    Ebbens, George

    George Ebbens, age 85, of Appleton died Monday, April 26, 2010, at Cherry Meadows Hospice. George was born in Chicago on January 7, 1925, to the late Ralph and Tennie (Tulp) Ebbens Sr.

    After graduating High School in Chicago, George proudly served his country in the Army during World War II where he received 5 Bronze Battle Stars with a Silver Star Cluster, a Bronze Spearhead, World War II Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal, European Theater Medal, American Defense Medal, and four Overseas Service Stripes.

    He worked for many years at Appleton Medical Center where he was in charge of the laundry department. He was the recipient of many Hayward M. Wiley Awards from 1980 to 1985. He attended U. W. Oshkosh where he completed the course Developing Training Programs in Growing Firms. In 1982, he was a candidate for The Northern Wisconsin Chapter of The National Association of Institutional Laundry Managers for Laundry Manager of the Year. After retirement George decided to go back to work as a courier for the labs at ThedaCare in the Fox Valley.

    George enjoyed playing golf, was an avid Packer fan and he loved to eat. He also enjoyed his coffee; two creams one sugar.

    He is survived by his wife Darlene, Appleton; four sons and daughters: Frank Ebbens, Neenah; Diane Mischler, Poy Sippi; Randy (Kathy) Ebbens, Appleton; and Sue (Joe) Van Dehy, Darboy; their mother, Jacqueline Ebbens, Appleton; ten grandchildren: Lori, Lisa, Jason, Scott, Steve, Nicole, Angie, Kristin, Jacob, and Jesse; 12 great-grandchildren; his brother, Herman Ebbens; two sisters: Bess and Marge, and special nephew Georgie; 11 step sons and step daughters: Cyndee Cornelius, Laurie Hopkins (Dan) and her children Tyler (Ashley), Molly (Brian), and Madeline, Jeanine Dorow, Dan Dorow, Dawn Weir (Rob) and her children Mallory and Karley, Chris (Amy) Dorow and children Zach, Josh, Ashley, and Kaleb, Tom Dorow, Scott Dorow and his son Hunter, Quinten Nettesheim (Karla), Steve (Jolene) Wochenske and daughter Aurelia, and Joy (Darek) Lewis and sons Owen and Cameron.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, son John, four brothers: Ralph Jr., Jack, Bob, and Raymond; a sister Bernice, and a step daughter Darla Dorow.

    A Memorial Service will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday, April 30, at the Brettschneider-Trettin-Lederer Funeral Chapel, followed by full military honors performed by the Harvey Pierri VFW Post 2778. Friends may visit at the funeral chapel on Friday from 4 p.m. until the time of service. Inurnment will take place at Highland Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established for Parkinson and Alzheimer Disease.
