  • Note: Florence (Faunie) Marie Van Sistine, 75, Allouez, died of cancer at home on Tuesday morning, May 25, 2004, in the company of her loving family. The daughter of the late Edward and Elizabeth (Hermsen) Scray was born March 2, 1929, in the Town of Rockland. She was a graduate of St. Joseph Academy and lived in the area all of her life.

    On July 1, 1950, she married Donald N. Van Sistine at St. Mary Catholic Church in De Pere. Faunie loved decorating the numerous homes in which her family resided and decorated with a wonderful talent and flair. She enjoyed entertaining and hosting great dinners with her family and friends, who meant everything to her. Faunie loved the time she got to spend babysitting her grandchildren.

    She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and also, business partner in the Van Sistine Hardware Store in De Pere. She was very proud of her Hallmark Card Shop in the store. Mrs. Van Sistine was president of the Christian Mothers Society at St. Mary Parish in De Pere and was a volunteer with the American Cancer Society, supporting breast cancer patients.

    Survivors include her husband, Don; and their children and grandchildren, Chris (Terry) Hasselbacher and their three children, Lee Anne, Lauren and Kevin, Sue (Gene) Simons and their children, Matthew, Keith and Katie, Lisa (Pete) Anderson and their four children, Justin DeMars, Alyssa DeMars, Eric Anderson and Lisa (Josh) Bero and their children, Noah and Madelyn, Patty (Keith) Christenson and their children, Grace and Sam. Faunie is further survived by her sisters, Martha (Bill) Geenan, Rosemary McMonagle and Loretta (Jim) Rock; two brothers, Edgar (Barb) Scray and Herbert (Mary Jane) Scray; and many nieces and nephews.

    She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Peter; three brothers, Norbert, Joseph and George; and one sister, Katherine.

    Friends may call at RYAN FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY, 305 N. Tenth St., De Pere, from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 27, 2004. Parish prayer service will be held at 5 p.m. Visitation will continue after 10 a.m. Friday at St. Matthews Catholic Church, Allouez, until time of service. Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at the church with the Rev. Larry Seidl officiating. Inurnment in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

  • Note: Herbert "Herbie" F. Scray, 69, Howard, died Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2004, at an area hospital after a sudden illness surrounded by his family. Herbie was born Dec. 12, 1934, in De Pere, the son of the late Edward and Elizabeth (Hermsen) Scray.

    On Oct. 22, 1960, he was united in marriage to the former Mary Jane Vanden Bush at Holy Martyrs Catholic Church. Herbie owned and operated Scray Overhead Doors. He enjoyed working, helping others with projects and spending time at his Hilbert Lake cottage which he built.

    Herbie was a fun loving person and especially enjoyed time with his grandchildren and buddies. He also received a great deal of pleasure helping his children build their homes.

    Herbie is survived by his wife; children, Monica (Paul) Briquelet, Michele (David) Farber and Greg (Mary) Scray, all of Howard, Paul (Lori) Scray, Stiles, and Kristin (fiance, John) Scray, Green Bay; eight grandchildren, Landon, Alyssa, Austin, Lindsay, Morgan, Haley, Connor and Brianna; one brother, Edgar (Barb) Scray, Green Bay; three sisters, Martha (Bill) Geenen, Sommerset, Rosemary McMonagle, De Pere, and Loretta (Jim) Rock, Kansas; sister-in-law, Beverly Scray; brothers-in-law, Harry Macco and Don Van Sistine; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

    He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Jeff; brothers, Norbert, Joseph and George; sisters, Catherine and Faunie.

    Friends may call at RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 305 N. 10th St., De Pere, Friday, Oct. 8, 2004, from 4 to 8 p.m. A parish prayer service will be held at 7 pm. Visitation will continue Saturday Oct. 9, from 9:30 a.m. until time of service.   • Note: Harold H. "Mike" Matzke, 88, Green Bay, loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, died peacefully, Wednesday morning, July 14, 2010, with his loving family at his side. He was born on Oct. 27, 1921, in Green Bay to the late Earl and Anna (Scray) Matzke. On June 29, 1946, he married the former Patricia Van Beek at St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church in Green Bay. Mike served in the U.S. Army during World War II stationed in the Aleutian Islands and was a member of the VFW Post 9677. Harold retired from the Brown County Highway Department after 25 years of service.

    He was a member of St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church. Mike enjoyed cross country road trips with his wife, relatives and friends. He had a special relationship with each of his brothers and sisters and found great joy in sharing his many life stories with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mike also enjoyed his circle of card playing friends.

    He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Patricia, Green Bay; children, Wayne (Mary) Matzke, Fond du Lac, and their children, Gregory (Dawn), Mary Jo (Joe) Wiemiller and Eric (Elizabeth); Randall (Pamela) Matzke, Bellevue, and their children, Alaina (fiance, Mike), Tom and Kelly; Sharon (Gary) Rentmeester, Bellevue, and their children, Scott (Amanda), Laura (Adam) Ropson, Michael (fiance, Rachel) and Mathew; brother, Russell Matzke, De Pere; brothers-in-law, Sylvester Jankowski, Donald Lipp, Robert Brosig and Donald Gazella; sister-in-law, Dorothy Matzke; brother-in-law, Arnold (Barbara) Van Beek, Clarence Nooyen; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Van Bellinger and Geraldine Gauthier; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Merle, Donald, Robert and Jerome; sisters, Erna Brosig, Betty Corrigan, Shirley Jankowski, Eunice Gazella and Mary Lou Randall.

He married Joan Gauthier on May 9, 1953 at St. Mary's Church in De Pere. Russ served in the U.S. Army from January of 1951 to February of 1953.

    He was employed at Olson Transportation Company from 1953 to 1968 and at C.W. Transport from 1968 to 1988 and was a member of the Teamster's Union for 35 years. He was a member of the De Pere Area Men's Club and the American Legion Post 11, Green Bay.

    Survivors include his children: Craig (Cindy) Matzke, Lora Henkel, Karen (Bill) FitzGerald, Alan (Toni) Matzke; grandchildren: Nick (Adrian) Matzke and Kristin (Alan) Damato, Anne (Michael) Hedrick, Kelcie and Russell Henkel, Jack, Brian and Michael FitzGerald, Jason, Matthew, Shelby and Lukas Matzke; great-grandchildren: Austin and Rylee Hedrick, brothers and sisters-in-law: Patricia Matzke, Dorothy Matzke, Gene (Mary) Gauthier, Ruth Utschig, Rita (John) Drewieske, Sylvester Jankowski and Donald Gazella.

    Russell was preceded in death by his wife, Joan, parents, brothers: Merle (Dorothy) Matzke, Mike Matzke, Donald Matzke, Robert (Leona) Matzke, Jerry (Janice) Matzke; sisters: Erna (Bob) Brosig, Elizabeth (Chet) Corrigan, Shirley Jankowski, Eunice Gazella and Mary Lou Randall.

    Matzke, Jerome P. "Jerry"


    Jerome P. "Jerry" Matzke, 79, Green Bay resident, passed away Saturday, Dec. 19, 2009, at Angel's Touch Assisted Living. He was born Nov. 7, 1930, in De Pere, to the late Earl and Annie (Scray) Matzke. On Sept. 28, 1957, he married Janice Saharsky. She preceded him in death on Oct. 16, 2006. Jerry was a quiet, humble man of great strength and reserve. He worked very hard for over 35 years for the Brown County Highway Commission, retiring in 1994. Following his retirement from Brown County he became part of the Proko-Wall family and enjoyed a number of years as their groundskeeper. He served his country in the U.S. Army until 1961 and was a member of VFW Winiecke Post #9677. Jerry loved to cook, listen to Johnny Cash music and watch Packer games. Most of all he had a deep love and commitment to his family. He loved family gatherings, especially those special lunches with his brothers and his buddy Bob ("Bro"). He was a very dedicated member of St. Mary of the Angels Parish for over 50 years.

    He was the proud father to: Christopher (Lori) Matzke, Huntington Beach, CA; Carla (Don) Crabb, Aliso Viejo, CA; Dawn (Michael) Smith, Delafield, WI; four granddaughters: Abigail Matzke, Danielle Crabb, Morgan and Sara Smith; two brothers: Harold (Pat) Matzke, Green Bay; Russell Matzke, De Pere; special brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws: Robert "Bro" Brosig, Robert (Rosie) Saharsky, Richard (Audrey) Albright, Sylver Jankowski, Dorothy "Dot" Matzke and Donald Gazella and many special nieces and nephews.

    He was preceded in death by three brothers: Merle, Donald, Robert and five sisters: Betty Corrigan, Shirley Jankowski, Eunice Gazella, Erna Brosig and Mary Lou Randall.

    Friends may call at St. Mary of the Angels Catholic Church, 645 S. Irwin Ave., after 9:00 am Saturday until time of mass. Mass of Christian Burial 11:00 am Saturday at the church with Fr. Tom Wojciechowski O.F.M. officiating. Military honors to follow at church with burial at SS Cyril and Methodius Cemetery, Eaton. Proko-Wall Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
