  • Note: Marvin M. DeVries, Jr. "Marv", age 59, of Appleton, passed away at St. Elizabeth Hospital on Sunday, May 30, 2016, following a brief illness. He was born on September 8, 1956, in Shell Lake, Wisconsin to Adell Bernal and the late Marvin DeVries.

    Marv proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army. He spent many years working at the Water Department for the City of Appleton. Later in life he loved spending time with friends "Up North" whether he was working or playing. Marv couldn't seem to get enough of the outdoors; he had a passion for fishing and hunting. Marv loved the game of baseball and saw his favorite team, the Boston Red Sox play at home, with his special friend, Carol.

    Survivors include his mother, Adell Bernal; sisters Debrorah (Jeff) Luko and LuAnn (Jim) Landers; brother Mike (Jodie) DeVries; stepmother, Donna DeVries, and children Jennifer and Kyle Davis; nephews, Seth Crain, Josh DeVries; nieces, Nicole (Brad) Hughes, Courtney (friend Andy) Zima, Stacy (Tylen) Rathsack, Jordan DeVries and their children. He is further survived by his special friend Carol Jahnke, and good friends Bob LuMaye and Connor. Marv was preceded in death his father, Marvin DeVries, Sr.; his grandparents, John (Pearl) DeVries and Max (Grace) Bos; and cousin John DeVries.

    In accordance with Marv's wishes, there will be no formal funeral service. A memorial has been established in Marv's name. Online condolences may be offered at www.wichmannfargo.com
