    Baril, Frances M. Frances M. Baril, age 92, lifetime resident of Appleton, died Monday, September 18, 2006, at Franciscan Healthcare Center in Appleton. She was born on February 7, 1914, in Appleton to the late Ernest and Dora (Vandenberg) Blohm. Frances married Chester "Chet" Baril on November 16, 1950; he preceded her in death on July 2, 1990.

    She was a member of St. Therese Catholic Church and a member of Harvey Pierre Post #2778 VFW Auxiliary.

    Frances will be sadly missed by her sister, Mary Van Toll of Appleton; two nephews: John W. Van Toll of Appleton and Donald (Jackie) Van Toll of Combined Locks; three great nieces: Jodie (Keith) Huss and son Seth of Weyauwega, Kristine (Michael) Wallner of Combined Locks and Tracy (Daniel) Malsavage and daughter Alex of Kimberly; sisters-in-law: Gladys (Robert) School of Kaukauna and June Lemmron of Green Bay.

    Frances was preceded in death by her husband, Chester; brother, Norbert Blohm; and brother-in-law, John Van Toll.

    The funeral liturgy will be held at 4 p.m. on Thursday, September 21, 2006, at ST. THERESE CATHOLIC CHURCH, 213 E. Wisconsin Avenue, Appleton with Fr. William Hoffman officiating. Entombment will take place at Highland Memorial Park. Friends may call at the church on Thursday from 2 p.m. until the time of mass.

    Age 75, passed away unexpectedly July 2, 1990 at St. Elizabeth Hospital. Chet was born September 20, 1914 in Ingalls, Michigan, son of the late William and Besse [Burt] Baril. He served his country during World War II in the Red Arrow 32nd Division of the 127th infantry in the United States Army, and was a member of the Harvey Pierre Post 2778 of the American Legion. On November 16, 1950 he married Frances Blohm in Appleton, she survives. For nearly 30 years he was employed as a fireman at Consolidated Papers.

    Survivors besides his wife include four sisters, Dorothy [Elton] Krueger, De Pere; Gladys [Chester] School, Kaukauna; Geraldine [William] Conley, De Pere; June Lemmron, De Pere; two sisters in-law, Susan Oertel, De Pere; Dorothy Baril, Little Rapids.

    Chet was preceded in death by three brothers, Garret, Robert and Orville, and by three sisters, Betty, Mary and Pearl.

    Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 6, 1990 at 11 a.m. at St. Therese Catholic Church, Appleton with Father Daniel Gilsdorf officiating. Entombment will be in Highland Memorial Park. Friends may call Thursday from 4-8 p.m. at the Wichmann Funeral Home, Appleton, and again on Friday from 8 a.m. until the cortege leaves for the church. There will be a parish scripture service Thursday at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

  • Note: Mary Van Toll, age 97, died at Parkside Care Center in Little Chute on Saturday, March 16, 2013. She was born in Appleton on December 4, 1915, daughter of the late Ernest and Dora (Vandenberg) Blohm. Mary was one of three children, and was preceded in death by her sister Frances and her brother Norbert. She was a resident of Appleton until 1940 when she married John M. Van Toll in Detroit, Michigan on April 27. The couple returned to Appleton in 1956. Mary was a homemaker and enjoyed golfing, bowling, and playing cards.

    She is survived by two sons: John W. Van Toll of Appleton and Donald J. (Jackie) Van Toll of Combined Locks; three granddaughters: Jodie (Keith) Huss of Kaukauna, Kristine (Michael) Wallner of Honolulu, Hawaii, and Tracy (Dan) Malsavage of Kimberly; there are two great-grandchildren: Seth Huss and Alexandra Malsavage. There are also many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband John in 1996; and a grandson: James Van Toll.

    The funeral liturgy for Mary will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, March 21, 2013 at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 500 W. Marquette Street in Appleton, with Fr. Thomas J. Farrell officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Memorial Park. Friends may call at the church on Thursday morning from 10:00 AM until the time of the mass.

    The family would like to thank the staff at Parkside Care Center for the care they gave to Mary. They were always there for her. Also, a thank you to Heartland Hospice for the comfort they provided in her last days.
