  • Note: Heegeman, Allison Sue Freedom

Age 8, was laid into the arms of Jesus after a three year struggle with a rare disease on Sunday, April 20, 2003, at Children’s Hospital in Milwaukee. She was born in Appleton on December 5, 1994, daughter of John and Misie (Romportl) Heegeman. She attended first grade at Freedom Elementary School. Ally was angelic, showing compassion toward others. She showed an amazing ability to be strong and anyone who knew her benefited from it. She brightened the lives of anyone she met.

Ally will be greatly missed by her parents, a sister, Stephanie; brother, John; grandparents: Robert and Carol Romportl of Appleton and Jack and Ginna Heegeman of Appleton; great grandparents: Agnes Romportl of Rice Lake, Joe and Viv Kaufman of Appleton, and John and Jean Heegeman of Appleton; Aunts and Uncles: Paul and Jackie Griesbach of Greenville and Brad and Aimee Romportl of Hortonville; cousins: Trevor and Blake Griesbach of Greenville; Godmother, Sheila Kilishek of Forest Junction; and a very special friend who was always by her side, Alexis Julius of Freedom. Ally is further survived by numerous family members.

Allison is preceded in death by great grandparents: Isaac and Margaret Solberg and Frank Romportl; and an Uncle, Jamie Heegeman.

The funeral liturgy will be at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, April 25, 2003, at ST. NICHOLAS CATHOLIC CHURCH, Freedom, with Fr. Dennis Ryan officiating. Friends will be received at the Wichmann Funeral Home on Thursday, April 24, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and at church on Friday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service.

The family extends a special thank you to the staff at Children’s Hospital and her local medical team who cared for Ally. A heart felt thanks is also extended to the Fox Valley Area for the support given to Ally and her family through the course of her illness.

Free at Last God sent an Angel from Heaven above and gave her a special task, and when she had completed it, God took her home to Heaven…Free at last. Ally is free from the pain of this world, the pain that a child cannot mask. God himself wept for Allie until he took her home to heaven…free at last. What was Allie’s purpose, you wonder why was she here you ask? God had her here to teach us love, then he took her home to Heaven…free at last. Love is not what we think it is, it doesn’t leave when our time is past. Allie loved many while she was here. Now she is sharing it with God in Heaven… free at last. Allie can say the words she has wanted to say. That were held captive in the heart she had. “Mommy and Daddy, I love you.” And she is whispering and giggling about her sister and brother to God and the angels…free at last. She is skipping, jumping, eating, clapping and running, really really fast, all across streets made of gold up in Heaven where she is…free at last.
