Hugh Everett Burt

  • Note: DE PERE - Hugh Burt, 54, town of Lawrence farmer, died Thursday night in a Green Bay hosptial. He had collapsed earlier in the day while at work in his woodlot. Death was caused by a cerebral hemorrhage.

    A lifelong resident of Lawrence, Mr. Burt was born July 20, 1899 and was a member of St. John Lutheran church at Wrightstown. Survivors are his mother, Mrs. Lavina Burt, Wrightstown; his wife, the former Emily Zastrow; a daughter, Mrs. John Davis, West De Pere; three sons, Leslie, Greenleaf, (Living) of West De Pere and (Living), at home; 10 grandchildren; a brother, Melvin, Kimberly; a stepbrother, Roy, Menasha and three sisters, Mrs. Jacob Dashner of Little Rapids, Mrs. Gladys Vandevoort, Wrightstwon and Mrs. Robert French, West De Pere.

    The body is at the Ryan funeral home where friends may call after 1 o'clock Satuday afternoon. The body will be removed to St. John Lutheran church, Wrightstown, at 11 o'clock Monday morning. Funeral services will be conducted there at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon by the Rev. Henry Pussehl, pastor, and burial will be in South Lawrence cemetery.

  • Note: Mrs. Jacob (Ethel) Dashner, 86, formerly of 402 Allard St., De Pere, died Friday evening in Bellin Hospice. The former Ethel Burt was born in the Town of Lawrence January 27, 1897 to the late Harry and Lavina (Hamilton) Burt. Nov. 1, 1920, she married Jacob Dashner in Menominee, Mich. They lived at Little Rapids, moving to De Pere in 1960. Mr. Dashner preceded her in death Aug. 19, 1960. Ethel was a member of the VFW Auxiliary Post 2113, the American Legion and the First Congregational Church.

    Survivors are two sons and daughters-in-law: Perry and Arlene Dashner, Route 3, De Pere, Harvey and Kathleen Dashner of De Pere; one sister, Mrs. Gladys Vande Voort of Wrightstown; six grandchildren and one great-grandson. She was preceded in death by one sister, two brothers and one half-brother.

    Friends may call at Ryan Funeral Home, 305 N. 10th St., De Pere, after 3 p.m. Sunday and after 9 a.m. Monday at the First Congregational Church, De Pere.

    Funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at the church, Rev. Robert Koller officiating. Burial in South Lawrence Cemetery. A memorial fund to Bellin Hospice has been established.

Jacob Dashner

  • Note: Jacob Dashner, 63, 320 Allard St., died Friday monring in a Green Bay hosptial of complications resulting from an accident at his summer cottage.

    Mr. Dashner fractured both legs Aug. 7 in a mishap at Roberts Lake near Wabeno. Confined to a wheel chair for 36 years, Mr. Dashner had designed an electric power lift platform which would carry him in his wheel chair up and down a 25 foot slope at this boat dock to enable him to go fishing. Returning from fishing Aug. 7, he wheeled his chair onto the platform that would carry him up the incline. But as the platform motor started Mr. Dashner was off balance and the chair pitched forward and down the slope. He struck the concrete ramp of the pier and both legs were severly fractured.

    Mr. Dashner was born May 24, 1897, in the town of Lawrence where he lived until moving to De Pere this spring. He served with Battery E, 121st Field Artillery during World War I and was a member of Heesaker-Brown post, American Legion. Survivors are his wife; two sons, Harvey and Perry of West De Pere.

    Berg, James K.
    James K. Berg, age 53, Clintonville, passed away August 18, 2008, at the University of Michigan Hospital. He was born July 15, 1955, to Kathy (Hilgenberg) Berg and the late John Berg. On September 22, 2001, he was united in marriage to Leslie Hansen. He attended Seymour High School and enlisted in the U.S. Army for eight years. He worked at International Paper Mill in Kaukauna for many years until his retirement. He was a member of Calvary Apostolic Church in Clintonville.
    Jim was a people person and remained in contact with most everyone he had ever met. He loved to hunt and fish, when he lived by his motto: "bag'em and tag'em". Jim also loved golfing, cooking and loved spending time with his little man, Preston.
    Survivors include his wife, Leslie; his five children: Melissa (Scott) Krug, Appleton; James Kerwin III; Matthew, Cathleen, Preston Aaron "Pood" Berg, all of Clintonville; two grandchildren: Sydney and Alexandria; his mother, Kathy (friend Dean); brothers: John (Diane), Seymour; Leland (Cristal), Port Washington; Larry, Seymour; Jeff (Jill), Seymour; Todd (Carol), Freedom; sisters: Jeannie (R.G.) Stathas, Sarasota, FL; Julia Coenen, Appleton; Layna ( Mike) Boland, Harper Ferry, IA. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and very close friends.
    He was preceded in death by his father, John; grandson, Ashton; brother-in-law, Cliff Coenen.
    Visitation will be held at Muehl-Boettcher Funeral Home, Seymour, on Friday, August 22, 2008, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Visitation will continue at Calvary Apostolic Church, Clintonville, on Saturday, August 23, 2008, from 9:30 a.m. until funeral services at 11 a.m. with Pastor John Soto officiating.
