She was born on June 30, 1942, in Wisconsin, the daughter of the late Walter and Jessie Klapper. Sue enjoyed knitting, crocheting and painting ceramics. She was a avid Packer fan, loved to watch NASCAR racing, and she also enjoyed gambling and going to the casino. Sue is survived by her children, Rob (Joan), Brenda (Grizz) Griswold, Rick (Theresa), Randy (Dawn), and Becky (Gene) Goode; 13 grandchildren, Robert Jr. (Codi), Steve, Travis, Buzzy (Christine), Brandon, Amanda (Joe), Cody, Kyle, Michael, Alyssa, Bryan (Samantha), Amanda(Tom) and Jasmine (Matt); 17 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Mary (Robert) Bischler and Sandra (Rod) Taubel; two sisters-in-law, Barb Loughrin and Jeanette Below, her dear friends, Evvy VanLyssel, Edna Berndt and Donna Schuelke, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob a brother, Wally Klapper; a sister, Rhona (Dean) Clapps, five brothers-in-law, Don(Betty)Loughrin, Mike Loughrin, Tom Loughrin and Al Below; two sisters-in-law, Betty (Ray) Kraft, and Dorothy (Gordon) Handrich. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 13, 2016 at 7PM at the Lewin Funeral Home, Fremont. Pastor Alex Tychkin will officiate. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, from 4PM until the time of service. A memorial fund has been established for the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR.org.)

  • Note: Joyce A. Kersten, 72, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 4, 2010, at Park View Health Center in Oshkosh. She was born on Jan. 5, 1938, in Neenah, daughter of the late Francis and Martha (DeGroot) Kersten. Joyce worked at Work Adjustments in Neenah for many years.

    She was also an avid bowler and was involved with Special Olympics. Joyce liked to follow sports, especially the Roncalli Jets, when her twin brother, Jim, was the coach. She lived in group homes in Menasha and Oshkosh before moving to Park View in 2007.

    Joyce will be missed by her loving sisters and brothers, Betty Appleton, Bob (Reene) Kersten, Lyn (Hank) Canterbury, Jim (Marge) Kersten; nieces and nephews, Mark (Diane) Appleton, Keith (LeAnn) Appleton, Ted (Wendy) Kersten, Mary Beth (Dean) Williams, Tom (Virginia) Kersten, Susan (Tim) Vanden Langenberg, Todd (Kristi) Canterbury, Mike (Kris) Kersten, Kathy (Mark) Pabian, David (Shawna) Kersten, Paul (Hope) Kersten; 19 great-nieces and great-nephews; two aunts, Rosanne Pantuso and Pat DeGroot.

    Joyce was also preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Bob Appleton; and a niece, Patty Appleton.

    A Memorial Service will be held at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2010, at St. Mary Catholic Church, 528 Second Street, Menasha, with Fr. Paul Radetski officiating. A Memorial Gathering will be held from 5 p.m. until the hour of service at the church. The entombment of ashes will take place at the Shrine of Heaven Mausoleum, Neenah.

    In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed in Joyce's name to the Special Olympics, 800 W. 4th Avenue, Oshkosh, WI, 54901, or to the Alzheimer's Association, Greater Wisconsin Chapter, 2900 Curry Lane, Suite A, Green Bay, WI, 54311.

    Robert (Bob) Francis Kersten passed away unexpectedly Thursday, December 13, 2012, in Surprise, AZ., at the age of 78.     Bob was a graduate of St. Mary's High School, class of 1953. He entered the United States Army, where he was a barber and cook, two passions he embodied his entire life. The next years were filled with raising his family and establishing his own barber shop, Captain's Korner. During this time he was an active member of the Knights of Columbus, Rotary, St. Mary's booster club, and served on St. Mary's Board of Education. He eventually found his fifth career as a realtor with Coldwell Banker Bytof. Bob and Reene celebrated their golden wedding anniversary last summer with their entire family.

  • Note: Stanley Holcomb, age 86, passed away May 30, 2011, at home with his family by his side. He was born March 19, 1925, in Appleton to the late Rei and Loretta Holcomb. Stanley served in the Army Air Force from 1943 to 1945 as an engineer on a B-24 in Bungay, England. After returning home he worked for Chet Meiers from 1947 to 1961. From 1961 through 1987 he owned his own business with Bill Scanlon known as Holcomb and Scanlon Exclusive Builders. They built their houses as if they were their own.

    Stanley believed in peace, not war. He marched many times on College Avenue rallying for peace until his speech was taken from him by a series of strokes. He was an active member of the 446 Bomb Group Association, the American Museum in Britain and the 2nd Air Division Association. He enjoyed weekly poker with his buddies and getting two perfect hands while playing cribbage with the late Cy Young. He also enjoyed the many fishing trips to Canada and Minnesota.

    Survivors include his loving and caring wife of 22 years, Marjorie; his son, David Holcomb, FL; brother, Richard (Kathy) Holcomb and sister-in-law Dolores Yingling. He is also survived by four step-daughters: Connie (Richard) Gonnering, Kathy (Al) Zimmerman, TN, Amy (Joe) DeYoung and Sally (Tom) Heenan and a step-son, Dan (Jill) Kegel; 14 step-grandchildren: Julie (Troy) Schwehr, Matthew (Sarah) Gonnering, Sarah (Ryan) Voss, Rachel Gonnering (fiancee Nick Sonnentag), Adam (Natalie) Zimmerman, TN, Corey (Heather) Zimmerman, GA, Brandon (Mallory) Zimmerman, AL, Steven Kegel, Dana, Jenna and Maria DeYoung, JT, Kylie and Mitchell Heenan; five step-great grandchildren: Hunter Schwehr, Nicholas, Calvin and Audrey Gonnering and Ellah Zimmerman. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

    Stanley was preceded in death by his parents, brother Darrell and sister and brother-in-law, Edith and Bill VanDenzen.

    Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. TONIGHT, Wednesday, June 1, 2011, at Valley Funeral Home, 2211 N. Richmond St., Appleton. Inurnment will take place at the King Cemetery in King, WI with his family.In lieu of flowers, memorials are being established to the Affinity Hospice Staff and the Salvation Army.

    If anything is broken, Stan could fix it but he can't fix his wife's broken heart. We loved him in life and we will love him in death.
