  • Note: Glenn David Nelson, age 80, passed away on Tuesday, March 8, 2011, at Cherry Meadows in Appleton. He was born on July 21, 1930, son of the late Arthur and Madge (Havener) Nelson, in Neenah. At the age of 16, Glenn's parents bought a farm in Hart, MI. Glenn worked the fruit orchards and canning factories in summer and logging camp in winter (before chainsaws). In 1949, at the age of 19, Glenn moved back to Neenah and started working at Bergstrom Paper Co. He retired from Bergstrom/P.H. Glatfelter in 1993 after 44 years of service. He met the love of his life, Cora Parker, at her Uncle's farm while squirrel hunting. They were united in marriage on November 9, 1951, recently celebrating a very happy 59 years with their family. Glenn proudly served in US Army, 3rd Division 8th Army Baker Battery, November 1951 to August 1953. Glenn earned the Korean Service medal with 2 bronze service stars and United Nations service medal.

    In his younger years, he enjoyed bowling, playing pool, card games, and waterskiing. His favorite sports were fishing (Fox River Spring run), deer hunting on his 80 acres up north with his wife Cora. Glenn was a very friendly, outgoing person who loved Readers Digest jokes and one liners. In his retirement, he enjoyed all puzzles, making wire puzzles, lawn ornaments, playing solitaire and hearts (always shooting the moon) on the new computer.

    Glenn will be missed by his loving wife, Cora; children: Cindy Anderson, Steve (Renee) Nelson, Julie (Kelly) Foate, Bruce Nelson (special friend Jimmer Jacobson); grandchildren: Mathew and Jessica Anderson, Bill and Brad Nelson, Eric and Chris Foate, Ashley, Brandon, and Tyler Seidl; a great-grandson, Brayden Nelson; one sister; Myrna Winkel; sister in law, Helen Mitchell; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

    He was also preceded in death by one sister, Lorinda Nelson; a brother-in-law, Gary Mitchell; father-in-law and mother-in-law: Wilmer and Clara Parker.

    Glenn- You were the light of my life, my best friend but most of all my beloved husband. I will miss you so much every single day of my life. -Cora

    Dad- We will love you always and forever. We will miss you more than can be imagined. Cindy, Steve, Julie & Bruce.

  • Note: Marian C. Mennen, (nee Egan), Kimberly, age 93, died peacefully on Thursday February 5, 2015 at Appleton Medical Center. She was born November 22, 1921 in Appleton, WI, daughter of the late David and Marie (Huss) Egan. On April 23, 1949 Marian married Giles Mennen at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Kaukauna. The couple lived in Kimberly their entire married lives and enjoyed 38 years of marriage together prior to his death in 1987. Marian was a member of Holy Spirit Parish at Holy Name of Jesus Church in Kimberly and the Kimberly Homemakers.

    She is survived by her children: Mary Jo (Tom) Albrecht, Shawano, Mark (Mikyung) Mennen, Menasha, Tom Mennen, Kaukauna and David (Christine) Mennen, Shakopee, MN; grandchildren: David and Joshua Mennen, Ethan, Carson and Ryan Mennen; brother, Cleon Egan, Kaukauna; numerous nieces, nephews and friends who were so kind to Marian.

    She was preceded in death by her husband, Giles; an infant son and daughter; and a sister-in-law, Betty Egan. She is further preceded in death by her husband's brother and 4 sisters.

    A Memorial Mass for Marian will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday. February 9, 2015 at HOLY SPIRIT PARISH at Holy Name of Jesus Church, 602 E. Kimberly Ave., Kimberly with Fr. Bob Kollath officiating. Friends may call directly at church on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services. Burial will take place in the parish cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established for the Kimberly YMCA or the Thompson Center.
