    Andrew K. Kangas, age 80, of Appleton, passed away on Saturday, January 31, 2015, at Kimberly Assisted Living. Lewy Body Dementia got the best of him. Bud was born in Appleton on June 4, 1934, to the late Andrew and Lynne (Pysto Anderson) Kangas. He graduated at Appleton High School with the class of 52. On February 19, 1955, Bud was united in marriage to Margaret "Marge" Quella at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Appleton. The couple has enjoyed 60 years together. Bud worked in the Western Electric Division of AT&T. After 38 years at AT&T, he worked part time at Northside Hardware in Appleton for 20 years.

    Bud was active with American Legion Post 38 Baseball. He was an Appleton West Terror Backer and also one of the founders of Senior Babe Ruth Baseball in Appleton as well as one of the founders of Pop Warner Football in Elk Grove Village, IL. He was a long time member at St. Joseph Catholic Church.

    Bud is survived by his wife Margaret "Marge", Appleton; a daughter, Bobbi (Tom) Emmers, Tennessee; two sons: Andy (Shari) Kangas, Green Bay and Joe (Karen) Kangas, Appleton; 7 grandchildren: Becky, Scott, Brett, Mitch, Amy, Mary, and Jack; 3 great grandchildren: Mason, Alexa, and Ace; a brother-in-law, Ray (Marilyn) Quella; and a sister-in-law, Elaine Quella. Bud is further survived by many nieces and nephews.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, son Mike, mother and father-in-law Agnes and Joe Quella, and 4 sisters: Betty, Bernice, Verna, and Helen.

    A Funeral Mass for Bud will be held at 10:30 am on Thursday, February 5, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 404 W. Lawrence St. Appleton, with Father James Leary OFM Cap officiating. Friends may visit from 4 to 6:30 pm on Wednesday at the Brettschneider-Trettin-Nickel Funeral Chapel, and directly at the church on Thursday from 9:30 am until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.

    The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Kimberly Assisted Living and to the friends at Northside Hardware for their kindness, care, and concern.

  • Note: William A. "Bill" Quella, of Menasha, age 86, passed away on November 11, 2013 (Veterans Day) at St. Elizabeth's Hospital with his family by his side. He was born March 10, 1927, son of the late Joseph and Agnes Quella.

    Bill married Ardys Johnson (also known as "Susie") on January 31, 1951 at Sacred Heart Church, Appleton. She preceded him in death on October 25, 1996. Bill served in the Korean War. The Fox Valley was home to him and he was a proud semi-truck driver all his working years, retiring in 1989.

    The cottage on Lake Winnebago was a special gathering place for family and friends before Mom and Dad were even married. A lot of wonderful memories were made there. Mom and Dad moved to "The Lake" in 1991. Next to his family, one of his biggest joys was spending time outdoors and in the woods, as his hobby was chopping firewood.

    The Catholic faith was very important to Bill, and he was a Charter Member of St. Gabriel's Parish, Neenah. Family was also very important and he is survived by his daughter Susan (Greg) Magalski, four sons: Peter, David (Diane), Tony, and Steve Quella; four grandchildren: Brad Magalski, Becky (Brian) Griep, Brian (fiancée' Sarah Casperson) and Mike Quella. He is further survived by a brother Ray (Marilyn) Quella and a sister Margaret (Bud) Kangas.

    He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, brothers: Tom, Kenny, Rich, and his sister Joan Reitzner.

    The Mass of Resurrection will be held at 11:30 AM on Thursday, November 14, 2013, at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, 900 Geiger St., Neenah, with Fr. Robert Lexa officiating. The visitation will be held at Neenah's Westgor Funeral Home from 5:00 - 8:00 PM on Wednesday, with a prayer service held at 7:30 PM. Visitation will also be held at the church on Thursday from 10:30 AM until the hour of Mass. Full military honors will follow the service performed by the US Army and the Neenah Menasha Veterans Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers a memorial is being established in his name.

    Bill was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. We will always keep him close in our hearts and in our prayers. Many thanks to family and friends for their support. The family would also like to thank the medical staff at St. E's for their wonderful care and compassion.

  • Note: Raymond J. Quella, of Appleton, passed away Friday evening, March 13, 2015, at the age of 86. Ray was born in Appleton on September 4th, 1928, to the late Joseph and Agnes (Hoffman) Quella. He worked at Valley Ready Mix (now MCC) from June 1953 to September 1993. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army and spent 14 months in Korea. On May 19th, he was united in marriage to Marilyn Merrill. The couple has enjoyed 63 years together.

    Ray is survived by his wife, Marilyn, Appleton; son Bruce (friend Teresa) Quella, Larsen; grandson Ben (Jenny) Quella, Appleton; great-grandson Jacob Quella, Appleton; sister, Margie Kangas, Appleton; and sister-in-law, Elaine Quella, Appleton. He is further survived by many nieces and nephews.

    He was preceded in death by siblings Tom (Eunice) Quella, Ken (Millie) Quella, Richard Quella, Bill (Susie) Quella, Joan (Arnold) Reitzner, and Andrew "Bud" Kangas.

    A memorial service will take place at 10:30 am on Friday, March 20, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 414 W. Lawrence St. Appleton, with Father James Leary OFM CAP officiating, followed immediately by full military honors performed by Appleton Legion Post #38. Friends may visit from 4 to 7 pm on Thursday at the Brettschneider-Trettin-Nickel Funeral Chapel, and directly at the church on Friday from 9 am until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.

  • Note: Robert P. Beach, Hollandtown, age 65, died unexpectedly on Thursday, September 20, 2012 at Cherry Meadows where he was being treated. He was born in Appleton on June 25, 1947, the first born of Thomas and Joan (Verbockel) Beach. Bob was a graduate of Kaukauna High School and had been employed by Thilmany Paper Company in Kaukauna until his retirement. He proudly served his country in the Air Force during the Vietnam War.

    He is survived by his mother, Joan Beach, Kaukauna, his 5 children: Tina, Eric, Adam, Angela, and Saul; 9 grandchildren: Britney, Jasmine, Synamin, Cyanne, Jade, Charles, Bryan, Destiny, and Gabriel. The oldest of 9 brothers and 3 sisters, he is survived by his 6 brothers: Samuel, Bruce (fiancée Katherine), Mark (Judy), Joseph (Kathy), Andrew (Lori), and Patrick; 2 sisters: Susan (Ron) Kirchner and Elizabeth (Scott) Schutte; his children's mother, Barbara (Tom) Dorn, numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

    Preceding him in death were his father, Thomas Beach; a son, Chad; 2 brothers: Daniel and Bryan; a sister, Louise; and a sister-in-law, Kristin Beach.

    Funeral Services for Bob will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 23, 2012 at BOETTCHER FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 2401 Fieldcrest Dr., Kaukauna with Deacon Don Newhouse officiating. Friends may call from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service. Burial will take place in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
