  • Note: Wilbert H. "Bill" Verhagen, 87, longtime Ashwaubenon resident, died peacefully Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2011, at his home. He was born Jan. 7, 1924, in De Pere, to the late George and Alma (Aldrich) Verhagen. Will served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II. On Nov. 24, 1945, he married Lila Rausch at Old St. Joseph Catholic Church in De Pere. Will had been employed at Fort Howard Paper Company for 34 years. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved hunting and fishing. His main love was spending time with his grandchildren and his great-grandchildren.

    Survivors include his wife, Lila; four children and their spouses, Glenn and Mary Verhagen, Gerald and Karen Verhagen, James Verhagen, Mary and Mike Hockers; his grandchildren, Laura (Chris) Conklin, Mike (Angie) Verhagen, Michelle (Scott) Swain, Amy Verhagen, Joseph Verhagen (special friend, Brooke); Luke (Kacie) Hockers, Tami Hockers; nine great-grandchildren, Matt (fiancee, Bri), Melissa and Jessica Conklin, Wilbert and Abigail Verhagen, Noah and Korynn Swain, Morgan Verhagen, Jaylynn Verhagen; a sister, Carol (Bob) Gerke; a brother, Kenneth (Sandy) Verhagen; and four sisters-in-law, Sandy Zittlow, Evelyn Nelson, La Verne Verhagen, Virginia Verhagen.

    Will was preceded in death by two brothers, George and Merlin Verhagen; two sisters, Eunice Dederich, Darlene VanderLeest; and two brothers-in-law, Dewey Nelson, Carl Zittlow.

    Friends may call at Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church, 2270 S. Oneida St., from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church with the Rev. John H. Harper officiating. Burial will be in Nicolet Memorial Gardens.   • Note: Leatrice June (Arps) Bowman, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 4. 2014. Leatrice was born on June 27, 1927 in Kaukauna to Henry J. and Olga K. Arps. She was united in marriage at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church on October 25, 1947 with John E. Bowman. John predeceased her on April 7, 2013.

    After their marriage Lea and John spent their married life in Kaukauna. She worked for AAL for 31 years retiring in 1987. She was a long time member of the Ladies Aid of Trinity Lutheran Church in Kaukauna. They enjoyed traveling the country visiting the locales where their children resided.

    Leatrice is survived by her children Dennis (Kathleen) Bowman, Susan (David) Mory; grandchildren Scott (Renee) Bowman, Paul Bowman, Samantha (Travis) Baer, Sydney Mory; great-grandchildren Aurora, Emma and Ethan Baer. She is further survived by her sister-in-law Bernice Arps, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

    Leatrice was preceded in death by her parents and her parents-in-law Charles and Anna Bowman, brothers Gilbert, Melvin (Anita), and Kenneth Arps; sisters, Mildred (Francis) Schmidt, Wilma Rausch, Beulah (Lyle) Jansch, Ruth (Woodrow and John) Alger Wier. By her husband's siblings, Swen (Clara) and Milton Bowman, Linda (Carl) Olson, Bertha (Everett) Udell and Evelyn Schroeder.

    The Christian funeral for Leatrice will be held on Wednesday, May 7th at 11 AM at TRINITY EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH on the corner of Tobacnoir and Grignon Streets in Kaukauna with the Rev. Timothy Wilkens officiating. Visitation will be at 9AM on Wednesday morning at the church and until the time of service. Leatrice will be entombed at Highland Memorial Park next to her beloved John.     Leatrice's family would like to thank the Revs. Timothy Wilkens and Kurtis Mau for their spiritual care over these few months. We would also like to thank her caregivers, Amy, and the staffs of Parkside Care Center and the Appleton Retirement Community.   • Note: John Edward Grant Bowman, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus the Christ on Sunday, April 7, 2013. John was born on September 20, 1919 in Mountain, Wisconsin, to Charles A. and Anna E. Olson Bowman. He married Leatrice June Arps on October 25, 1947 at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Kaukauna by the Rev. Paul Th. Oehlert.

    John was a painter at Kimberly Clark/REPAP/MidTech for 42 years before retiring in 1981. For over 65 years, he was very involved with his church, whether it be as Church President, Elder, Trustee or choir member. He enjoyed his family tremendously. He bowled until he was 89 years old and enjoyed every minute of it. John and Lea traveled all over to visit the "kids" wherever they may be. They enjoyed seeing the country and the world. John took good care of the home he built and the yard. They enjoyed their "UP North" place on Chute Pond near Mountain. Dad always had a welcoming fire burning.

    John is survived by his dear wife of 65 years: Leatrice; his children: Dennis (Kathleen) Bowman and Susan (David) Mory. He is further survived by his grandchildren: Scott (Renee) Bowman, Samantha (Travis) Baer, Paul Bowman and Sydney Mory; and his great-grandchildren Aurora, Emma and Ethan Baer. He is further survived by his sister-in-law: Bernice Arps, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

    John was preceded in death by his parents, his parents-in-law Henry and Olga Arps; his sisters: Malinda (Carl) Olson, Bertha (Everett) Udell and Evelyn Schroeder; his brothers: Swen (Clara) Bowman and Milton Bowman. He was also predeceased by Lea's siblings: Mildred (Francis) Schmidt, Wilma Rausch, Beulah (Lyle) Jansch, Gilbert Arps, Melvin (Anita) Arps, Kenneth Arps, Ruth (Woodrow, John) Alger Wier and nieces and nephews.

    The Christian Funeral for John will be on Thursday, April 11th at 11 AM at TRINITY EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH the corner of Grignon and Tobacnoir Streets in Kaukauna with the Revs. Karl Schultz and Timothy Wilkens officiating. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM and continue until the time of service. John will be entombed at Highland Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be designated for the Trinity Organ Fund.
