    She was born August 21, 1867, at Freedom, and lived in this vicinity all of her life, and at her present address since 1927.

    She belonged to the Women's Catholic Order of Foresters and the Altar society fo St. Mary's church. The body is at Greenwood funeral home. Friends may call after 7 p.m. Wednesday until the time of the services which will be held Friday at 8:30 from the funeral home, and 9 o'clock from St. Mary's church. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Rev. Joseph Esdepsky will be in charge of services.

    The rosary will be said at 8 p.m. tonight and Thursday at the funeral home.

    Survivors include two sons, George and Joseph, Kaukauna; nine grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

  • Note: Frank J. Schmitt, 64, died early Wednesday morning at his home, 704 Main-ave., Kaukauna, following a paralytic stroke suffered on Monday. Funeral services will be held at 9 o'clock Monday morning at St. Mary church at Kaukauna and burial will be in the parish cemetery.

    Mr. Schmitt is survived by his widow, two sons, George and Joeseph; a sister, Mrs. Barbara Smith, Maywood, Ill.; a brother, Martin Schmitt, Freedom.

    Mr. Schmitt was a member of Branch No. 64 of Catholic Knights of Wisconsin and of St. Boniface society of St. Mary church.

  • Note: Mrs. Julius Vogt, 77, a resident of Kaukauna for 50 years, died at her home at 11:50 Wednesday evening after a 3-day illness. She was born May 4, 1871, in the town of Freedom and lived in Milwaukee and South Dakota before moving to Kaukauna in 1898.

    Survivors are the widower; seven daughters, Mrs. Joseph Fischer and Mrs. Chester Sawall, both of Appleton: Mrs. George Luebke and Mrs. William Schaefer, both of Kaukauna, Mrs. William Dries of West Allis, Mrs. Walter Vollmer of Hilbert, and Mrs. John Wagner of Lakewood; one son, John of Detroit, Mich.; one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Schmitt of Kaukauna; 24 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

    Funeral services will be held at 10 o'clock Saturday morning at St. Mary Catholic church, Kaukauna, with the Rev. Joseph Esdepsky in charge. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. The rosary will be said at 8 o'clock Thursday and Friday evenings aat the Greenwood Funeral Home, Kaukauna. Friends may call at the funeral home.

Julius Theodore Vogt

  • Note: Julius Vogt, who farmed in the town of Buchanan for over 50 years, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. George Luebke, route 3, Kaukauna, about 9:30 Monday evening. He was 87 and lived at 317 W. 11th street, Kaukauna.

    Vogt was born July 28, 1863, at Freedom and spent 20 years in South Dakota before returning to the town of Buchanan in 1898.

    The cortege will form at 8:30 Thursday morning at the Greenwood Funeral Home at Kaukauna and services will be held at 9 o'clock at St. Marys Catholic Church, Kaukauna, with the Rev. Joseph Esdepsky in charge. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Rosary will be recited at 9 o'clock tonight and Wednesday evening.

    Carpenter, Othilia M. "Tillie" Othilia M. "Tillie" Carpenter, age 97, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 18, 2007, at the Birch Hill Health Care Center of Shawano. She was born Othilia Mary Killian on Sept. 25, 1910, in Kaukauna to Adam & Johanna (Lohmann) Killian. She was baptized, received first communion and was married at St. Mary Catholic Church of Kaukauna. She graduated from Kaukauna High School, Outagamie County Normal School of Kaukauna and Central State Teachers College of Stevens Point. Tillie was a teacher in Outagamie and Brown counties and a bookkeeper prior to being united in marriage to Erwin C. Carpenter on May 1, 1938, in Kaukauna. After their marriage, Tillie's full-time occupation was Mom to her 4 boys. They lived in Kaukauna and Appleton before moving to Shawano in 1954. She was preceded in death by her husband Erwin on September 1, 1986.

    She is survived by her four sons: David Carpenter, Madison; Gerald (Anita) Carpenter, Oshkosh; Ralph (Cheryl) Carpenter, Appleton; Thomas (Barbara) Carpenter, De Pere; three grandchildren: Brad (Linda) Carpenter, Robert (Rachel) Carpenter and Paige (Jeff York) Carpenter and three great-grandchildren: Hannah, Laurel and Lindsay Carpenter; sister-in-law, Mildred Killian, Dimondale, MI.

    She was also preceded in death by her parents, six brothers and four sisters.

    Funeral Services Friday, November 23, 2007, at 11 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Fr. David Barrett, officiating. Entombment at the Sacred Heart Mausoleum. Friends may call after 9 a.m. Friday at the Church until time of services. Schroeder-Mickelson Funeral Service of Shawano is in charge of the arrangements. A memorial fund for the Activity Room at Birch Hill Heath Care Center has been established in her memory.

    Fomerly of Appleton and Stockbridge, age 88, died at 11:15 p.m. Monday. She was born February 6, 1886 in Milbank, South Dakota. Mrs. Fischer resided in Kaukauna until her marriage in 1919, then moved to Appleton. She attended Outagamie County Normal School and taught at rural schools prior to her marriage. She resided in Appleton until 1958. She had done substitute teaching in area schools after her marriage. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, and was president of their Christian Mothers Society in 1945 and 1953. She was active in Girl Scouting, as a leader, troop organizer and leadership training, while in Appleton. After moving to Stockbridge in 1958 she was on teh Sewage Commission, active in the Christian Mothers Society in Stockbridge, a member of the American Legion Auxilary and the Stockbridge Garden Club.

    Survivors include four daughters and their husbands: Mrs. Virginia Derridinger, Appleton; Germaine Heinbach, Joan and Mark Keuler, all of Stockbridge; Judy and Frank Stilp, Neenah; a son and his wife, Carlton J. and Jean, Atlanta, Georgia; five sisters and their husbands: Agnes Luebke and Nell and William Schaefer, all of Kaukauna; Mayme and William Dries, West Allis; Florence and Walter Vollmer, Hilbert; Louise Sawall, Appleton; 20 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren.

    The complete funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Appleton, with the Rev. John Zickert officiating. Interment will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Friends may call at the Thomas-Ellenbecker Funeral Home, 1213 N. Appleton St., from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and after 9 a.m. Thursday until the hour of the service. There will be a prayer service at 8 Wednesday evening. A memorial fund is being established.

    Funeral services will be at 9 o'clock Monday morning at St. Joseph Catholic church with burial in the parish cemetery. The rosary will be recited at 8 o'clock Sunday evening at the Ellenbecker Funeral home where friends may call after 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon.
