    Treiber, Julia R.


    Julia Ruth Treiber, died Sunday, April 18, 2010, at Appleton Medical Center. She was born May 23rd, 1913, in Appleton, the daughter of John & Anna (Shilling) Paltzer one of eight siblings growing up on the Paltzer family farm on North Meade Street. Julia graduated from Appleton High School and married George F. Treiber on May 28th, 1936. In her nearly 97 years Julia was known for her delightful and contagious laugh, amazing determination, tolerance and wisdom but most of all for her kind and loving nature. Her extremely strong faith in the Lord and the Holy Spirit sustained her throughout her life. Always putting others before herself; she was very much beloved by family and her circle of friends. Intelligence and quick wit stayed with her till the end allowing her to remain an avid crossword puzzler and card player. Julia was a lifetime member of St Thomas More and the Catholic Daughters.

    Julia is survived by her brother Eugene (Marce) Paltzer and her remaining children; Jack (Marge) Treiber, Judy (Don) Ellis, Chuck Treiber, Tom (Anya) Treiber, Joe Treiber, Bill (Sherry) Treiber and daughter-in-law Caryn Treiber. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

    She was preceded in death by her husband George, son Richard, daughter-in-law Theresa and six of her siblings; Margaret Schuh, George Paltzer, Marie Busch, Helen May, Richard Paltzer and Delores Busch.

    A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, April 21, 2010, at 11 a.m. at ST. THOMAS MORE CATHOLIC CHURCH (1810 N. McDonald St., Appleton) with Fr. Gerald Falk officiating. Friends may call on Wednesday, April 21, 2010, from 9 a.m. until the time of services at the Church. Entombment will be in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Appleton Community Foundation Endowment Fund.

    May, Jerome E. "Jerry"


    Jerry May, 85, Appleton, passed away peacefully at his home Friday, May 22, 2009. He was born July 7, 1923, in Appleton, son of the late Edward and Julia (Mayland) May. He was a lifelong resident of Appleton and graduated from Appleton High School in 1941. After high school, he joined the Navy and served during World War II. In 1948, he started his first service station. In 1953, he moved his business, "Jerry's Service," to the corner of Meade St. and Glendale Ave. across from AMC. He was at that location until he retired in 1989. He married Helen Paltzer on Feb. 14, 1976, sharing 26 years together before her death on April 24, 2002.

    Jerry enjoyed retirement and was known as the "Apple Creek Country Gentleman." He drove his '57 Yellow Mercury in the Appleton Flag Day Parade for the Altrusa Club for many years. He was affiliated with Emmanuel United Methodist Church and St. Thomas More Catholic Church.

    He is survived by his special friend, Doris Carlson, and her Great Big Beautiful Family; Peter Berken, whom he thought of as a son; a nephew, Greg (Barbra) Sylvester, and their children, Christian and Julia; a niece, Rochelle (Shelly) Sylvester, and her children, Emily, Peter and Ellen; cousins, Wayne (Deloris) Glasnap; Marvin Rohm and June Rohm; a sister-in-law, Julia Treiber; brother-in-law, Eugene (Marcella) Paltzer; nieces, nephews, other relatives, many good friends, neighbors, former employees, customers and business acquaintances.

    He was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law, Gordon and Buda Sylvester; and nephew, Bob Sylvester.

    The Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 27, 2009, at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 1810 N. McDonald St., with the Rev. Gerald Falk and the Rev. Mark Geisthardt officiating. Burial will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call at the Brettschneider-Trettin-Lederer Funeral Chapel on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. and at the church on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of service.

    A memorial fund has been established for the Heart Institute of Appleton Medical Center.

    Jerry, your beaming smile, unforgettable laugh and endless generosity will never be forgotten. You have been our mentor, friend, confidant, companion and father figure, and we are so grateful. All who have crossed paths with you know you were a class act. You were beautiful on the inside and the outside and you touched all our lives with love.

    My Jerry, my Sweetheart, We had such great times, but more than that we had a closeness I will treasure for the rest of my life. I loved being "Your Dorsey."
