  • Note: Sister Mary Grace Peters, age 90, a Sister of St. Francis of the Holy Cross, died peacefully at Woodside Nursing Home on July 21, 2012. Sister Mary Grace (Margaret Ann) was born April 8, 1922 in W. De Pere to Urban and Clara (Kersten) Peters. She attended St. Boniface Grade School and graduated from St. Joseph Academy. Later she received a BA in English from St. Norbert College and an MA in History from Marquette University. Sr. Mary Grace entered the Sisters of St. Francis of the Holy Cross in 1940. She was professed in August 1943 and made final profession in August 1949. She celebrated her Diamond Jubilee in August 2001.

    Sister Mary Grace spent many years of dedicated service as a teacher and principal. She loved teaching and taught in schools in the Green Bay Diocese; St. John, Howard, St. Joseph, Marinette, St. Mary, Bear Creek, Holy Cross, Bay Settlement. She served her Community as Director of Postulants, Community Secretary, General Councilor, receptionist/secretary and Development Office Secretary (1992-2003). Sr. Mary Grace retired at the Motherhouse in 2003. Sister Mary Grace is remembered for her love of prayer, beautiful smile, reading, playing cards and visiting the sick.

    She is survived by her sister-in-law Bonnie Peters, nieces and nephews, and by the members and Associates of her Community, the Sisters of St. Francis of the Holy Cross.

    Sister Mary Grace was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers Norbert, Robert, and John and sisters-in-law Veramae and Helen Peters.

    Friends may call at St. Francis Convent, 3110 Nicolet Drive, Green Bay on Monday, July 23 at 4:00 p.m. for the reception of the body and visitation. The Vigil Service will be at 7:00 p.m. Visitation for Sr. Mary Grace will continue on Tuesday, July 24 at St. Bernard Church, 2040 Hillside Ln., Green Bay from 9:00 a.m. until the Mass of Christian burial at 10:30 a.m. with Monsignor James Dillenburg officiating. Burial will be in the Sisters of St. Francis Cemetery following the dinner.

    The Sisters of St. Francis and the family of Sister Mary Grace wish to express their gratitude to the nursing staff at St. Francis Convent and Woodside Nursing Home for their loving care and support.

    Robert J. Peters, 84, De Pere, passed away Sunday, Nov. 30, 2008, at his home.
    The son of the late Barney and Clara (Kersten) Peters was born June 21, 1924, in De Pere.
    He married the former Veramae Smits Aug. 31, 1946, at St Mary Catholic Church, De Pere.
    Bob was a foreman at Wm Hein Construction. He was a veteran of World War II 430 Antiaircraft Battalion serving in the European Theater. Bob was a member of De Pere VFW Post 2113 and also a member of St. Mary Catholic Community, De Pere. Bob enjoyed hunting and fishing and he greatly enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
    Survivors include his children, Mark (Rosie) Peters, Florence, Wis.; Marcia (Dan) Tyler, Florence, Wis.; Brenda (Butch) Thompson, Allouez; Kurt (Connie) Peters, Pulaski; seven grandchildren, Brett, Brock, Blake, Amanda, Tricia, Tara, Adam; five great-grandchildren; brother, Jack (Bonnie) Peters; sister, Sr. Mary Grace Peters; a sister-in-law, Helen Peters; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-laws, Jim (Mary Helen) Smits, Jerry (Jill) Smits, Mary (Jim) Powers, Roy (Dawn) Smits, Tom (Judy) Smits, Linda Heuvelman; family friend, Liz Smits.
    He was preceded in death by his wife, Veramae; parents, Barney and Clara; three children, Mary, Joseph, James; twin brother, Norbert Peters; two sisters-in-law, Mary Lou Smits, Clara Mae Smits.
    Friends may call at Cotter Funeral Home, 860 N. Webster Ave., De Pere, on Wednesday from 4 until 8 p.m. Parish prayer service 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass at St. Mary Catholic Community, Pope John XXIII Circle, off Sportsmans Dr., town of Ledgeview. Mass of Christian Burial 11a.m. Thursday at the church with Rev. John H. Harper officiating. Interment in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, De Pere.

    He was born Oct. 29, 1927, to the late Barney and Clara (Kersten) Peters.

    On Dec. 28, 1955, he married Yvonne "Bonnie" Ambrose.

    Jack lived in De Pere his entire life. He is a veteran of the United States Army having served in Korea from 1946 to 1948.

    Jack had worked at De Pere Liquor, as well as Leicht Trucking, Spector Freight and Ande's Systems as a truck driver. He also drove stock cars for 17 years, then took over the De Pere track from Bob Marquis, which he ran from 1970 to 1976. Jack then ran Luxemburg racing before giving it up.

    He is survived by his wife, Yvonne "Bonnie" Peters; his sister, Sister Mary Grace Peters; and his sister-in-law, Helen Peters; as well as Bonnie's family. Jack was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Norbert, and Robert (Vera); as well as members of Bonnie's family.

    Friends may call at the RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 305 N. Tenth Street, De Pere, from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 6, 2011.     Running, Alice Jane Alice Running, formerly of Appleton, went to be with Jesus and the rest of her loved ones on Tuesday morning, December 11, 2007. She was 97. Alice was born in Appleton on May 8, 1910, daughter of the late James and Caroline (Weinfurter) Vanderheiden. She was a graduate of the Appleton High School, and after a bit of business schooling, began work at the Kimberly-Clark Corp. On June 26, 1933, she married Mark Running, and with the birth of her first child, she left the workforce to raise a family.

    Her much loved family provided her with the greatest joys in her life. They include six loving children: James (Shirley) Running of Rhinelander; Barbara (James) Kranzusch of Appleton; John (Jude) Running of Appleton; Patricia (Robert) Rueckl of Appleton; Thomas (Sue) Running of Greenville; and Gerald (Bev) Running of Appleton. There are also eighteen grandchildren, thirty-one great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Mark Running, infant children Mary Alice and Joseph, by sisters Dorothy Vanderheiden and Bessie (Sister Capistran), and by brothers Carl, James, Martin, and Ray Vanderheiden and their wives.

    The funeral liturgy for Alice will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, December 15, 2007, at SACRED HEART CATHOLIC CHURCH, 222 E. Fremont Street in Appleton with Fr. Norm Krutzik officiating. A private entombment will be held at Appleton's St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 11 a.m. until the hour of the liturgy at 1 p.m.

    Vander Velden, Fern L. Fern L. (Verstoppen) Vander Velden, 83, lifelong Green Bay area resident, died Monday, July 31, 2006. She was born April 14, 1923, to Felix and Elsie (Vander Perren) Verstoppen. On June 14, 1947, she married Wilmer "Bill" Vander Velden at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Fern and Wilmer enjoyed traveling. She was a member of St. Joseph Parish.

    Survivors include five children and their spouses, Linda and Dave Damro, Green Bay; Gene and Lynn Vander Velden, Little Suamico; Wayne and Rose Vander Velden, Belgium; Cheryl and Craig Parks, Crivitz; Glen and Kathy Vander Velden, Sturgeon Bay; her grandchildren, Wess (Korey) Damro, Chad (fiancee Cya Decurtins) Damro, Nathan (Melissa) Damro, Nik (fiancee, Starr Hubbard) Damro; Lissa Miller; Peter, Sam, Kate and Tony Vander Velden; Joe, Chris, Dave and Chelsea Parks; Ben, Jake and Zach Vander Velden; great-grandchildren, Bray and Tyler Damro; Jacob and Noah Damro; Tyler and Tanner Miller and Shayne Luck; one brother and sister-in-law, Virgil and Carol Verstoppen; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Eva Vander Velden, Verona McNamara, Elmer and Lorraine Vander Velden, Mary and John Kosinski, Gladys and Bud Ambrosius, Gerald and Jean Vander Velden, Joyce Vander Velden; many special nieces and nephews.

    She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilmer, on Dec. 22, 2003; her parents, an infant brother, Merlin Verstoppen; one brother and three sisters-in-law, Melvin and Evelyn Verstoppen, Dawn Verstoppen, Dorothy Vander Velden; three brothers-in-law, Henry and Virgil Vander Velden and John McNamara.

    Friends may call at St. Joseph Catholic Church, corner of Ninth Street and 12th Avenue, from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Friday. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at the church with the Rev. Donald Everts officiating. Burial will be St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Howard.
