    Lintner, Irma Frances


    Irma Frances Lintner, 90, of Chilton, passed away peacefully at the Calumet Medical Center on March 24, 2010. She was born November 28, 1919, daughter of the late Clifford and Lucy (Busse) Lambie of Kaukauna. She graduated from Kaukauna High School as Valedictorian of her class in 1937. She married Earl Lintner on February 13, 1947.

    She is survived by her daughter, Marilyn (John) Turnbow, Lubbock, TX; sons: Tom (Judy), Milwaukee; Jim (Lynne), Appleton. She has eight grandchildren: Sean (Masa) and Colin (Tina) Turnbow, and Kim, Paul (Nicole), Andy, Brian (Sandra), Eric and Nick Lintner, as well as four great-grandchildren.

    Irma was a member of the Eastern Star for many years where she served as a distinguished officer. She was also a member of the Farm Bureau, and served as a leader in the Tip Top 4-H Club. She and her husband Earl ran a successful Guernsey dairy farm in rural Chilton and was active in the support of the Calumet County Fair and other County activities. No services are planned. She is our mother, and we miss her.

  • Note: Mrs. Walter Lopas (Gertrude) 417 Whitney St., Kaukauna, age 81, died Wednesday in Kaukauna Community Hospital after a lengthy illness. She was born July 10, 1899 in the Town of Woodville and was a life long Kaukauna resident. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
    She is survived by her husband, Walter; a daughter, Mrs. Elroy (Pearl) Schroeder, Appleton; a son, Lester Lopas, Kaukauna; a sister, Mrs. Art (Meta) Dix, Kaukauna; seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
    She was preceded in death by a daughter, Mabel, and a grandson, Lester. The complete funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Andrew Martens officiating. Interment will be in Highland Memorial Park, Appleton. Friends may call after 4 p.m. Friday at Fargo Funeral Home, Kaukauna, and after 1 p.m. Saturday at the church.

Johann Lopas

  • Note: Johann Lopas Sr. was my great, great, great, great grandfather. He was
    born on August 8, 1826 in Germany. He died on November 27, 1897, at
    the age of 71 years, 3 months, and 19 days. He married Johanna Balgie
    (1827-1911) in Resch, Germany. In 1862, when he was 35 years old,
    Johann Lopas, Sr. left Germany and immigrated with his family to
    America, settling in Waukesha County, Wisconsin. His family included
    his wife Johanna, 34 years of age, and their two sons, John Jr., 9 and
    William, 6. They left Switzerland in 1862. They crossed the ocean in a
    sailing ship and were on the water for seven weeks.
    The Civil War started, and President Lincoln called for 75,000
    volunteers. Wages were$8.00per month, and you would get 16 acres
    of land when the war was over. On August 5, 1861, an additional
    300,000 men were called to serve for 9 months. Wisconsin's Quota
    was 11,904 men. You could get someone to serve for you as a
    substitute if you could afford to pay him $300.00. Johann Lopas Sr. was
    lame. He walked from Waukesha to Madison when he was drafted in
    the Civil War (I estimated 65 miles). When he got to Madison, he found
    out that the war was over.
    In 1868, the Lopas family moved to Sherwood, WI, and bought
    120 acres of land in the town of Woodville, Calumet County. When
    they moved from Waukesha to Sherwood the lopas family had two
    horses, two cows, four pigs, plus geese and chickens. They were on the
    road for one week.
    Johann and his wife Johanna had two sons, John Jr. and William.
    John Jr. was my great, great, great grandfather. John Jr. and his wife
    Emilie's son, Walter Alvin Herman lopas, was my great, great
    grandfather. Walter and his wife Gertrude's son, lester Walter lopas,
    was my great grandfather. lester and his wife Bernice's son Kenneth
    Ronald lopas is my grandpa, who lives with my grandma, Donna Ann
    lopas, in Combined locks, WI today.
