  • Note: Clifford J. Arndt, 93, Menasha, passed away peacefully at his home with his loving family at his side. He was born on Feb. 21, 1917, in High Cliff, son of the late Herman and Ida (Fiedler) Arndt. Clifford was united in marriage to Margaret Birling, on Sept. 7, 1940, and she preceded him in death in 1974.

    Cliff served his country in the U.S. Army. Cliff was a member of the Civilized Conservation Corp. (CC's) from 1935-36. Upon his retirement in 1980, Cliff had worked for many years at Central Paper. He enjoyed woodworking, especially building birdhouses. Cliff loved the outdoors and was a fisherman, hunter and a gardener. He also liked playing a few hands of Sheepshead and cribbage.

    Sports were another favorite pastime, watching his favorite teams like the Cubs, Brewers, and the Packers in that order. Cliff was a family man and tried to spend as much time as possible with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

    Cliff will be missed by his loving family, including his son, David (Marilyn); son-in-law, Dean Planert; four grandchildren, Dan (Leah) Planert, Chad (Stacey) Arndt, Wendy (Matt) Blansette, Melissa (special friend, Jason) Hildebrand; six great-grandchildren, Patrick, Ashley, Rheanna, Austin, Sam, Jordan; one sister, Delores Giebel; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, neighbors and friends.

    He was also preceded in death by two daughters, Rita and Ruth; one sister and three brothers.

    A Prayer Service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 18, 2010, at Martens-Laemmrich Funeral Home, 312 Milwaukee Street, Menasha. Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Interment will take place in St. Mary Cemetery, Town of Menasha.

    In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established.

    The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dan and Leah for living and caring for Grandpa for the past ten months. Your love and kindness will always be remembered.

    Trader, Frances L.
    Frances L. Trader, 89, Menasha, died on Saturday, March 14, 2009, at Oakridge Gardens Nursing Center. She was born on July 18, 1919, in Menasha, the daughter of the late Gerhardt and Mary (Schuler) Birling. She married Frank Trader on Sept. 13, 1941, at St. Mary Catholic Church. He preceded her in death in October of 1980.
    Frances was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Menasha. She enjoyed playing bingo and trips to the casino. Frances loved going out to dinner and she liked to crochet. She was a member of the Legion Ladies Auxiliary and the Menasha Senior Center.
    She is survived by her children, Janet (Emmett) Berg, Appleton; and Gary (Nancy) Trader, Menasha; two grandchildren, Todd (Jennifer) and Benjamin; and one great-granddaughter, Delia. Frances is further survived by two brothers-in-law and four sisters-in-law.
    Frances was preceded in death by her grandson, Jonathan; five brothers and four sisters.
    A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Wednesday, March 18, 2009, 11:30 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, 528 Second Street, with Father Paul Radetski officiating. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 17, 2009, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Martens-Laemmrich Funeral Home, 312 Milwaukee Street. A second visitation will be held on Wednesday at St. Mary from 10:30 a.m. until the hour of Mass. Interment will be in St. Mary Cemetery.
    In lieu of flowers, a memorial is being established.

    Buksyk, Marie R. Marie R. Buksyk, Menasha, age 92, passed away peacefully in her home on January 30, 2007.

    She was born January 24, 1915, the daughter of the late Gerhardt and Mary (Schuler) Birling. Marie was united in marriage to Elmer P. Buksyk on April 22, 1946. She resided in Menasha all her life and worked as a salesclerk in several Menasha businesses. She worked for the Red Cross during World War II. She was an active member of St. Mary's parish. Marie was a wonderful homemaker and an excellent cook. She spent her entire life caring for and loving her family.

    Survivors include daughters: Nancy, Carol (Michael) Christman and son, Robert. Grandchildren: Carrie and Richard Christman. One sister: Frances Trader. Brothers-in-law: Clifford Arndt, David Buksyk, and William Buksyk. Sisters-in-law: Dorothy Birling, Lorraine Buksyk, Fran Buksyk, Rita Kieffer and many nieces and nephews.

    She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer, three sisters, five brothers, seven sisters-in-law, and four brothers-in-law.

    Our wonderful mother got her wish. She is now with her Savior and loving husband. She will be remembered and missed.

    A special thank you to her daughter, Nancy, who lovingly cared for her. We would also like to acknowledge the kindness of Dr. Cindy Scherer and Hospice nurses, Beth and Kathy.

    Funeral services will be held at St. Mary Catholic Church, Menasha on Saturday, February 3, 2007, at 12:30. Family and friends will be received at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of mass. A memorial fund will be established for Hospice.

  • Note: Harold Birling, 86, Neenah, passed away Sunday, Aug. 29, 2010. He was born March 23, 1924, in Neenah, son of Joseph and Rose (Marquardt) Birling. Harold was a U.S. Navy veteran, having joined the Navy in 1942 after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. On May 31, 1947, Harold married Carol Hanson and they recently celebrated 63 years of marriage. Together they had three children; two sons, Jeffrey (Kathy), Hortonville, who was born on Harold's 25th birthday; Dan, Wausaukee; and a daughter Chris, Appleton. Harold was a skilled carpenter, having learned his trade from his wife's Uncle August Selle.

    He was employed by Carpenters Local 955 in Appleton until his retirement. Harold then fulfilled a dream by building his own retirement home in Wausaukee. He loved the outdoors and watching the deer in their backyard, feeding the birds, going camping with his grandchildren, hunting, and fishing. Harold was a member of St. Mark Evangelical Lutheran Church, Neenah.

    Harold is survived by his loving wife, Carol; his three children; grandchildren who referred to him as "Grampa Bunka": Billie Jo (Jake) Gross, Addie (Ryan) Mahoney, Jessica (Andrew) Anson, Heidi Delorey, Amber (Matt) Molle, Danielle Lewis, Nathan (Iva) Delorey, and Sean Delorey; "Great Grans": Olivia and Emily Gross, Jack Grafmeier, Iylee Mahoney, Madeline, Carson, and Evelyn Molle, and Joshua Delorey; further survived by a brother, Joe (Shirley) Birling; a sister, Janet Hall; several nieces and nephews.Harold was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Delores and Elaine.

    Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2010, at the Kessler Funeral Home, 304 S. Commercial Street, Neenah, with the Rev. Stephen Dietzler officiating. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Neenah. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10 a.m. Tuesday until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established for the Marshfield Clinic Cancer Center in Marshfield, in hope that someone else will get a second chance at life as Harold did.

    Harold's family would like to thank Dr. Goldmann and the staff at Marshfield Clinic for treating Harold and allowing him 20 more years to enjoy his home in the north, his family, and his nightly bowl of ice cream! They would also like to extend their sincerest gratitude to the wonderful staff at Kilkenny Cottage, as well as Heartland Hospice, for their excellent care in Harold's final month.

    Carol Birling, 86, Neenah, passed away December 8, 2016. She was born December 11, 1928, in Neenah, daughter of Clarence and Viola Hanson. On May 31, 1947, Carol married Harold Birling. Together they had 3 children; 2 sons: Jeff (Kathy), Hortonville; Dan ,Wausaukee; and a daughter: Chris, Appleton. Carol resided most of her life in Neenah until Harold's retirement when they moved to Wausaukee, WI and lived for several years until returning to Neenah. Carol had a green thumb and loved growing African violets and houseplants. She enjoyed the outdoors and taking the grandchildren camping. She loved animals, especially her beloved beagle dogs. Carol was a member of St. Mark Evangelical Lutheran Church, Neenah.

    Carol is survived by her 3 children; grandchildren: Billie Jo Gross, Addie Mahoney, Jessica (Joe) Tillman, Heidi Delorey, Amber (Matt) Molle, Danielle Lewis, Nathan (Iva) Delorey, and Sean (Michelle) Delorey; great grandchildren: Olivia and Emily Gross; Jack Grafmeier and Iylee Mahoney; Madeline, Carson, Evelyn, and Joshua Molle; Oliver Delorey; 2 brothers-in-law and a sister-in law; as well as several nieces and nephews.

    Carol was preceded in death by her husband; sister: Marilyn Glander; and brother: Rob Hanson.

    Funeral services will be held 11:30 A.M. Monday, December 12, 2016, at the Kessler Funeral Home, 304 S. Commercial Street, Neenah, with Rev. Robert Wilkenson officiating. Visitation will be held Monday at the funeral from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.     Carol's family would like to thank the staff at Emerald Ridge Assisted Living and Peabody Manor for their compassionate care in Carol's final months.
