  • Note: Menasha Evening Breeze OBITUARY - JOHN LANDGRAF DEAD (Menasha Evening Breeze, March 22, 1901) Former Menasha Resident and City Official, John Landgraf of Kaukauna, but formerly of this city, died last night of pneumonia after an illness since Sunday. A peculiarly sad feature of his death is that his is the third death in his family in three months, his sisters, Mrs. Baldauf and Mrs. Heup, both dying suddenly last December. Mr. Landgraf was 36 years of age and was city clerk in this city during the years 1893-94. He is survived by a wife and three children, Raymond, Rena and Eulalia, his father, Jacob Landgraf, three sisters, Mrs. Louis Jourdain, Mrs. George Loescher and Miss Ella Landgraf, and one brother Valentine M. Landgraf of this city, also survive. Mr. Landgraf was well known in Menasha and the news of his death is a sad blow to his many friends. The funeral will ocur at Kaukauna Monday morning. The remains will be brought here for burial.

    Mrs. Katherine (Catherine) Landgraf died quite suddenly while sitting in her chair Thursday afternoon at 5:55 o'clock from anemia, after a gradual decline in health for the past year.

    She was born at Oshkosh August 6th, 1868, and came with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Mayer, to Kaukauna in 1885. She was married here to John Landgraf of Menasha who died twelve years ago and was buried there where they resided at that time.

    Mrs. Landgraf came with her children to this city a little later where she has since resided. Surviving are her children, Ray of Duluth, Minn., Rena and Eulalia at home, also her mother Mrs. J.L. Mayer, and her brothers Dr. E.A. Mayer, J.G. and A.T. Mayer of this city and C.F. Mayer of Hudson, Wisconsin.

    The funeral will be held at St. Mary's church Monday morning at nine o'clock, Father F.X. Steinbrecher officiating.

A rosary service will be held 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, with visitation following until 8 p.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel.
    Mr. Murphy died November 16, 2009. Born January 2, 1932, in New London, Wis., he was a son of the late Dr. James and Eulalia Landgraf Murphy. He graduated from UW-Oshkosh with a Bachelor of Science degree, and from Colorado State University with a Master’s Degree in Education. He touched the lives of many students starting as a teacher at Valders High School in 1964 and retiring as a guidance counselor in 1991. He enjoyed golf, gardening, watching the Green Bay Packers, spending time with his grandchildren, getting together with friends and family, and spending summers in Door County, Wisconsin.
    Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Marie Murphy of Irmo; sons and daughters-in-law, James and Phyllis Lewis Murphy, Rolla, Mo., Thomas and Janis Murphy, Irmo, John Murphy, Okauchee, Wis.; grandchildren, Erin Murphy, Maryville, Mo., Patrick Murphy, Rolla, Marn Lewis, Rolla, Caitlin Murphy, Irmo; sisters, Mary Irish, Shawano, Wis., Margaret Trainor, Pontiac, Ill.; brother and sister-in-law, Gerald and Caroline Murphy, Waupaca, Wis.; sister-in-law, Toni Nickel, Waupun, Wis.; brother-in-law, Jack Nickel, Waupun; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brothers Pat and Tom, and sister Betty.

  • Note: Elizabeth J. Stanton, age 53, of 211 Pearl Ave., Shawano, died in a Milwaukee hospital. The daughter of Eulalia (Landgraf) and the late Dr. James H. Murphy was born October 1933, at Clintonville.

    She married Kenneth Stanton October 29, 1953, in Milwaukee. He preceded her in death November 13, 1978. The couple had lived in the Milwaukee area for several years, moving to Shawano in 1964. Mrs. Stanton had worked in the Deli at T&C Supermarket for the past eight years.

    She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Christian Mothers.

    Survivors include three daughters, Kathy (Robert) Broder of Shawano, Mary (Scott) Schuelke of Milwaukee, and Sue (Charles) Tincher of Milwaukee; four sons, Mike (Patty) of Milwaukee, Tim (Brenda) of Platteville, Brian and Kevin at home; six grandchildren; her mother Mrs. J. H. Murphy of Shawano; two sisters, Mary (Harold) Irish of Rt. 1, Shawano, and Margaret (Robert) Trainor of Dwight, Ill.; and two brothers, John (Marie) Murphy of Valders, and Gerald (Carolyn) Murphy of Port Washington. She was also preceded in death by two brothers.

    Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 2, at 10:30 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church with the Rev. Gary J. Dantinne officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

    Friends may call at the Born-Swedberg Funeral Home, Shawano, from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and after 8 a.m. Wednesday. There will be a parish wake service at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

    Stanton was born September 15, 1924 in Michigan, the (adpoted) son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Carl Stanton. He was employed as a salesman with Macken's Pontiac in Green Bay and resided in Shawano for the past 14 years. He and the former Elizabeth (Betty) Murphy were married October 29, 1953 in Milwaukee.

    Survivors include his wife, three daughters, Mrs. Ralph (Kathleen) Erickson, Shawano; Susan and Mary at home; four sons, Michael, Tim, Brian, Kevin at home; and one grandchild. One brother preceded him in death.

    Services will be held Thursday, November 16, at noon at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Shawano. The Rev. William Spalding will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetary.

    Friends may call at Born Funeral Home Shawano from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and after 9 a.m. Thursday until time of service. A prayer service will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
