    Vander Leest, Darlene Mae "Dar" Darlene Mae "Dar" Vander Leest, age 74, Appleton, passed away Sunday, April 9, 2006, surrounded by her family at Appleton Medical Center. She was born May 17, 1931, in De Pere, Wisconsin, to the late George and Alma (Aldrich) Verhagen. Dar enjoyed crocheting afghans, volunteering at the Salvation Army and being a caregiver for many people. Spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren was the most important thing in her life. She will be greatly missed by her children: Thomas (Deborah) Vander Leest, Little Chute; Ronald (Yvonne) Vander Leest, Tacoma, Washington; Debbie (Paul) Brandenburg, Wayside; and Lisa Vander Leest, Neenah; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; sister, Carole (Bob) Gerke; brothers: Wilbert (Lila) Verhagen and Kenneth (Sandy) Verhagen; sisters-in-law: LaVerne Verhagen and Virginia Verhagen. She is further survived by many nieces, nephews and her loving friends at Oneida Heights in Appleton. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Sandy; sister, Eunice Dederich; brothers: George (Mel) Verhagen and Merlin Verliager; maternal grandparents, Bert and Emma Aldrich; paternal grandparents, Antone and Mary Verhagen. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 12, 2006, at Apostolic Truth Church in Appleton with Rev. Mike Schmalz officiating. Entombment will be in Highland Memorial Park, Appleton. Friends may call at the church from 9 a.m. Wednesday until the time of service. A memorial fund is being established.     The son of the late Henry and Ella (Mettler)VanderLeest was born Dec. 16,1925 in Green Bay.

    A Navy Veteran of World War II, he was in the invasion of Okinawa. He was an inspector for Northwest Engineering in Green Bay and also worked for Sears in Green Bay for 18 years. He married the former Deloris Shevy on May 31, 1975 in Green Bay and was a member of the NRA.

    Surviving are his wife, Deloris VanderLeest, Pound; four children, Tom (Debbie), Little Chute; Ronald (Yvonne), Tacoma, Wash.; Debbie (Paul) Brandenberg of the Town of Morrison, and Lisa VanderLeest, Neenah; seven grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, two sisters, Virginia (Richard) Hewvelmans, De Pere; and Lois Harrison, Green Bay.

    Along with his parents, he was preceeded in death by a daughter, Sandra.

    At his request, no funeral services were held. Rhodes-Charapata Funeral Home, Coleman assisted the family with arrangements.

    She was born November 22, 1958 in Green Bay to the late Larry and Darlene (Verhagen) Vander Leest. She married Paul Brandenburg on September 11, 2005. Debra and Paul enjoyed living on their hobby farm and Debra enjoyed working with their dogs and garden. She started Corgi Nations which rescues dogs and cats. Debra really enjoyed her involvement in the Corgi Nations and the many friends she had through this organization.

    She will be sadly missed by her husband Paul, the Brandenburg and Vander Leest families, other relatives and many friends.

    It was Debra's wish to have a graveside service which was accorded at Zion Wayside Cemetery on Tuesday, January 17, 2017.

  • Burial: She was buried in Mount Olivet Catholic Cemetery, De Pere, Wisconsin.
  • Note: Carol E. (Verhagen) Gerke, 87, lifelong resident of De Pere, was called home for Christmas to be with her Lord and Savior on December 23, 2014. She was born March 25, 1927 to George and Alma (Aldrich) Verhagen. Carol married Robert Gerke, her classmate from Nicolet High School, class of 1944, with Abbott Bernard Pennings officiating. Bob and Carol celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on July 2.

    Carol worked at the Wisconsin Telephone Co. after graduation. She loved to sing. Carol performed in operettas in high school, sang in choirs and chorus groups for weddings and funerals, and played the part of a nun in the theatrical production of The Sound of Music at St. Norbert College. Carol played golf and belonged to a bridge club for many years. Carol and Bob vacationed in Door County with friends and family, enjoying golf, shopping, and beautiful scenery. In later years, they spent winter months in Florida and Arizona with Bob's brother Carl and his wife Rosemary.

    Carol was devoted to her husband and family. She was known for her kindness, generosity, and cheerful disposition. She made friends easily and was loved by all. Each of us treasures the times spent at her kitchen table, enjoying her good food and laughter. Carol read her Bible and prayed daily for each of her kids. Her faith was very important to her.

    Carol will be sadly missed by her husband, Bob; children, Gloria (Mark) Watzka; Thomas Gerke; Richard (Jeanette) Gerke; Sally (Steve) Kuss; grandchildren, Brenton (Jodi) Watzka; Brian (Erica) Gerke; Lisa Zimonick; Carissa (Josh) VanStraten; Robert (fiancée Mina) Kuss; Jonathan (special friend Hannah) Gerke; and Timothy (special friend Marissa); great-grandchildren, Victoria and Nolan Watzka; Carter Lynn and Kendall Gerke; and Dax and Jett Zimonick. She is further survived by her brothers and sisters-in-law, Ken (Sandy) Verhagen, Lila Verhagen, Virginia Verhagen, Andrew Gerke, Nancy Gerke, and many nieces and nephews.

    Carol was preceded in death by her siblings and their spouses, Eunice Dederich, Mel (Laverne) Verhagen, Wilbert Verhagen, Merlin Verhagen, Darlene Vanderleest; Bob's siblings, Grace Gerke, Carl (Rosemary) Gerke, Henry (Dorothy) Gerke, Sheldon Gerke, and Raymond Gerke.

    Family and friends may visit at Spring Lake Church, 2240 Klondike Road, Green Bay, on Saturday, December 27, from 9:00 am until the time of service at 11:00 am. Interment in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, De Pere. Cotter Funeral Home is assisting the family.

  • Death: Robert John Gerke died on March 29, 2016, at age 90, in Green Bay, Brown Co, Wisconsin.
  • Note: Robert "Bob" Gerke, 90, lifelong resident of De Pere, was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at St. Vincent Hospital with his children by his side. The son of the late Sheldon and Clara (Vande Castle) Gerke was born on December 12, 1925. Bob was a 1944 graduate of Nicolet High School. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II on the LST 882 from 1944 to 1946. Robert married his classmate Carol Verhagen with Abbot Bernard Pennings officiating. Bob and Carol celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on July 2, 2014. They had four children, seven grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. After the war he worked at the post office in West De Pere for 38 years as a clerk-carrier and then finished as a station manager. Bob was an avid Packers and Brewers fan and also enjoyed his golfing and bowling leagues. He also enjoyed vacationing in Door County, Arizona, and Florida.

    Bob was loved by his family and will be deeply missed.

    He is survived by his children: Sally (Steve) Kuss; Richard (Jeanette) Gerke; Thomas Gerke; Gloria (Mark) Watzka; his grandchildren: Brenton (Jodi) Watzka; Brian (Erica) Gerke; Lisa Gerke-Zimonick; Carissa (Joshua) Van Straten, Robert (Mina) Kuss; Jonathan (Hannah) Gerke; Timothy (friend Marissa) Gerke; great-grandchildren: Victoria Watzka; Nolan Watzka; Dax Zimonick, Carter Gerke; Jett Zimonick; Kendall Gerke; family friend, Michael Cross. Bob is also survived by his brother Andrew Gerke; sister-in-laws: Nancy Gerke, Lila Verhagen, Virginia Verhagen; brother-in-law, Kenneth (Sandy) Verhagen; nieces and nephews.

    In addition to his wife Carol (December 23, 2014) and his parents, Bob is preceded in death by his siblings and their spouses: Grace Gerke; Carl (Rosemary) Gerke; Henry (Dorothy) Gerke; Sheldon Gerke; Raymond Gerke; Carol's siblings: Eunice Dederich; Melvin (Laverne) Verhagen; Wilbert Verhagen; Merlin Verhagen; Darlene Vander Leest.

    Family and friends may visit at St. Mary Catholic Church, 4805 Sportsman Dr., Ledgeview, on Saturday, April 2, 2016 from 9:00am until 10:45am. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am with Rev. Richard Getchel officiating. Online condolences may be expressed at www.cotterfuneralhome.com. Cotter Funeral Home and Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements.

    In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund will be established.
