    Amherst, Wis., June 8 -- Myron H. Phillips passed away at his home on Mill street early Friday morning after a long illness. He had been a great sufferer from asthma nearly all his life and the past few winters had been more severe on him so that he had been confined to his home nearly all winter. He, however had been ill in bed but three weeks. About a week prior to his death he suffered a stroke from which he rallied somewhat, but later he was stricken with another and never regained conciousness from the last. Mr. Phillips was well known in our community where he had lived the past 35 years and engaged as stock buyer.
    Myron H. Phillips was born January 6, 1857, in Jefferson county, N. Y. On October 26, 1881 he was married to Mrs. Martha Bond of Libertyville, Ill. In the fall of 1885 Mr. Phillips came to Amherst and engaged in stock purchasing. His family, consisting of his wife and two sons, arrived here in January, 1886. This has since continued to be their home. They were the parents of 14 children, four of whom died in infancy. George was a victim of influenza in 1918, Nellie, a high school pupil, was drowned at a school picnic several years ago. The surviving besides the widow are Cyrus of Portland, Ore. Frank of Manitowoc, Glen of Des Moines, Ia., Gale of Neenah, Edward of Waukesha, Mrs. R. K. Sannes of Amherst, Mrs. C. W. Connell of Chippewa Falls, Mrs. Ed Larson of Stevens Point and Marlon at home. Two brothers and two sisters also survive. David Phillips of Milaeen, Minn., Clark Phillips of Sutherland, Iowa, Mrs. Frank Dymond of Libertyville, Ill., and Mrs. Jared Blodgett of Columus, Neb.
    Funeral services were held from the M. E. church Monday afternoon by Rev. C. E. Coon, with interment in Greenwood cemetery. Those presend to attend the funeral from out of town included all the children except the oldest son, Cyrus Phillips of Portland, Ore., who was unable to be here, and also included Mrs. Frank Dymond of Libertyville, and Clark Phillips of Sutherland, Ia, sister and brother of Mr. Phillips and Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Bond of Libertyville, Ill, the former a brother of MRs. M.H. Phillips. The family have the sympathy of the community in their great loss.

    Funeral services for Hal Squier, son of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Squier, route 2, Menasha, who drowned in Lake Winnebago about a block and a half east of Waverly Beach Thursday morning, will be at 11 o'clock Saturday morning a the Laemmrich Funeral home Menasha, with the Rev. Norman S. Ream, pastor of First Methodist church, Neenah, in charge. Burial will be in Restlaven
    cemetery, Neenah. Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 o'clock tonight. He was born March 20, 1957, in LaCrosse. His family moved to the Waverly Beach area about three months go. Besides his parents, he is survived by four brothers, Wally, Paul, Terry and Scott; one sister, Bonnie, all and grandparents, at home; Mr. and Mrs. James Squier, La Crosse, and Mrs. Mattie Melbostad, Spring Grove. Hal was found lying face down in shallow water in front of the Squier home by his mother. The child was playing alone near the water while she worked in the yard. She moved to the back of the house for a short while before missing her son.
    The boy was taken to St. Elizabeth Hostpital, where he lived a short time. Calumet Coroner Dr. William Langmack ruled the death was caused by drowning.
    Neither Dr. Lagmack nor Calumet Sheriff C. J. Kosmosky investigated the tragedy at the scene.

  • Note: Scott J. Squier, of Kaukauna, age 65, fought a twelve year battle with cancer. God saw he was tired and took him home on Sunday, September 17, 2017. Scott was born in La Crosse, Wisconsin on March 6, 1952, the son of Daniel G. and Jean (Connell) Squier. Following high school, he served in the Marine Corps. In his younger years, Scott loved to fish and hunt. He also enjoyed watching sports. Scott often kept to himself but found great camaraderie and friendship at Plan B. He went there often to drink coffee, play cards and have spirited discussions about last night's game.

    Scott is survived by his mother and stepfather: Jean and Henry Hendricks of Freedom; brothers: Wallie (Laverne) and Terry (Sandy) Squier; sisters: Bonnie Brink, Julie (Gary) Fields, Valerie (significant other Mike) Squier and Stacy (David) Boucher; sister-in-law: Kristine E. Squier; and nieces and nephews: Jenny(significant other Janie), Amy (Tom), Shelly, Matthew, Tammy (Doug), Rick (Colleen), Paul (Allison), Haley, Daniel (Stephanie), Brittney, Courtney, Nicole (significant other Casey), Jeremy (Kacie), Samantha, Melinda (Paul), Katrina and Luke. He is further survived by many great nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

    Scott was preceded in by death his father, Daniel; siblings: Paul, Hal and Cheryl Squier; and nephew, Bill Squier.
