  • Note: Philip Joseph Miller, age 82, passed away on Sat. Aug. 14, 2004 at Cherry Meadows Hospice in Appleton. He was born on March 19, 1922 on the family farm in the Town of Maple Grove, son of the late Kosmas and Caroline (Pritzl) Miller. He graduated from Brillion High School in 1941. On Sept. 25, 1956 he married LaVerne Fogeltanz at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Manitowoc. She preceded him in death on July 20, 1985. They farmed on the Miller Homestead until 1968 when they moved to Brillion. Philip worked at Keller Structures until his retirement. He was very active in 4-H as a member and later as a leader. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Brillion.


    Philip is survived by two brothers and sisters-in-law, Kosmas (Helen) Miller of Janesville; and Carl (Doris) Miller of Brillion; four sisters and brothers-in-law; Sister Cosmas Miller of Holy Family Convent in Manitowoc,; Marian (Robert) Hanagan of Appleton; Gertrude Sadowski of Manitowoc ; and Catherine (Clayton) Baeten of Kaukauna; many nieces and nephews; his brothers-in-law, William Schuh of Manitowoc; and Ernie Holschbach of Manitowoc; a sister-in-law, Agnes Miller of Whitelaw. Philip is further survived by his loving friend of 16 years; Mary Kleuskens of De Pere and her children, Don and Judy Vanevenhoven; Dan and Kathy Kleuskens, Mark and Diane Baumgart, Wayne and Bonnie Van Handel, Bill and Ruth Miller, Keith and Cindy Kohlbeck, Dave and Cindy Kleuskens, John and Deb Kleuskens, and Jim and Shelly Kleuskens.


    Philip was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; an infant sister; his brothers, Lawrence and his wife Anna, Norbert and his wife Gertrude, Vincent Miller; his sisters, Ottilia and her husband Edward Schuh, Caroline and her husband Raymond Lang, Marcella and her husband Alex Fischer, Josephine Schuh; and a brother-in-law, Simon Sadowski; his wife’s parents, William and Viola Fogeltanz; and his wife’s sister, Elaine Holschbach.


    Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m on Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2004 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Brillion with Father Tom Long officiating. Entombment will follow at Knollwood Mausoleum. Friends may call at the Wieting Funeral Home in Brillion from 4 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 16, 2004 and then at the church on Tuesday from 9 a.m. until the time of service. There will be a prayer service at the funeral home at 7:30 p.m. on Monday evening.


    The family would like to thank Mary for her loving companionship with Philip, the people at St. Paul’s Villa in Kaukauna where Philip lived for two months and also the people at Cherry Meadows. All of these people are God’s Angels in our world. Thank you. Thank you.

  • Note: Kosmas A. Miller, age 89, of 1231 N. Lexington Dr., died Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2007, at Mercy Hospital. He was born in Brillion, WI, on April 21, 1918, the son of Kosmas and Caroline (Pritzl) Miller and was a graduate of Brillion High School. Kosmas was also a 1941 graduate of the University of Wisconsin Agricultural Short Course. He married Helen M. Berner on June 5, 1943, in Janesville. He became the dairy herdsman at the Rock County Farm in 1941, and was employed there until he became a self-employed dairy farmer until his retirement in 1982. Kosmas helped form the Rock County Dairy Herd Improvement Co-op in 1947. Being yearly elected as their secretary/ treasurer until 1982 and because of his retirement in from dairy farming he was forced to retire. He was then hired as an employee to work as their financial secretary part-time so he could enjoy golfing and bowling.


    Survivors include his wife, Helen; a son, Victor (Bonnie) Miller of Janesville; 2 daughters, Helen (Charles) Hanauska of Milton and Mary Ellen (Dan) Beck of Vonore, TN; 3 grandchildren: Vicki (Dave) Schultz of Neenah, Lauri (Trent) Brown of Rigby, ID, and Derek Hanauska of Geneseo, IL; 3 great grandchildren: Meredith and Evan Schultz, and Codi Rose Brown; 3 sisters: Sister Kosmas of Slinger, Marian (Bob) Hanagan of Appleton, and Gertrude Sadowski of Manitowoc. He was preceded in death by his parents; 5 sisters: Ottilia (Edward) Schuh, Caroline (Raymond) Lange, Marcella (Alex) Fischer, Josephine (William) Schuh, and Catherine (Clayton) Baton; and 5 brothers: Lawrence (Ann) Miller, Vincent (Agnes) Miller, Philip Miller, Norbert (Gertrude) Miller and Carl (Doris) Miller.


    A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 30, 2007, at ST. MARY’S CATHOLIC CHURCH with Rev. Stephen J. Umhoefer officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until the hour of Mass. Memorials may be made to the Visiting Nurses Association, American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association. SCHNEIDER APFEL SCHNEIDER & SCHNEIDER FUNERAL HOME is assisting the family.

  • Note: Sister Cosmas Miller, age 88, a member of the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity, died Monday afternoon, September 15, 2014 at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center, Manitowoc.

    The former La Verne Miller was born on May 21, 1926 in Maple Grove, Wisconsin, daughter of the late Kosmas and Carolyn (Pritzl) Miller. She entered the Convent on August 16, 1941 and professed her vows on August 15, 1944. Sister Cosmas earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Holy Family College, Manitowoc and a Nursing certificate of Geriatric Aide. Sister Cosmas was an assistant/teacher at St. Therese, Appleton, St. Plymouth, Corpus Christi, Sawyer, St. Peter & Paul, Kiel, Holy Rosary, Kewaunee, St. Michael, Whitelaw, St. Joseph, Kellnersville, St. Agnes, Green Bay, St. John, Antigo, and St. Anthony, Oconto Falls. After 27 years of teaching, she became a nursing assistant/LPN and served at St. Rita Health Center, Ozanam Home, New Berlin, St. Paul Manor, Kaukauna, Wisconsin; and St. Joseph Home, West Point, Nebraska. Since 2011, she had been a resident of St. Rita Health Center. She is a member of the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity.

    Survivors include the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity; a niece: Sister Juden Lang OSF; two sisters: Marian Hanagan, Appleton, Gertrude Sadowski, Manitowoc; a sister-in-law: Doris Miller, Brillion and a brother-in-law: Clayton Baeten, Kaukauna. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents: Kosmas and Carolyn Miller; six brothers and sisters-in-law: Lawrence & Anna Miller, Norbert & Gertrude Miller, Kosmas & Helen Miller, Vincent Miller, Philip Miller, Carl Miller, and six sisters and brothers-in-law: Tillie Schuh, Mary Miller, Caroline & Ray Lang, Marcella & Alex Fischer, Josephine & William Schuh, Catherine Baeten, Robert Hanagan and Simon Sadowski.

    Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 19, 2014 at Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Finian Zaucha, OFM with burial at Holy Family Convent Cemetery, Manitowoc.

    The family will greet relatives and friends at Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday, September 18, 2014. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m. at Holy Family Convent Chapel.

    The Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.

    A special thank you to the Ambulance Personnel and the Emergency Room staff at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center, Manitowoc.
