    David W. Haanen, 40, Neenah, formerly of Kaukauna, died unexpectedly on Friday, July 3, 2009, in Oshkosh. David was born on Sept. 11, 1968, in Kaukauna, the son of Dr. William Haanen and Marianne (Wick) Haanen. David lived in the Kaukauna area for nearly 20 years and attended Kaukauna schools. He was employed at Packerland Packing in quality control for over eight years. David was an avid outdoorsman who loved nature, scuba diving, rafting, and spending time with family and friends.

    He is survived by his children, Tyler and Miranda Haanen; his mother, Marianne Lechler (husband, Arthur Look); his father, Dr. William (Peggy) Haanen; his brothers and sisters, Michael (special friend, Sandy), Thomas (special friend, Katti), Michelle (Bill) Richlen, Julie Gerow (special friend, Kent Boettcher), Mary Fink (fiance, Dennis Schink), Karen Seiler and Krista (Chris) Welsh; a half-brother, Justin Haanen; a stepsister, Nicole Schram. He is further survived by the Lechler and Look families, numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

    He was preceded in death by a sister, Catherine Haanen; stepfather, Eugene Lechler; his paternal grandparents, Louis and Gertrude Haanen; maternal grandparents, Alphonse and Theresa Wick; and numerous other relatives.

    David's Mass of Christian Burial will be at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, July 8, 2009, at HOLY CROSS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 309 Desnoyer St., Kaukauna, with Fr. Bob Kollath officiating. Friends will be received on Wednesday at Church from 1 p.m. until the time of service. Burial will take place in the parish cemetery.

    In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund in David's name is being established.

    Robert "Bob" G. Smits, 37, died unexpectedly Friday, July 3, 3009. Bob was born in Green Bay, Wis., a son of Gary and Judy (House) Smits.

    He was a graduate of West De Pere High School and worked for a local concrete company.

    Bob enjoyed hunting, fishing, making others laugh, and he was a jack-of-all-trades.

    He was a high school wrestler and held a few records.

    Bob's greatest pleasure was his daughter, Brooke, and her soccer games or anything in which she was involved.

    Bob is survived by his parents, Gary (Judy) Smits; daughter, Brooke Smits; brother, Joseph (Diane) Smits; fiancee, Kim Johnston; stepchildren, Miranda and Brittany Kulow. He is further survived by his grandparents, Lloyd (Jean) Smits; aunts and uncles, Judy (Mike) Rottier, Max (Colleen) Smits, Gloria (Mike) Vander Logt, Glen (Julie) Smits, Pete (Penny) Smits, George (Dar) House, Nancy (Tom) Rasmussen, Jerry (Sherry) House; Kim's family and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

    Bob was preceded in death by his grandparents, George (Ethel) House; and uncles, Paul Smits and Richard House.

    Visitation for Bob will be Tuesday, July 7, 2009, at RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 305 N. Tenth St., De Pere, from 4 to 8 p.m. Oneida Singers at 6:30 p.m. and Prayer Service at 7 p.m. Celebration Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Holy Apostles Church, Freedom Road, Oneida, with Mother Kristina Henning, Deacon Edmund Powless and Deacon Deborah Heckel officiating.

    Burial to follow in the church cemetery.

  • Note: Judy (Smits) Rottier, 65, passed away unexpectedly at her home of natural causes on January 15, 2017. Beloved wife of Mike Rottier, adored mother of Addie Smits and devoted daughter of Jean (Janssen) Smits, and the late Lloyd Smits.

    Judy was a lifelong resident of the Green Bay area and graduated from Ashwaubenon High School in 1969. Judy was united in marriage to Mike Rottier in May of 1986. She retired from Moore Response Graphics after 30 years of dedicated service. Her career started by running the machines and ended in creative design where her amazing talent was best utilized. Judy loved building campfires, planting gardens, and going up north. She loved all things outdoors. She was best known for her personalized cards and handmade projects that brought smiles to those around her. She could find a treasure anywhere. She was thoughtful, present and supportive. She always helped and cared for those around her. She cherished her large family and always celebrated the holidays, birthdays and special occasions with them. She will be missed an immense amount. Her family can't imagine how to live in a world without her.

    Judy is survived by siblings Gary (Judy), Max (Colleen), Gloria VanderLogt (Mike), Glen (Julie), Pete (Penny), Mike's family, many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. She is preceded in death by her father Lloyd, brother Paul, and nephew Robert.

    Visitation will be at Ryan Funeral Home 305 N. Tenth Street, De Pere on Thursday, January 19, 2017 from 4-7 PM. A service for Judy will take place at 7PM. Please go to www.ryanfh.com to send online condolences.
