  • Death: Donald Manier died on July 20, 2008, at age 92, in Appleton, Outagamie Co, Wisconsin.
  • Note: Donald E. "Don" Manier, age 92, of Appleton, passed away Sunday, July 20, 2008, at Appleton Medical Center. Don was born September 7, 1915, in Appleton, the son of the late Frank H. and Anna (Van Erem) Manier. He was a graduate of Appleton High School and attended vocational school. He served in the United States Navy during Worl War II, and was a very patriotic man. Don was united in marriage to Julia "Julie" DeVoe on July 23, 1938, at St. Stherese Catholic Church. They were blessed with 68 years together. She preceded him in death on April 23, 2006.
    Don was employed for many years with the Wisconsin/Michigan Power Company (Wisconsin Electric) where he was supervisor in their maintenance and construction departments. Don also managed the VFW club in Appleton for 36 years alongside Julie, who was the kitchen manager. The Maniers operated a "hobby farm" in Seymour. Don was a busy man and excelled in all he did. He was a life member of the VFW Post and served as past commander. He was a member of St. Thomas More parish. Don enjoyed life. He had a great sense of humor, loved visiting friends and was a great conversationalist. Don and Julie enjoyed goinf up North to their cottage near Mountain.
    Survivors include his sister, laVerne Lingnofski, menasha his close nieces and nephews, Barbara Schneider, DePere (Don's goddaughter) Sister Lois Ann Gosch, Manitowoc Pat Gosch, Whitefish Bay Jim (Karen) Manier, Port Townsend, WA John (Joan) Manier, Phoenix, AZ as well as other nieces and nephews.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, three brothers; Alex J Manier, Melvin "Red" Manier, Frank C. Manier, and his sister, Bernice M. (Manier) Gosch.
    The funeral mass for Don will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 24, 2008 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 1810 N. Mc Donald St., with Fr. Gerald Falk as celebrant. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Thursday at the church until the time of the mass. Don will be laid to rest with Julie at Appleton Highland Memorial park. Memorials in Don's name may be sent to the VFW National Home for Children, 3573 So. Waverly Rd, Eaton Springs, MI 48827.

  • Note: Bernice M. Gosch, Manitowoc, formerly of Appleton, 82, died on Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2001 at St. Mary's Home in Manitowoc.
    Beernice was born on Sept. 11, 1918 in Appleton, the daughter of the late Frank and Anna (VanEmrem) Manier. Bernice married John V. Gosch on May 5, 1941 and enjoyed 42 years together, before he precede her in death on Oct. 2, 1983.
    Bernice was a member of St. Pius X Parish. She was also a member of the Catholic Daughters and the VFW Auxiliary.
    Bernice is survived by three daughters, Barbara (Robert) Schneider, Green Bay, Sr. Lois Ann Gosch, OSF, Manitowoc, and Pat Gosch, Whitefish Bay, Wis.; one brother, Don (Julie) Manier, Appleton, and one sister, La Verne Lingnofski, Menasha.
    She was preceded in death by her husband, John, and three brothers, Alex, Frank and Melvin "Red".
    The funeral liturgy will be Friday, Aug. 31, 2001 at St. Pius X Catholic Church (500 West Marquette Street, Appleton) at 11:30 a.m. with Fr. Donald Zuleger officiating. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Thursday, Aug. 30, 2001 from 4p.m. to 8 p.m. with a vigil service at 7:30 p.m. Visitation on Friday will directly at the church from 10:30 a.m. until the time of liturgy. Entombment will be at Highland Memorial Park.
    A memorial fund is being established.
    A special thanks to Sr. Lois Ann for all her loving care of Mom.

    Lingnofski, Laverne A.
    Laverne Ann Lingnofski, Menasha, age 83, passed away on Sunday, August 10, 2008, at Oakridge Gardens, Menasha. She was born on September 22, 1924, in Appleton, WI, daughter of the late Frank and Anna (Van Erem) Manier. Laverne was united in marriage to Virgil Lingnofski on October 12, 1946; he preceded her in death on October 30, 1995. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Menasha.
    Laverne will be missed by her loving children: Gary (Lynn) Lingnofski, Appleton, and Jim (Diane) Lingnofski, Menasha; two grandchildren: Robert (Richelle) Lingnofski and Michelle Lingnofski; a great-granddaughter, Ava Lingnofski; a sister-in-law, Lorraine Lingnofski; and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. She was preceded by: four brothers, a sister, four sisters-in-law, and two brothers-in-law.
    A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, August 13, 2008, at St. Mary Catholic Church, 528 Second Street, Menasha, with Fr. Larry Canavera officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. Interment will take place in St. Mary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established.
    The family would to extend a special thank you to the staff at Oakridge Gardens for their kindness and care for Laverne.
