    Bergman Crowe, Joan Mae

Joan Mae Bergman Crowe, 72, De Pere, passed away Saturday, July 11, 2009, at Rennes Health Care Center, De Pere. Born April 10, 1937, in Little Chute, Wis., to the late Henry and Mathilda (Bongers) Bergman. Joan was the youngest of seven children. She graduated from St. Joseph Academy in 1955. In 1971, she married Harvey Crowe, and he preceded her in death in 2001.

Joan worked all her life, beginning at Kreske's Dime store, spending the remainder mainly in communication. Her love of radio led her to become a traffic manager in television for many years.

Joan loved all sports, and was involved in many, especially golf. The Packers were a favorite since childhood, when a "horn on the play" was the known penalty, and radios were on in every household. She enjoyed two holes-in-one in her golfing years in Illinois and Florida. Not only sports, but was her love of music. She learned to play a button accordion with no training and sang many solos, beginning in grade school, high school, and beyond.

Through the years, Joan, with her "southpaw" acquired the ability to paint, which included a 6' by 10' mural on the wall. Also the same hand became a published writer.

What Joan considered to be a blessing was her extensive traveling, covering almost every state, six cruises, Alaska, Hawaii, and Europe. She also loved cards, camping, good jokes, laughs and made friends easily. She was loved by many and will be missed.

Joan is survived by two sisters, Mabel DeGrave, and Evelyn (Bert) VanderWegen; one brother, Jim (Nancy) Bergman; sister-in-law, Grace Bergman; five stepchildren: Marsha Jensen, Pryor, Okla., Linda Lawrence, Rockford, Ill., Debra Glidden, Rockford, Ill., Karen Baxter, Beloit, Wis., and Steve Crowe, Rockford, Ill.; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her brothers, Norbert Bergman, Charles Bergman; sister, Beatrice Sigl; brothers-in-law: Norbert Sigl, Donald Bloy and Roland DeGrave.

Family and friends may call Tuesday, July 14, 2009 from 9 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. at St. Anne's Episcopal Church, 347 Libal St., De Pere. Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated 11 a.m. Tuesday at church, with Fr. Seth Richmond officiating. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Kaukauna.
