Irene Ruth Brownell

    Kaukauna - Irene R. Schommer, age 70, of Kaukauna, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on January 22, 2018. She was born on March 28, 1947, daughter of the late Roy and Ruth (Gretzinger) Brownell. She married David Schommer on February 4, 1967, at St. John Church, Little Chute.

    Irene worked at Gardenview Assisted Living in Appleton as a caregiver, where she enjoyed her residents immensely. She also owned "House on the Hill Home Daycare", and loved each and every child that came through her care. Irene enjoyed going out to eat with her friends, but most importantly, loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

    Irene is survived by her daughter, Lisa (boyfriend, David Finch) Garnett; a son, Mark Schommer; grandchildren: Angi (Greg) Sweere, Zandria (boyfriend, Josh Krueger) Garnett, Tabitha Garnett and Victoria Garnett; great grandchildren: Liam and Fionna Sweere; a sister-in-law, Mary Brownell; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

    Irene was preceded in death by her husband, David; twin sister, Eileen (Denny) Peterson; brother, Roy Brownell; sister-in-law: Annette Schommer.

    Memorial services will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, January 27, 2018, at the Verkuilen-Van Deurzen Family Funeral Home, 101 Canal Street, Little Chute. A time of visitation will be on Saturday at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.

    The Schommer family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Winkle, Dr. Schimke and all the nurses and respiratory therapists at AMC for the compassionate care given to Irene. Also, a special thank you to Debbie Cannon for the wonderful friendship over the years. In lieu of flowers a donation to the COPD Foundation in Irenes name would be appreciated.
  • Graduation: She graduated from Kaukauna High School in 1965.

    Annette M. Schommer, 66, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 7, 2015. She was born on June 20, 1949, daughter of the late Ferdinand and Doris (DeLorme) Schommer.

    Annette proudly served her country in the United States Army. She worked at Valley Packaging for many years until her retirement. She loved Egyptian history and enjoyed learning new things by watching the Discovery Channel.

    Annette is survived by her sister, Mary Jo West, Kaukauna; a sister-in-law, Irene Schommer, Kaukauna; nieces and nephews: Christopher (Robyn), Jennifer, Matthew, Lisa (Jim) and Mark; great nieces: Angela (Greg) Zandria, Tabatha and Victoria; great-great niece and nephew: Fionna and Liam.

    Annette was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, David Schommer; a brother-in-law, Gerold West.

    He died Sunday night in the Wood county infirmary,
    where he had been a patient more than three years
    after a stroke.
    He had lived in Port Edwards 60 years and retired as
    an employee of the paper firm in 1949, after 43 years'
    service.
    After retirement he served as a consultant to
    various paper mills throughout the United States. He
    was a native of Manitowoc.
    Surviving are his wife, Jane, two daughters; two
    sons; one sister, Mrs. Carl Jacobs, Stevens Point; eight
    grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

With her sister, Mary Vandenberg, she helped manage the General Store in Freedom. She married Leo Diermeier in November, 1949. She taught at the elemtary level for 37 years, completing her teaching career the last 12 years at St. Joseph School, Appleton. She was a member of St. Joseph Parish, the Secular Franciscans, and the Ladies of St. Joseph. She is survived by her husband, Leo; three children: Sister mary Ellen, S.S.J., TOSF, presently teaching at St. Peter School, Stevens Point; Father Joseph Diermeier, O.F.M., Cap. Academic Dean, St. Lawrence Seminary, Mount Calvary, Wisconsin; Margie Diermeier, Appleton; her beloved sister, Mary Vandenberg, Appleton. the complete funeral mass will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Parish. Her son, Father Joseph, Will be the main celebrant of the concelebrated mass. Interment will be in St. Nicholas Cemetery, Freedom.
