1946, he was united in marriage to Gladys Riehl in Hortonville. Arthur was a dairy farmer all of his life and also a volunteer fireman for many years. One of Art's greatest joys was to be in one of his John Deere tractors working the land. He also enjoyed bowling, playing cards, but especially loved being with his family.

    Arthur is survived by his children, Carol Lillge, Keith (Sharon) Krause, Kay (Mike) DeBraal, Cheryl (Stephen) Bergmann and Michelle (Ken) Stoffel, all of Hortonville; sisters, Karen (Lloyd) Koeppl and Lola Mae (Myron) Reiland, Hortonville. He is further survived by numerous grandchildren, Kevin Cornell, Michael Cornell (special friend Carrie), Melissa (Dan) Heiting, Michael DeBraal Jr., Nicole (Mike) Schultz, Robin (Barb) Krause, Ryan (Julie) Krause, Cory (Kelly) Krause, Paul (Candice) Bergmann, Jason (Eliane) Bergmann, Luke (Tori) Bergmann, Kimberlee (Andy) Derks, Brendan Stoffel (special friend Brittany Bauman), Colin Stoffel, and Jadyn Stoffel; 21 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

    Arthur was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Gladys; grandson, Jesse Krause and son-in-law, Dennis Lillge.

    A funeral service for Arthur will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September, 29, 2016 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Hortonville. Pastor Ralph Rosenberg and Pastor Joel Jenswold will be officiating. Friends may call on Wednesday, September 28, 2016 from 5-8 p.m. at Borchardt & Moder Funeral Home in Hortonville and again Thursday from 9 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. Entombment will be at Highland Memorial Park in Appleton.

    A very special thank you to Arthur's granddaughter, Kimberlee, for all the love and care she gave grandpa. She was his special nurse. The family also wishes to thank the staff at Southern Care Hospice Services for their care and concern.

  • Note: Merlin "Buff" Frank Kuse, age 78, of Appleton, passed away Monday, April 11, 2011, at Theda Clark Medical Center following a short courageous battle with cancer. He was born on February 28, 1933, in Appleton, son of the late Ervin and Merdine Kuse ("Grampa Jake"). Buff resided in Appleton his entire life. He was united in marriage on June 10, 1961, to Elaine Riehl and they shared 37 years together.

    Buff was employed with Sears up until the time of his death. He also worked for Kools Brothers and Stokley's. He was a volunteer Fire Fighter for the Town of Menasha. He was a member of the Appleton Moose Lodge. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He enjoyed working with all the "Kids" at Sears.

    Survivors include his two daughters: Brenda (James) Vaubel, Appleton, and their children Sara Kuse, Brittany Vaubel and Christopher Vaubel; Tammy (Robert) Sprotte, Neenah, and their son, Alex Sprotte (special friend Brandi Archer); six sons: Guy (Donna) Young, Menasha, and their children, Ben and Lauren; Dale (Theresa) Young, Green Bay, and their son, Will; Terry Kuse, Menasha; Thomas Kuse (special friend Kathy) Shawano and their children, Shaun (Kristina) Glodowski, Jana (Ryan) Nantelle, Tyler Kuse, Teal and Hunter Staniforth; Dennis Kuse, Menasha; Chad Kuse of Lakewood, WA; his five angels (great grandchildren) Corey and Connor Kuse, Erica Brown, Samantha Archer and Lily Glodowski; his third daughter: Carmen Leduc, our family's guardian angel; a brother: David (Connie) Kuse, Appleton; half-brother: Roy Thomson; sister-in-laws: Grace Krabbe, Freedom; Marie Kuse, Wabeno, Gwen Kuse, Appleton; a brother-in-law: Arthur Krause, Hortonville.
