    Mary Catherine Hansen died on Saturday, January 8, 2005 at the Don and Marilyn Anderson HospiceCare Center from lung cancer complicated by pulmonary fibrosis. Mrs. Hansen was born on February 27, 1936 in Appleton, Wisconsin, the only daughter of C.P. and Agnes Williamson. Mary attended St. Therese parochial school in Appleton and later graduated from St. Mary's Springs Academy in Fond du Lac where she was class officer, active in radio performances and dramatics, and co-editor of the student newspaper. She then attended Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois where she majored in English, television, and journalism. While at Northwestern, Mary joined the Delta Gamma society and remained an active member throughout her life, including service as a national officer of the alumni association. She was also a member of Northwestern's Zeta Phi Eta, a national professional fraternity in communication arts & science.

    Mary later completed her education at Marquette University in Milwaukee where she met her husband, John, a law student at Marquette. They were married a year later on November 9, 1957 and lived in Philadelphia, PA while John served as a junior Naval officer. Later Mary traveled extensively in Europe with two other Navy wives before moving to Madison with her husband in June 1960. Shortly thereafter, Mary gave birth to four children in five years and yet managed to be active in a variety of social and civic concerns while raising her family. Her activities included membership in the Madison Civics Club, service on the Channel 21 Board, Zeta Phi Eta, Edgewood Campus & High School PTAs, and theatre productions in Wisconsin. Mary was an avid reader throughout her life. She enjoyed everything from Russian literature to Shakespeare to detective novels and in later years read many historical and political books. Mary also appreciated fine music, primarily classical piano, symphonies and violin pieces. Her main athletic interest was golf which she started playing with her father as a child. Later, she grew to love downhill and cross-country skiiing. Mary also spent many wonderful summers, before and after her marriage, at her cottage in Waupaca. Mary co-founded Color and You, the first seasonal color and seasonal design company in Madison. She was also an enthusiastic gourmet cook and love to entertain.

    Mary is survived by her mother, Agnes Williamson, Appleton, WI her brother, James (Elizabeth) Williamson, Oshkosh, WI her husband John of Madison, WI her children: James P. (Deborah) Hansen, Omaha, NE Julie (Michael) Magers, Fond du Lac, WI Kathryn (Mark) Hutchins, Evansville, WI and Steven J. Hansen, Madison and her grandchildren: Paul, Christopher, and Jacqueline Hansen, and Michael and Carly Hutchins.

    She was preceded in death by her father, C.P. Williamson in 1977.

    Mary was a soft-spoken, intelligent, gracious lady with a quick wit and a great sense of humor. She was also a deeply religious person whose devout faith in God helped her endure serious health problems the last few years of her life.

    A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 602 Everglade Drive, Madison, WI on Wednesday, January 12, 2005 at 11 a.m. with Msgr. Terrence Connors presiding. There will be visitation at the church beginning one hour before the service at 10 a.m. Contributions may be made to the Don and Marilyn Anderson HospiceCare Center in Fitchburg or to St. Thomas Aquinas Parish.

    Mary died, as she had lived, with dignity and grace. Sleep with the angels, Mother.

James John Williamson

  • Death: He died on April 14, 2016, at age 86.
  • Note: James John Williamson, age 86, of Oshkosh, passed away on April 14, 2016. Jim was born in Menasha, WI on July 7, 1929 a son of the late Clement and Agnes (Wynboom) Williamson and he was also preceded in death by a sister, Mary C. Hansen. Jim attended Campion Jesuit High School, Fordham University and the Marquette University Law School.

    He is survived by and was the beloved husband of Elizabeth Lally Williamson and the loving father of James (Suzanne), Joseph (Cheryl), and Anne (Pat) McKenzie. He was adored by his 12 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 2 step-great-grandchildren. A true Renaissance Man, Jim was a brilliant attorney and lover of the English language, a captivating storyteller with his quick wit and humor, a talented musician, gifted athlete, culinary genius, and loving and faithful family man. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

    A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Jim on Tuesday, April 19, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in Most Blessed Sacrament Parish, St. Peter's Catholic Church, 435 High Avenue in Oshkosh. A time of visitation will be held at the church on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of floral expressions, a memorial fund will be established in his name. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Fiss & Bills-Poklasny Funeral Homes of Oshkosh.
