    Age 82, died 5 p.m. Thursday afternoon after a long illness. She was born May 31, 1893 in Ironwood, Michigan. She had been an Appleton resident until entering the convent in January 1920. Sister Irene had been a nun for 58 years, having celebrated her Golden Jubilee in 1970 at Mount Calvary. She had been a teacher and taught school throughout the Wisconsin and Illinois area. Survivors include three sisters: Mrs. Ervin (Hazel) Meidam, Clintonville; Mrs. Mina Hendricks, Appleton; and Mrs. Edwin (Ruth) Helms, Menasha; also many nieces and nephews. The funeral will be 9:15 a.m. Saturday at Notre Dame Health Care Center Chapel, Elm Grove. Burial will be in the convent cemetery, Elm Grove. A memorial fund has been established for the Notre Dame Health Care Center Hapel, 13105 Watertown Plank Road, Elm Grove, Wisconsin 53122.

  • Note: Barbara J. Stilp, 66 years, passed away August 24, 2017 at Cherry Meadows Hospice in Appleton, Wisconsin. She was born February 24, 1951 to her parents Roman F. and Sophie T. (Mitchell) Stilp in Appleton, Wisconsin at St. Elizabeth Hospital. Barb was a graduate of St. Mary High School, Menasha.

    She was a retiree of Kimberly-Clark Paper after 31 years of service where she was an office assistant. She had fond memories of the family owned Woodsedge Resort in Cable, Wisconsin during her teen years. Barbara was a lover of music who would share recordings as a gift to her family. She played guitar and especially loved The Beatles. Guests over age 16 at her home would be invited to play pool. Barb would share her beloved dog, Sophie, by visiting local nursing homes to brighten the day of those who could not have a pet. Reading was an important pass time to Barbara with Stephan King novels being a first choice.

    Barb will be missed by her brother-in-law James Sawicki, niece Laurie (Westgor) Kofnetka, nephews Joe (Cathy) Sawicki, Mike (Jenny) Sawicki, Dan (Missy) Sawicki, Bob (Jennifer) Sawicki, Andy (Jill) Sawicki, Kevin (Karla) Westgor, Steve Westgor, Chris Westgor, Greg (Mandy Maass) Westgor, 17 great- nieces and nephews, 1 great-great-nephew, 1 great-great-niece, special friends Linda, Judy and Mary, and her many friends at Buchanan Cottages where Barb lived with her dog, Sophie.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Diane Stilp, Marilyn Sawicki, and Geraldine (Ronald) Westgor.

    A Funeral Service for Barb will be held on Sunday, August 27, 2017 at 5:00 pm at Wichmann Funeral Home Laemmrich Chapel, 312 Milwaukee St., Menasha. Private inurnment St. Mary Cemetery. Family and friends may gather Sunday, August 27, 2017 at Laemmrich Funeral Home from 3:00 pm until time of Service.

    In lieu of flowers a memorial in Barb's name will be established.

    Special thank you to the staff at CVS 3rd floor at Thedacare Regional Medical Center- Appleton and Cherry Meadows hospice for their professional and loving care of Barb.

Marilyn Ann Stilp

  • Note: Sawicki, Marilyn Ann (Stilp), 80, passed away Monday morning, April 3, 2017 at 1:45AM. She was born January 15, 1937, in Menasha WI, to Roman F. and Sophie T. Stilp (nee Mitchell).

    She graduated from St. Mary's High School, Menasha, 1955, and excelled in English. She then began working at Marathon, a division of the American Can Company until her gratifying duties began as a Mom. Later she worked J.J. at Keller and Associates and even later as a secretary for ten years at St. Vincent de Paul Parish.

    She was a member of the Christian Women, served on the Oshkosh Pregnancy Lifeline, the St. Vincent de Paul Parish Council, a member of St Jude's Catholic Church (Oshkosh), and was a member of The Bells personal social club.

    She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, James Joseph Sawicki, whom she married on October 17, 1959 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Menasha WI, by Reverend Eugene Schmidt. She is also survived by her five sons and daughter-in-laws, son Joseph and Catherine (nee Rice) of Oshkosh and their children: James and Jarmilla (nee Kavecanská), Joseph Jr. and Micayla, her son Michael and Jennifer (nee Michels) of Fond du Lac and their children: Nicholas, Rachel and Margaret, her son Daniel and Melissa (nee Lasee) of Menasha and their child Jacob, her son Robert and Jennifer (nee Herlitzke) of Waunakee and their children: Ashley, Brandon, and Justin, her son Andrew and Jill (nee Nigl) of Stoughton and their children: Meadow and Silas. She is further survived by her sister Barbara Stilp, and in-laws Carole (Sawicki) and James Born, Paul Sawicki, and Thomas Sawicki and 7 nephews and 4 nieces.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, and two sisters Diane Stilp of Neenah, and Geraldine (Ronald) Westgor of Navarino.

    Marilyn was a devout Catholic, prayed continuously, and a staunch advocate for the pro-life movement.

    A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday April 10, at 11:00 AM in St Jude the Apostle Catholic Church (St Vincent worship site) with the Rev Matt Simonar officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Family and friends may call at Fiss & Bills-Poklasny Funeral Home (865 S Westhaven Oshkosh) on Sunday from 2:00-4:00 PM and also on Monday from 10:00 AM until the hour of services.

    We would also like to thank the Mercy Medical Center 2nd floor nurses and Hospice for the special care given to our Mom.

  • Note: Linda C. Hurley, 65, Appleton, passed away peacefully with her family at her side on Wed. April 27, 2016 at Appleton Medical Center following her second battle with cancer. She was born on Oct. 7, 1950 in Milwaukee to the late Joseph and Elaine (Gosz) Zeegers. Linda was united in marriage to Thomas O. Hurley on Sept. 2, 1972.

    Linda enjoyed biking was an avid reader and her and Tom enjoyed going to area Supper Clubs. She loved her family and time spent together especially with her sisters on Saturday mornings.

    She will be greatly missed by her husband, Tom Hurley, Appleton; children: Paul Hurley, Appleton and Shelley (Daniel) Van Hoof, Kaukauna; grandchildren: Brady Hurley, Evelyn and Calvin Van Hoof; siblings: Robert Zeegers, Appleton; Jean (Russ) Berggren, Hortonville; Christine (Leon) Schabow, Appleton; Kathy (Charles) Spoehr, Appleton; Jeff Zeegers, Appleton; Nancy (Cyril) Wimberger, Appleton; Paula Mueller, Appleton; Matthew (Ann) Zeegers, Appleton and Andrew (Shelley) Zeegers, Appleton; mother-in-law: Marcella Campshure; sister-in-law: Sandra Hurley; brother-in-law: Bill (Diane) Hurley; and numerous nieces and nephews.

    Linda was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Mark Zeegers.

    A Mass of Resurrection for Linda will be held at 12 PM Noon on Saturday, April 30, 2016 at St. Pius X Catholic Church with Rev. Thomas Farrell officiating. Friends may visit the family directly at church on Saturday from 10 AM until the time of Mass. Entombment will take place in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Appleton. Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society . A full obituary will appear in Friday's edition or visit the website.

  • Note: Mark D. Zeegers, Appleton, age 57, was unexpectedly called home by his Lord Jesus Christ early Monday March 7, 2011.He was born December 17, 1953 in Appleton, son of the late Joseph and Elaine (Gosz) Zeegers. He proudly served his country as member of the U.S. Marine Corps. Mark was clean and sober for 31 years. He worked at Miller Electric until 2009. Mark was an active and enthusiastic member of Calvary Chapel in Appleton. He loved reading his Bible and sharing God's Word.

    Mark was deeply loved by his children Joshua (special friend Mary Kay Elsner) of Menasha and Kristin (fiance Zachary Uvaas and son Talan) of Appleton, and was looking forward to the birth of his granddaughter, Zo Elizabeth, of expecting daughter Kristin. He was the beloved brother of Robert, Linda (Thomas) Hurley, Jean (Russell) Berggren, Christine (Leon) Schabow, Kathleen (Charles) Spoehr, Jeffrey, Nancy (Cyril) Wimberger, Paula (Todd) Mueller, Matthew (Ann) and Andrew (Shelley). Mark further survived by his friend, Mary Green; the mother of his children Tina Zeegers; his good friend Keith Smith; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

    Mark’s life will be celebrated on Friday March 11, 2011. Visitation will be held at CALVARY CHAPEL (2136 E. Newberry St. Appleton) beginning at 9 a.m. until time of funeral at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Dwight Douville will officiate. Military rites conducted by the William Verhagen American Legion Post 60 will immediately follow. In lieu of flowers, a memorial is being established.
