    Schleis, Edward L. Edward L. Schleis, Winneconne, age 85, passed away on Sunday, August 5, 2007, at North Point Medical and Rehabilitation in Oshkosh. He was born on December 6, 1921, in Mosinee, Wisconsin, to the late John and Cecelia (Leary) Schleis. After high school, Ed proudly served his country during WWII with the Army Air Corps. On February 16, 1946, he married Joyce Kessler, and they recently celebrated 61 wonderful years together. Ed made his life as a lithographer in the Milwaukee area. He was a family man who enjoyed traveling, he and Joyce have been to 49 of our states! He also enjoyed photography, and was also a gifted craftsman who built his own houses, boats, and many other things.

    He is survived by his loving wife, Joyce; his children: Kathy (Steve) Rieth, Appleton; Bob (Jodi Otto) Schleis, Delafield; Martha (Mike) Broadway, Waunakee; Meg Groves, Madison; grandchildren: Jenny, Mike (Julie), Ben, Katie, Clare, Matthew, Jake, Nick; great-grandsons: Andrew, Sam, Josh, Jack; as well as other relatives and friends.

All friends and family are whole-heartedly welcome to attend a memorial on August 20, 2007, at 11 a.m. aboard the paddle-wheel boat on Lake Winneconne. The service to remember and celebrate Ed's life will depart from the dock at the Finn and Feather Restaurant on the West end of the bridge. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Ed's name.

    Ed was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Katie Rieth, and his only sister, Jeanne Holcomb.

  • Note: Susan M. Liebergen, age 72, of Appleton, passed away on Tuesday, April 4, 2017, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Appleton. Susan was born on July 25, 1944, in Appleton, to Marian (Zornow) Van Groll and the late Robert Van Groll. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Susan was a long-time employee of K Mart in Appleton. She made many friends while at K Mart and regularly kept in touch with her fellow employees. Susan was well-known as a talented seamstress, enjoyed reading and discovering bargains at thrift shops. However, her true passion was her family. She was a faithful and dedicated mother, and was "a rock" to her two granddaughters. Susan taught Stefanie and Emma sewing, crafting and the enjoyment of puzzles. She was always there for them.

    Survivors include her mother, Marian Van Groll, Lakewood, Wisconsin; her sons, Scott (Michelle) Liebergen, Appleton, and their daughter, Stefanie (fiancé Zach); Todd Liebergen (fiancée Joan), Nashville, Tennessee; Jeffrey (Catherine) Liebergen, Oshkosh, and their daughter, Emma; her brother, Peter (Donna) Van Groll; her sisters, Linda Kruse, Kathy (Dan) Kennedy and Amy (Dick) Heegeman. She is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

    The Funeral Liturgy will be at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 8, 2017 at ST. BERNADETTE CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2331 East Lourdes Drive, Appleton, with Fr. Don Zuleger officiating. Friends may call directly at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. Interment will be in St. John Cemetery, Little Chute. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the staff at St. Elizabeth Hospital, especially the ICU, for its loving care. A memorial has been established in Susan's name.   • Note: Leo O. Wilz, 80, Kaukauna, passed away at his home on Friday, October 21, 2011, with his family at his side. He was born on November 4, 1930, in Appleton, to the late Nap "Leo" and Marie (Kuehnl) Wilz.

    Leo married Joyce Mahn in 1955 and was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Kaukauna since that time. He proudly served his country as a truck driver in the U. S. Army during the Korean War, also serving in Germany and Japan. He later became a truck driver at Thilmany's Mill where he worked for 37 years.

    He was a long-time member of Kaukauna Electric City VFW Post 3319. He enjoyed trips to the casino with his friend, Bill. Leo loved the 4th of July, lighting fireworks with the grandkids and family. He was a friend to everyone he met and would give rides to people who couldn't drive. Leo loved animals, especially Dawson.

    Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Joyce; his children, Cindy (Dave) Niesen, Kaukauna; Barbara (Tim) Siebers, Kaukauna; David (Diana) Wilz, Kimberly; and Leo (Beth) Wilz, Iowa; his grandchildren, Lindsey and Eric Niesen, Heather (John) Sexton Nabbefeld, Hollie (John) Hammen, Wesley (Ashley) Siebers and Maria Siebers, Justin Wilz, and Nick and Haakon Wilz; his great-grandchildren, Chase Niesen, Hunter, Bianca, Titus, Judah, Moses and Haddie Cakes Hammen and two more great-grandchildren on the way! He is further survived by his brothers and sisters, Jim (Ellie) Wilz, Appleton; Russell Wilz, Lenoir, N.C.; Patti (Carl) Schoettler, Shiocton; Vicki (Larry) Gorges, Greenville; and Marie (Len) Chilicki, Waukesha. He is further survived by his in-laws, Don (Mary) Mahn, Kaukauna; Phyllis Bovee, Kaukauna; and Sister Rosalie, OSST, Euclid, Ohio.

    Leo was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert (Dorothy) Wilz and Tom (Ann) Wilz; his nephews, Mark Wilz, Tom Schoettler, Bart Bovee and Steve Mahn; and his niece, Debbie Mahn Stoneburner; his in-laws, Roy and Phoebe Mahn.

    Funeral services will be at 5 p.m. on Monday, October 24, 2011, at BETHANY LUTHERAN CHURCH, 124 W. Tenth Street, Kaukauna, with the Rev. Levi Willms officiating. Friends may call directly at the church on Monday from 3 p.m. until the time of services. Military honors will be observed at the church following the funeral. Interment will be in Highland Memorial Park.

    Our family would like to thank all of the ThedaCare Hospice staff, they are all special to us, and we want to thank Amanda who was like a part of our family.

    A memorial has been established in his name.
