    Schmitz, Paul W. Paul W. Schmitz, 82, De Pere, died Thursday, Oct. 4, 2007, at a local nursing home. Paul was born Jan. 23, 1925, in Kaukauna, to the late William and Ella Schmitz. He married Mary Ida Forbeck Aug. 16, 1950, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Freedom. Paul was a retired dairy farmer, carpenter and a former member of the NFO.

    Survivors include his wife, Mary; children, Jim and Karen Schmitz, John and Kathy Becker, Larry and Judy Schmitz, Denis and Nancy Martin and Ron Schmitz; grandchildren, Rhonda and Shawn Schmitz, Mike, Jenny and Katie Becker, Bryan and Melissa Martin, Shannon Martin and Joe Geurts, and Christine Schmitz; one great-grandchild, Kaylee Foellmi; brothers and sisters-in-law, Martin and Julia Behnke, Lenard and Shirley Zimmerman, Donald Schmitz family, Howard Schmitz family and Rosemary Schmitz; further survived by brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

    He was preceded in death by three brothers, Herb, Bill and Lawrence Schmitz and one sister, Ethel Huss.

    Friends may call at Nickel Funeral Home, Morrison, from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 8, 2007. Visitation continues after 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2007, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 3537 Shirley Road, Shirley, WI. Funeral service 11 a.m. at the church with the Rev. Jan Eggert officiating. Burial in Community Lutheran Cemetery, Town of Freedom.

    Mary I. Schmitz, 82, De Pere, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 3, 2009, with her family by her side. Mary was born September 16, 1926, in Outagamie County to the late Emil and Amanda Wendt Forbeck. She married Paul Schmitz August 16, 1950, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Freedom. Mary had a love for gardening, her children and grandchildren and great-granddaughter.

    Survivors include her children: Jim and Karen Schmitz, John and Kathy Becker, Larry and Judy Schmitz, Ron Schmitz and Denis and Nancy Martin; grandchildren: Rhonda and Shawn Schmitz, Mike, Jenny and Katie Becker, Bryan and Melissa Martin, Shannon and Joe Geurts and Christine Schmitz; a great-grandchild, Kaylee Foellmi; her sisters: Tootie Thyssen and Janet (Don) Bousley. Mary is further survived by sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Julie and Martin Behnke, Shirley and Leonard Zimmerman, Donald Schmitz, Howard Schmitz and Rose Mary Schmitz, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

    She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul in 2007, brother and sister-in-law, Ken and Jane Forbeck and a brother-in-law, Ray Thyssen.

    Friends may call from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, June 7, 2009, at Nickel Funeral Home, Morrison, and after 9:30 a.m. Monday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 3741 Shirley Road, Shirley, WI, until time of service. Funeral service 11 a.m. at the church with Rev. Jan Eggert officiating. Burial in Community Lutheran Cemetery, Town of Freedom.

    Julia was born on October 13th, 1929 in Kaukauna, Outagamie County to the late William and Ella (Marzofka) Schmitz. She attended Park School in Kaukauna. Julia was employed at Thilmany Paper Company of Kaukauna where she met her husband, Martin Behnke . On May 21, 1949, Martin married Julia at the former Immanuel Ev. Reformed Church in Kaukauna. Martin preceded her in death on August 11, 2011. After raising her family, she was employed at Mirro Aluminum Co until she retired at the age of 62. She was a former member of St. John St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church in Reedsville, and is currently a member of Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church. She was affiliated with Immanuel Ladies Aid during her retirement years.

    Julia, a dedicated wife and mother to her children, enjoyed gardening, crafts and traveling with her family and friends. She always was there to "pitch in" and assist family and friends with any project that they needed help with. She simply saw it as another way to spend time with those she cared about.

    Survivors include seven children: Leon (Donna) Behnke, Abrams; Suzanne (Donald) Knuth, Fond du Lac; Charles (Kathleen) Behnke, Manitowoc; Douglas (Sue) Behnke, Manitowoc; Jerry (Joan) Behnke, Manitowoc; Patricia (Patrick) McDivitt, Moline, IL; Randall (Terri) Behnke, Manitowoc; one daughter-in-law: Gail Behnke, Sheboygan; 17 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; one sister: Shirley Zimmermann, Bellevue, NE; four sisters-in-law: Rosemary Schmitz, Kaukauna; Kristy Schmitz, O'Fallon, IL; Sophia Jandrey, Manitowoc; Loretta Behnke, Brillion; one brother-in-law: Orville Stecker, Stockbridge; also nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Julie was preceded in death by her husband, one son: DeWayne Behnke; one grandson: Trevor Behnke; daughter-in-law: Patricia Behnke; seven brothers and three sisters.

    The family will greet relatives and friends on Tuesday, April 30, 2013 at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Manitowoc from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. The visitation will continue at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church on Wednesday from 10 am until the time of the funeral service at 11 am.   • Note: Martin R. Behnke, age 90, a Manitowoc resident, entered into eternal life with his wife Julia by his side on Thursday, August 11, 2011 at Shady Lane Nursing Care Center in Manitowoc.

    Martin was born on March 28, 1921 in the town of Rockland, Manitowoc County to the late Adolph and Ida Last Behnke. He attended William Penn School in Wells. On May 21, 1949, Martin married Julia Schmitz at the former Immanuel Ev. Reformed Church in Kaukauna. He began his working career at his father's farm and also other neighboring farms and threshing crews. Martin then became employed at Thilmany Paper Company of Kaukauna where he met his wife, Julia. He then worked at Invincible Metal Furniture Company until his retirement in 1985. Martin enjoyed reading - especially his Bible, helping on his son's farm, and above all cherished the time he was able to spend with his grandchildren and family. He was a former member of St. John St. James Ev. Lutheran Church in Reedsville, and is currently a member of Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church. He served on various committees at both churches.
