  • Note: Roman L. Berg, age 95, of Kaukauna, passed away on Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at Appleton Medical Center. He was born on September 3, 1918, in Appleton, the son of the late Fred and Alice (Langenberg) Berg. Roman served in the U.S. Army from January 7, 1942 until October 9, 1945. On October 3, 1944, he married Alice Damro at St. Leo's Parish in Tacoma, Washington. Roman and his brother Cy owned Berg's Dry Cleaners in Kaukauna, and he retired from the business in 1983. He was a faithful and active member of St. Katharine Drexel Parish, where he volunteered his time with church collections. Roman was a member of the Kaukauna Lions and Elks Club. He was active in golf and bowling leagues, and especially enjoyed the friendship of the "Dirty Dozen". His family meant the world to him. He loved spending time with his wife and children and looked forward to family boating time on the water.

    Roman is survived by his son Larry Berg of Toronto, Canada; daughter Bonnie (Rick Collins) Berg of St. Louis Park, Minnesota; grandson David Berg of Toronto, Canada; and his sister Louise Damro of Kaukauna. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Roman was preceded in death by his wife Alice Berg and nine siblings.

    The family would like to thank the entire staff at St. Paul Elder Services for the care and compassion shown to Roman over the last few months.

  • Note: Alice F. Berg, Kaukauna, age 88, passed away on Sunday, September 12, 2010, at Theda Care Hospice Residence in Appleton. She was born November 11, 1921, to the late Helmer and Bernice (Guilfoyle) Damro in Appleton. On October 3, 1944, she was united in marriage to Roman Berg at St. Leo's Parish in Tacoma, WA, and together they celebrated 65 years of marriage.

    She is survived by her husband, Roman; her son, Larry Berg of Toronto, Canada, and her daughter, Bonnie Berg (special friend, Rick Collins), Minneapolis; a grandson, David; two brothers: Jack (Louise) Damro, Kaukauna and Richard Damro, Colfax, WI. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Ruth, a brother, Charlie, and an infant brother.

    Private family services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund in Alice's name is being established for the Community Hospice Foundation. Boettcher Family Funeral Home, Kaukauna, is assisting the family.

    The family would like to thank the staff at Theda Care Hospice at Home and the staff at Hospice Residence in Appleto.

  • Note: Louise Damro, born in Appleton in 1925 to Fred and Alice (Langenberg) Berg. She moved to Kaukauna as a child and remained there the rest of her life. In 1946, she married Jack Damro. They were married for 65 years before his death in 2011. She was the secretary of their couples bowling league. Due to their love for dancing, especially the jitterbug, they formed the Cabaret Dance Club. She and Jack were also members of the Dirty Dozen Golf League. Louise worked as a waitress at the Out-O-Town Club, Van Abels and Villa Restaurant, retiring in 1993. In her leisure, she sewed many of her childrens clothing, cross stitched numerous baby quilts, was an avid reader and card player, especially sheepshead and solitaire. She loved doing crossword and picture puzzles, fishing, especially at High Falls and Lac Vieux Desert, traveling and going to the casino with her husband Jack, and was an avid Packers, Brewers, and Badgers fan.

    She is survived by her nine children: Dottie (Don) Beeching, Menominee, Michigan, Lynda (Bill) Schuh, Freedom, Carol (George) Miraben, Santa Fe, New Mexico, Colleen Maass, special friend Jerry Cady, Cecil, Joyce (Tim) Gaffney, Kaukauna, Mark (Mary Beth) Damro, DePere, Ken Damro, Viroqua, Mary (Todd) Ritter, Lafayette, Colorado, Hollie (Blake) Jersey, Menominee Michigan; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren.

    Louise was the last survivor of 11 children. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Sally West, Irene Gabriel, Leone Lamers, Ethel Berg, Ramona Berg, Lucille Balgie and twin sister, Lois Bachman, and brothers, Norb, Cy and Romy Berg. She was further preceded by son-in-law, Ron Maass and great granddaughter, Nevaeh Onesti.

    There will be a memorial service held in Louise's honor at 5 p.m. on Friday, April 21, 2017, at ST. PAUL HOME CHAPEL, 316 E. 14th Street, Kaukauna with Fr. Jerry Pastors officiating. There will be a time of visitation from 3 p.m. until the time of service. Online condolences may be expressed at www.wichmannfargo.com.

    In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in Louise's name.

    Family wants to thank the staff of St. Paul Elder Services and Hospice for their compassionate care of Louise over the past 5 years.
