  • Note: John Glenn Nolan, Kaukauna, age 90, died Tuesday April 7, 2015 at St. Elizabeth Hospital from complications following surgery. He was born on April 22, 1924 in De Pere to the late Michael and Helen (Remmel) Nolan. Following his graduation from Wrightstown High School, John served in the Army from 1944-1946 during World War II. He served in the Philippines in the 31st Infantry and was a member of the Kaukauna V.F.W. Post 3319. John married Rita Dashner at St. Joseph Parish in Appleton on October 25, 1947. He retired from Thilmany Papers after working there 42 years.

    John was a talented craftsman. He enjoyed woodworking and could repair many things. John built his house and loved to use his talents to help his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He also enjoyed playing cards, fishing and hunting. Together, John and his son Don, took a trip to Wyoming to hunt Mule Deer.

    John is survived by his wife of 67 years, Rita; children: Linda (Jim Nelson) Nolan, Brooklyn Park, MN; Donald (Linda Plutchak) Nolan, Madison; Diane Bloy, Kimberly; Steve Nolan, Madison; and Mary Ann (Roger) Fiebelkorn, Manawa; grandchildren: Aaron (Stephanie) Bloy and Melanie (Andy Lee) Bloy Lee, Emily and Amanda Nolan-Plutchak, and Amelia (Ryan) Casper; great grandchildren: Elizabeth and Olivia Bloy, Madelline and Alaina Lee, Declan and Ryland Nolan-Plutchak; and sister-in-law: Agnes Nolan. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

    In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his grandson, Nick Nolan-Plutchak; and siblings: Lorraine Morsette, Robert Nolan and Margie (Pat) Randerson.

    Visitation will be held Monday April 13, 2015 at HOLY CROSS PARISH (309 Desnoyer St. Kaukauna) beginning at 10:00 a.m. until time of Mass at 11:00 a.m. The Rev. Thomas Pomeroy will officiate. Military rites conducted by the Kaukauna V.F.W. Post 3319 will immediately follow. Committal Holy Cross Cemetery. A memorial will be established in his name. He was born in Darboy on July 7, 1919 to the late Peter and Mary (Johann) Dietzen. Charles married Gladys Lopas on October 9, 1936 and she preceded him in death. He was employed as a truck driver for CW Transport. He later became an instructor at Fox Valley Technical College in their truck driving program and trained truck drivers for U.S. Oil. Charles helped organize the Inland Lakes Rehabilitation District in Townsend, WI. He was a member of Chapter 73 of the CCC. He enjoyed working in his garage building bird houses and anything else made of wood. Fishing and hunting at their cottage in Townsend occupied most of his "retired" spare time.

    He is survived by his sons: Ronald (Becky), Robert (Mary) and Ted (Norma); 17 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren; a sister, Elizabeth and a brother, Eugene.

    Charles was preceded in death by his wife; sons: Kenneth and James; sisters: Rosella (Earl) Pogrant and Mary Ann (Richard) Endter.

    Funeral services for Charles will be held at 1:00 PM Friday, May 18, 2012 at the funeral home with Deacon Rick Simon officiating. Interment will be in Highland Memorial Park, Appleton. Friends may visit the family from 11:00 AM until the time of service on Friday.

    Charles's family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Appleton Retirement Community and especially Community Care for their compassionate care and concern.

  • Note: Edward C. Gorchals died on Tuesday, February 2, 2016. The son of Charles & Elizabeth (Thermansen) Gorchals was born on October 1, 1928. Edward graduated from Kaukauna High School in 1946. He enlisted in the Army, trained in the field artillery at Ft.Bragg N.C., served in Germany where he played one season of football with the Army. Edward worked in the construction field as a concrete foreman for E&R Construction, 4-X Corporation, and retired from L.W.Meyer as inside sales & service manager. As a boat racer he achieved national champion & Hall of Fame status in his Class with the APBA, and participated in the 100 mile Winnebagoland marathon. Edward lived on "His Lake" Poygan most of his life, fishing, hunting, trapping, building fish shanties, carving sturgeon decoys, making caviar and smoking fish. He was a charter member of Lake Poygan Sportsman Club, Ducks Unlimited, Sturgeon for Tomorrow and Payne's Point Hook & Spear Club.

    He will be missed by his wife Nancy; his children Patrick (Nancy) , Weyauwega; Polly (Peter) Anderson, Winneconne; three grandsons, Daniel Gorchals, Alexander and Pierce Anderson, two granddaughters, Ellen and Anna Van Maastricht. He is also survived by a sister Mildred Regel, Florida; in-laws, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.

    A memorial gathering will be held on Friday, February 5, 2016 at 1:00 PM at Lewin Funeral Home, Fremont. Pastor Stephen Pope will officiate. Military rites will follow the service. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday, from 11:00 AM until the time of service.

    A memorial fund has been established.

    Ed's family would like to extend a very special Thank you to the staff at Cherry Meadows Hospice, as well as the ThedaCare at Home Hospice for all of the wonderful care that was provided to him during his illness.
