Davis, Grace A. Grace A. Davis, age 92, joined her family in heaven on Saturday, December 1, 2007, following complications from a hip fracture and dementia. For the past three years, Grace was a member of the Brewster Village family. Born in Appleton on October 7, 1915, Grace was the fourth of five children and the only daughter of the late William and Jennie (Giesbers) Murphy. She graduated from Appleton High School and worked at Appleton Telephone Company until her marriage to Eugene (Toppy) Davis in 1938. Grace was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church.

Growing up with four brothers helped to mold Grace into a tomboy as a girl and into an athlete as a young adult. She was an excellent swimmer and diver in high school and also was a lifeguard at area pools. As an adult, Grace had two passions, duplicate bridge and golf and had the opportunity to participate in both activities regularly. She won numerous awards in duplicate bridge tournaments across the United States and was a Life Master. She had a dynamite swing that produced two holes-in-one on the golf course. Grace loved the fresh air and walked daily through her Alicia Park neighborhood in which she lived for over fifty years. Even at age 92, Grace could walk circles around the staff at Brewster Village. Grace met many new friends there and always greeted everyone with a warm smile and friendly hello. She will be missed by all who knew her.

Grace was preceded in death by her husband Eugene; her daughter Jeanne; four brothers and two sisters-in-law: Orville, Raymond, Wilbur (Mary) and Lloyd (Minnie) Murphy; and her niece Colleen Rivera.

Survivors include Goddaughter and niece, Pat (Riyad) Alsabah, niece and guardian, Kippy (Joseph) Witmer; sister-in-law Carrie Murphy; nephews, Jim Murphy, Tom (Judy) Murphy, Dan (Michelle) Murphy, Michael (Patricia) Murphy and numerous grand nieces and grand nephews along with nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews on her husband's side of the family. Grace is also survived by her very special friend and neighbor, Lisa Borchardt and family, and by Mabel Olson who was her daily companion and friend over the last three years at Brewster Village.

A memorial service to celebrate the life of Grace A. Davis will be held at Brewster Village in the Chapel on Thursday, December 6, 2007, at 2:45 p.m. with the Rev. John McFadden presiding. Visitation will begin at 2:30 p.m. Vanilla ice cream, Grace's favorite food, will be served following the service.

A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Bernard's at 5 p.m. on Thursday, December 6, 2007, with Fr. Dennis Ryan, officiating. Memorial donations in honor of Grace can be addressed to the Brewster Village Endowment Fund.

A special, heartfelt thank-you goes out to the staff at Brewster Village, especially those in the Manor whose constant care and attention to Grace is greatly appreciated.
