  • Note: Bruce G. Bessett, age 60, died suddenly of a heart attack on Thursday, September 15, 2011 at Theda Clark Medical Center. Bruce was born in Appleton on December 6, 1950 to the late Vernerd and Clarice (Whittlin) Bessett. He worked at Tuttle Press for 19 years, and most recently has been working for SCA Tissue for the past 18 years. Bruce was an avid Packer fan. He loved riding his Harley, watching westerns on TV, and was a military history buff - especially WWII and the Civil War. He enjoyed meeting with his friends at the Richmond St. Pub and Gi Gi's Bar.

    He is survived by his only son, Benjamin L. (Jeannette) Bessett, Appleton; 2 brothers: Neil (Mary) Bessett, Brussels, and Brian (Randy Hamann) Bessett, Appleton; 2 sisters: Cathie (Dave) Seidl, Weyauwega, and Karen (Mark) Burt, Appleton. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and many special friends.

    A Memorial Service will take place at 2:00 PM on Saturday, October 1, at the Brettschneider-Trettin-Lederer Funeral Chapel with Deacon Rick Simon officiating. Friends may visit at the funeral chapel on Saturday from 11:00 AM until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.

    Gilbertson, Alice "Alli"


    Alice "Alli" Gilbertson, age 91, New London passed away on March 24, 2010, at St. Joseph Residence in New London. Alli was born in May 26, 1918, in New London, the daughter of the late Joseph and Loretta (Day) Komp. She and her late husband Ralph "Beno" ran a combination liquor/gas station/ beer bar and grocery store, in Augusta for many years before retiring to Northport.

    Alli is survived by a daughter, Ronda Kay (Wayne) Poppy, New London. She is further survived by her grandchildren: Robin, Randy, Ryan and Rene, numerous great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

    Her husband Beno preceded her death on October 30, 2007.

    The funeral service for Alli will be held on Friday, March 26, 2010, at 11 a.m. at the St. Joseph Residence Chapel in New London. Friends and family may call directly to St. Joseph's from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery in the Town of Lebanon.

Clarice was born June 6, 1926, in the Town of Center to the late Albert and Celia (Day) Wittlin. She married Vernerd Bessett on May 14, 1947, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Stephensville. Puttie was a life long member of the "Die Hard Cub's" fan club as well as an avid Packers and NASCAR fan. Jeff Gordon was her favorite driver. She enjoyed Country music and Irish tenor, Danny O'Donnell. She was also an avid gardener with beautiful rose bushes.

    She enjoyed her family and will be sadly missed by her children: Cathie (Dave) Seidl, Weyauwega; Bruce Bessett, Neenah; Karen (Mark) Burt, Appleton; Neal (Mary) Bessett, Brussels and Brian (Randy Hamann) Bessett, Appleton; Grandchildren: David (Fran) Seidl, Denise Seidl, Ben (Jeanette) Bessett, Jim Nabbefeld, Amy (John) Canne, Matt Burt, Shaun Bessett, Ryan Bessett and Megan Bessett; Great Grandchildren: Christopher Routh, Alexandra Seidl, Elizabeth Seidl and Nolan Nabbefeld; Great Great Granddaughter, Lola; and her loyal companion, Kitty Julie.

    Clarice was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and two sisters: Marge Weber and Ethel Baumann.

    A Mass of Celebration for Clarice will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday, November 29, 2010, at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Appleton with Rev. Thomas Farrell officiating. Entombment will be in Highland Memorial Park, Appleton. Friends may visit family at the funeral home Sunday from 5-8 p.m. with a prayer service beginning at 7:30 p.m. There will also be visitation prior to the Mass at church beginning at 10 a.m. A memorial fund is being established.

    Mary was a lifelong homemaker and member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She enjoyed gardening, watching the hummingbirds that would frequent her garden, and traveling. She also enjoyed her flowers, crafts, puzzles, and cherry picking in Door County.

    Mary is survived by Michael Dethardt (Appleton); Rosemary Baker (Town of Menasha); Emery R. Krueger, John Krueger, Joan Hazen (Appleton); Timothy (Marlene) Krueger (Neenah); Barbara Krueger, Joe Krueger, Kristine Krueger (Appleton). She is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, numerous sisters- and brothers-in-law, and other relatives and friends.

    Mary was preceded in death by her husband; parents; daughter Catherine; son David; son Michael; son-in-law David Baker; 2 grandchildren; one great-grandson; and 5 sisters and brothers.

    Mass of Christian Burial will be held 6:30 PM on Wednesday, October 2, at ST. JOSEPH CATHOLIC CHURCH, 410 W. Lawrence St., Appleton, with Rev. Jim Leary, OFM Cap officiating. Mary's family will receive relatives and friends at the church on Wednesday from 4:00 PM until the time of service. Interment will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Appleton.

    In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in Mary's name.

    The family wishes to thank the staff at St. Elizabeth Hospital, with a special thanks to Brenda, for the care Mary received.
