  • Note: Lisa Stroess, 48, Little Chute, passed away with her husband by her side after a lingering illness Wednesday, March 30, 2011. She was born January 11, 1963, in Appleton daughter of Thomas and Rose (De Decker) Ahrens. Lisa married Kent A. Stroess February 9, 2005. Lisa owned and operated Down the Hill Tavern in Little Chute for several years. She enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting, traveling, darts and watching a good football game. Lisa loved all of her cats, Sassie, Sadie, Maddie and Meka. Lisa's true love was being with her family.

    Lisa is survived by her husband, Kent; parents, Thomas (Rose) Ahrens, Appleton; a daughter, Amber O'Connor and special friend, Brian, Combined Locks; stepson, Jesse Stroess, Minneapolis; brothers: Mike (Missie) Ahrens, Menasha; Brian (Missy) Ahrens, Appleton; T.J. (Faren) Ahrens, Cocoa, FL; mother-in-law, Berwyn Stroess, Appleton; brothers- and sisters-in-law: Bill (Vickie), Madison; Doug (Julie), Appleton; Dan (Barb), Seymour; Steve (Karen) Stroess, Appleton; Cindi (Alan) Cousineau, Appleton; Jill (Lonnie) Garrison, Appleton; Amber's father, Todd (Kay) Behling, Little Chute; "special daughter," Heather Schulz, Combined Locks; godchild, Lexi Ahrens; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

    Lisa was preceded in death by her son, Nicholas "Nick" Behling; grandparents; a father-in-law, Linden Stroess.

    Memorial services will be held at 5 p.m. Tuesday, April 5, 2011, at St. Therese Catholic Church, 213 E. Wisconsin Ave., Appleton, with Fr. William Hoffman officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday at the church from 3 p.m. until the time of the mass. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.

    Lisa's family wishes to thank Froedtert Hospital Drs., nurses and staff along with Kindred Hospital, Milwaukee, for their loving care and compassion.

    Nicholas Behling, 24, Little Chute, died unexpectedly Wednesday, April 22, 2009. He was born September 18, 1984, in Appleton, son of Todd and Lisa (Ahrens) Behling. He was employed at Down the Hill in Little Chute. His passion was hunting and fishing, which he enjoyed. He also liked dart shooting and was a NASCAR fan. He loved his cats: Ziggy, Harley and Roxy. Everyone who knew him loved him, he had no enemies.

    Nicholas is survived by his very special friend, Heather Schulz, Little Chute; parents: Lisa (Kent) Stroess, Little Chute and Todd Behling and his special friend Kay Huemphner, Little Chute; sister, Amber (Andrew) O'Connor, Little Chute and step brother, Jesse Stroess, Minneapolis; grandparents: Tom (Rose) Ahrens, Appleton; and Raymond Behling, Combined Locks; aunts and uncles: Mike (Missie) Ahrens, Menasha; Brian (Missy) Ahrens, Appleton; T.J. (Faren) Ahrens, Cocoa, Florida; Jeff (Gail) Behling, New Holstein; and Doug Behling, Little Chute; cousins. Also survived by Heather's parents, Robert (Lori) Schulz, West Bend and her brother, Brad Schulz; special friends: Nick Vandeburgt and Zeb Beyer and numerous other special friends.

    Nick was preceded in death by his grandmother, Stena Behling.

    Memorial services will be held at 6 p.m. Monday, April 27, 2009, at the Verkuilen Funeral Home. Interment will be in St. Paul Cemetery, Combined Locks. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 p.m. Monday until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.

  • Note: Kent Alan Stroess, 59, Little Chute, died at home due to complications from multiple illnesses Monday, October 16, 2017. Kent was born June 25, 1958, at St. Elizabeth in Appleton, son of the late Linden and Berwyn (Litzkow) Stroess. Kent graduated from Appleton East High School in 1976 and enlisted in the US Army. After serving his country overseas, Kent was honorably discharged and moved back to Appleton. Kent worked for over 25 years at Fox River Paper in Appleton before retiring due to medical issues.

    Kent was always well liked for his unique and abundant sense of humor. Kent could get a smile and a laugh out of most in even the worst situations. He enjoyed travelling, golfing, fishing, listening to his music collection, playing with his cats (Maddie and Sadie) and collecting sports cards and comic books. Kent also enjoyed supporting the Packers, Brewers, and Badgers.

    Kent is survived by his son, Jesse Stroess; step-daughter, Amber Behling; brothers and sisters, Bill (Vicki) Stroess, Doug (Julie) Stroess, Dan (Barb) Stroess, Cindi (Alan) Cousineau, Steve (Karen) Stroess, Jill (Lonnie) Garrison; nieces and nephews, Robert (Kelly) Stroess, Nick (Crystal) Stroess, April (Paul) Stroess, Sara Stroess, Alex Cousineau, Anja Cousineau, Joshua Garrison, Heather Stroess, Heidi Stroess, August (Kayla) Stroess, Sullivan (Kenda) Stroess and many friends.

    Kent was preceded in death by his wife, Lisa Stroess; step-son, Nicholas Behling; parents Linden and Berwyn Stroess.

    A Memorial Service for Kent will be held on Monday, October 23, 2017 at 11:00 am at Wichmann-Fargo Funeral Home, 537 N. Superior St., Appleton. Family and friends may gather Sunday, October 22, 2017 at the funeral home from 4:00 to 7:00 pm and Monday, October 23, 2017 from 10:00 am until time of Service.

    In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established.

    Van Straten, OSF, Sister Loyola
    Sister Loyola (Dorothy) Van Straten, 84, was born Feb. 24, 1925, in West De Pere, to Emma (Hazaert) and Edward Van Straten. Sister Loyola entered the Community of the Sisters of St. Francis of the Holy Cross, Bay Settlement in September 1941. She was received into the Order in August 1942 and celebrated her diamond jubilee in 2002.
    Sister Loyola spent most of her years as a homemaker for the Sisters in Casco, Osman, De Pere, Peshtigo, Milwaukee, Darboy, St. Francis Convent and the Chapel at Robinsonville. Later she did pastoral work in Combined Locks and the McCormick Home in Green Bay. She retired to the Motherhouse in 1994 where she was involved in community service.
    Sister Loyola is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Lawrence and Rita Van Straten, De Pere; and her sister, Verna Mandli, Oconomowoc; nieces, nephews, and by the members and Associates of her Community, the Sisters of St. Francis of the Holy Cross.
    She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Eunice and brother, Donald.
    Sister Loyola was a kind, gentle soul with a mischievous streak. She will be remembered for her love of Community, wonderful smile, the best lemon pie made from scratch and a loyal Packer fan.
    Friends may call at St. Francis Convent, 3110 Nicolet Drive, Green Bay on Friday, April 24 at 4 p.m. for the reception of the body and visitation. The Vigil Service will be at 7 p.m. on Friday evening. Visitation for Sr. Loyola will continue on Saturday morning at Holy Cross Church, 3009 Bay Settlement Road, from 9:30 a.m. until the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 with Reverend Richard Mauthe officiating. Burial will be in the convent cemetery.
    The Sisters of St. Francis and the family of Sister Loyola wish to express their gratitude to the nursing staff at St. Francis Convent for their loving care and support.
