Birling, Elsie L.
Elsie Birling, Appleton, age 92 years, entered into Eternal Life on Easter Sunday, April 16, 2006 at Franciscan Care Center. She was born March 17, 1914 in Aurora, Illinois the daughter of the late Michael and Louise (Zeiter) Hammes. On August 10, 1940 Elsie married Alex Birling. She was a head cook in the Seymour School District. Alex and Elsie farmed in Appleton and Black Creek for many years. After Alex's death she moved to Appleton. Elsie was a member and volunteer at St. Mary Catholic Church. She loved traveling with her daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Rod and her sister Frances.
Elsie is survived by her children: Mary Brown, Appleton; Cathy (Gary) Westerman, Menasha; Tom (Betty) Birling, Black Creek; Betty (Rod) Harris, Appleton; Mike (Jean) Birling, Black Creek and Ron (Jane) Birling, Appleton; her daughter-in-law, Carol Birling, Menasha; 24 grandchildren: Sandy Stoffel, Linda Manteufel, Peggy Malueg, Bonnie Peters-Hartzheim, LuAnne Witthuhn, Roxanne Jansen, Shawn Smith, Connie Westerman, Gary Westerman, Jr., Tony, Andrew, Amy and Amanda Birling, Susie Haas, Barb Aldinger, Chris Birling, Tammy Smith, Cindy DuChateau, Jim and Daniel Birling, Doug, Laura, Lisa and Jennifer Birling; eighteen great grandchildren; sister, Dorothy Radke; sisters-in-law: Dorothy Birling, Frances Trader, Marie Buksyk and brother-in-law, Clifford Arndt. She is further survived by nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Elsie was preceded in death by her husband Alex, son Bill Birling, sisters: Agnes Gawlick, Frances Backman, brother John Hammes, great grandchildren: Joshua and Elizabeth and a son-in-law Richard Brown.
The funeral liturgy for Elsie will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 21, 2006 at ST. MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 312 S. State Street., Appleton with Fr. Michael K. O'Rourke officiating. Interment will take place at St. Mary's Cemetery, Menasha. Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 20 at the Wichmann Funeral Home from 4 - 8 p.m., with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., and at the Church on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of mass. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Mary Catholic Church are appreciated.

Birling, William G.
William George Birling, "Bill," age 59, Menasha, entered into eternal life on Monday, April 3, 2006, after a short battle with cancer, at Theda Clark Medical Center in Neenah. Bill was born June 15, 1946, in Neenah, the son of Alex and Elsie (Hammes) Birling. He married Carol Falish on December 15, 1973, at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Green Bay. Bill had been employed at Blyth Home Scents since 1977.
He served his country in the U.S. Army. Bill was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Menasha. He enjoyed spending time with his granddaughter, fishing, hunting, the outdoors, fantasy football, and golf. He loved his gardening and Bill was a Packer Fan.
Bill is survived by his wife, Carol; his mother, Elsie Birling, his children: Susan (Duane) Haas, Milwaukee; Barb Aldinger, Menasha; and Christopher Birling (special friend, Karen Kellner), Madison; two grandchildren, Summer Aldinger and Isabelle Haas. Bill is also survived by his brothers: Tom (Betty) Birling, Black Creek; Mike (Jean) Birling, Black Creek; Ron (Jane) Birling, Darboy; his three sisters: Mary Brown, Appleton; Cathy (Gary) Westerman, Menasha; and Betty (Rod) Harris, Appleton; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father and his brother-in-law, Richard Brown.
Funeral services for Bill will be held on Friday, April 7, 2006, at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 320 Nicolet Blvd., Menasha, with Father Roy Geenen officiating. Friends and family will be received at the Laemmrich Funeral Home, 312 Milwaukee St., Menasha, on Thursday evening from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. when there will be a prayer service held. There will also be visitation at the church on Friday morning from 10 a.m. until the hour of the funeral mass.
The family would like to thank the staff at Theda Clark, Appleton Medical Center, U.W. Hospital in Madison, Father Roy Geenen and the St. Patrick's Community.
