DENNIS MCCARTY DISOBEYS ADMONITION AND IS SERIOUSLY INJURED.

Dennis McCarty, one of the oldest residents of the city and father of County Treasurer J. J. McCarty was seriously injured by a fall Saturday. Notwithstanding that his daughters had warned him against doing so, he climbed to the roof of the kitchen to adjust a pipe on the chimney and fell to the ground a distance of one story. No one was home at the time and it is not known how long he lay where he fell. He finally managed to crawl into the house where his daughter Mayme found him upon her return. He sufferd a fractured hip and also fractured several ribs. Mr. McCarty reached the roof with the aid of a ladder and took a camp chair with him which is supposed to have closed when he stood on it, causing him to lose his balance. On account of his age, 93 years, his recovery is doubtful.

    OBITUARY - Kaukauna Times, Feb 4, 1910:

Dennis McCarty passed away at his home on Taylor Street this Friday morning at two o'clock at the ripe old age of nearly 90 years. His next birthday would have been February 10. His death came from disease incident to old age. The day before he died he sat out on the porch in the sunlight, and was up town Monday to be shaved. he had been seriously ailing though fro the past two months and had been in bed considerable of the time during that period.

Dennis McCarty was born in Cork county, Ireland, and came to America in 1845, to Quebec, and afterwards to St. Johns, N.B. He was married at Oswego, NY to Margaret Tobin sixty years ago and soon after came west to Green Bay, settling afterwards on the farm one mile north of Kaukauna which he left sixteen years ago when his wife died and he then moved to this city. The first child born on the farm was former mayor Joseph McCarty, deceased. Thirteen children were born to them, nine of whom are still living as follows: Florence J., St. Paul; Mrs. Ellen Baldwin, Georgiana, Florida; Mrs. Annie Glenn, Northport, Washington; Thomas, Salt Lake City; Mrs. John Flanagan, Tomahawk, WI; Mrs. Barney Corcoran, Katherine, Richard and Mary of Kaukauna. There are 39 living grandchildren--51 were born and there are 4 great-grandchildren making a numerous progeny.

Built of sterner material than most men, Mr. McCarty lived to a ripe old age after passing through the pioneer's life of hard-ships clearing up his farm and building his home. Only two years ago his activity caused him a serious fall from the roof of his home breaking several ribs and suffering other internal injuries which would have caused the death of a less hardy person.

The funeral will be held from Holy Cross church Monday morning at nine o'clock and be conducted by Monsignor P. J. Lochman.

HISTORY of OUTAGAMIE COUNTY DENNIS McCARTY, who for thirty-five years was engaged in agricultural pursuits in Kaukauna township, was one of the early residents and honored citizens of this place, and in his death this section lost one more of its sturdy pioneer farmers who did so much towards building up and developing Outagamie county and its interests. Dennis McCarty was a native of Ireland, the country which has given us so many energetic and reliable citizens, and came to the United States with his father at the age of twelve years, the family locating first in New York. He was married in that State to Margaret Tobin, also a native of the Emerald Isle, and in 1854 they came to Wisconsin, locating first at Maple Grove, and later moving to Green Bay, where they resided for several years. In 1862 Mr. McCarty came to Kaukauna, Wisconsin, by ox-team, and purchasing an undeveloped farm, resided there thirty-five years and built up a large homestead and well cultivated property. During his latter years he retired from activities, and after 18 years of quiet life, he passed away February 4, 1910. He and his wife, who is also deceased, were the parents of the following children: Mary, Daniel and Charles.

Daniel D. McCarty of this city, who has been at the hospital in Oshkosh receiving medical treatment, departed this life last Wednesday morning. The sad intelligence was not wholly unlooked for my his relatives here, for he has been suffering for two years past from the effects of a stroke of Paralysis, and all knew that it was only a question of time when he must be taken to that borne from whence no traveler returns. Therefore the news of his death did not carry with it the shock that a sudden and unexpected one would.

The deceased was born at Kenosha, March 4, 1855 [census says NY?], and was therefore 45 years of age last Sunday. Three years later his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dennis McCarty, settled upon their old homestead a few miles north of this city, where Dan was raised into manhood. He therefore is known as one of the early pioneers of Kaukauna, for besides having spend his entire life here, he had with the exception of a few years, resided after reaching manhood, in the city. He was one of the builders and owners of the old Twin City hall which was erected and operated as the north side's place of amusement in the early '80's and which subsequently was destroyed by fire. He also served as alderman several years when the city was first incorporated, and at one time was marshal. His entire life as will readily be seen has been identified with Kaukauna, where so many friends deeply regretted his misfortune a couple of years ago when he was stricken with paralysis at Wilson Mich., where he was then conducting a stavemill, and who now again drop a tear at his departure.

Deceased was united in marriage to Miss Lizzie Murray in this city, November 2, 1882, who with five children - two boys and three girls, survive him.

The remains were brought home from Oshkosh Wednesday evening on the 6:25 passenger and the funeral occurred at 9 o'clock this morning from the Holy Cross Church, being very largely attended.
