The son of the late Wally and Selma (Lindquist) Holm, he was born on July 10, 1918 in Waukegan, Ill. He came to Kenosha as a young boy and attended school here, graduating from Kenosha High school. On May 1, 1943, in St. Thomas Aquinas catholic church, he married Rita Flynn. A former machinist at Macwhyte Wire Rope Co. for 44 years, he retired in 1980. He was a member of the St. Casimir Catholic church, UAW Local 960 Retirees, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 1055 and Macwhyte's 25-Year club. Surviving are his wife; four sons, Robert L., Missoula, Mont., and Roger W., Kenneth D., and Donald E., all of Kenosha; three daughters, Mrs. Bruce (Carol) Ladewig, Appleton, Mrs. Jeff (Patricia) Sweet, La Grande, Ore., and Rita D. Holm, Kenosha; a brother, Richard, Lorton, VA., and 14 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two grandchildren. The Lendman-Mischler Funeral home is in charge of arrangements.

Cripps, Riverview Health Care center, formerly of 307 West Marquette St., age 92, died Sunday, November 23rd, 1986, at 5:00 a.m. after a long illness. She was born February 4th, 91894, in Duluth Minn., the daughter of Peter and Ellen Ryan Cripps, and had been in Appleton resident since 1938. She graduated from Kaukauna high-school in 1912, and in 1982 she marked for 70th high-school graduation anniversary, and was given special recognition for being the oldest graduate. She married Bernard Hartzheim, July 9th, 1938. She was a member of St. Pius X Catholic church. Survivors include two nieces: Agnes Bies, of Kaukauna; Evelyn Schneider, of Chilton; five nephews: Jerome, Alfred, and Norbert Schmidt, of Kaukauna; Francis Schmidt, of Brillion; Lawrence Schmidt, of Shawano; and several cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, in 1981, a brother, Pearson and a sister, Emily. The complete funeral will be Tuesday, November 25th, 1986, at 7:00 p.m. from St. Pius X Catholic Church, with Rev. Donald Ronald Colombo officiating. Internment will be in the St. Mary Cemetery, Kaukauna.

    Age 86, died Friday evening. She was born July 15, 1896, in the Town of Harrison, Calumet county. Miss Hartzheim had lived and worked in this area all of her life. She was a member of St. Mary's Altar Society, and the Holy Cross Catholic Church, Kaukauna. Survivors include: a sister-in-law, Mrs. Winifred Hartzheim, Appleton; two nieces and five nephews. The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. M onday at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Kaukauna, with the Rev. David Beaudry officiating. Internment will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Kaukauna. Friends may call at the Greenwood Funeral Home after 3 p.m. Sunday and on Monday until the cortege leaves for the church. A prayer service will be at 7:30 Sunday evening at the funeral home.

He was born on December 20th, 1916, in Freedom, Wisconsin, the son of John and Anna (Dorsey) Kavanaugh Sr. He was the founder of a Kavanaugh Esquire Club on North Sherman Avenue, which began in 1947. Jack and his wife, Jane, enjoyed serving the Madison area community for many years and would like to thank their loyal customers and employees for their many years of friendship. John was a member of the Knights of Columbus #531, Elks Lodge, Moose Club, Wisconsin Tavern Guild, Wisconsin Restaurant Association and a charter member of Queen of Peace Catholic church. He is survived by his wife of nearly 62 years, the former Jane Colwell, five children, Patti (Thomas) Caputo, Kathy (James) Uhalt, John (Linda), Thomas (Cathy O'Sullivan) and Kevin (Colleen), 19 grandchildren, Bernie, Danielle, Tony, James Jr., (Joann), Charles, (Sarah), Jackie, John IV, (Gail Millard), Holly (Travis) Peltier, Bridget, Thomas Jr., (Leah), Chad (Alison), Brian, Dustin, Daniel, Kelly, Kristi, Casey, and Karen, and three great-grandchildren, Dawson, Hali and Kylie. He is also survived by Aliama Nyanger, John and Jane's caretaker. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, James, Nicholas, Robert and Michael, and a close friend, Bernard Klinzing. Funeral services will be held at St. Peter's Catholic Church 5001 North Sherman Avenue on Thursday June 5th, 2003, at 11:00 a.m. Father Roger Nilles will officiate. Entombment will be held at Resurrection cemetery.

William Thomas Kavanaugh

  • Note: Kavanaugh, William T 2004 Appleton Post Crescent dated 12/5/2004; Kavanaugh, William T. Born in Freedom, Wisconsin on September 1, 1919, Bill died on October 19, 2004, in Boca Raton, Florida, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Bill spent his professional life serving his country in various capacities. He enlisted in the Army during World War II and served in the European Theatre in the Medical Service Corps as a Hospital Administrator. He continued in that capacity after the war ended while working for the Veteran’s Administration at Wood Memorial Hospital in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and later in his career at the Veteran’s hospital in Tuskeegee, Alabama. After his active duty service, he remained in the Army Reserve, retiring as a Major. Bill relocated to Florida in 1972, and enjoyed his retirement years enjoying the warmth of Florida and traveling the world. He was particularly fond of sitting in his 6th floor home and watching the big boats sail up and down the intercoastal waterway that was his backyard. He was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Eleanor, who passed away in 1988. Bill was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Dr. Terry Carr Kavanaugh; and his sons, Michael (Susan) and Joseph (Jeri); his daughter Margaret; and his three grandchildren: Brian, Tracy and Allison. He remained close to both his family and Eleanor’s family even though living in Florida. He maintained loving relationships with his brothers: Jim (Dorothy), Nick (Marian), Jack (Jane), Bob (Rose), and Mike (Mary); and his sister Mary (Jerry). He was also close with Eleanor’s family including: Genevieve (Mert), Marge (Andy), Mary Ann (Jerry), Sylvester (Millie), and Clarence (Joyce). Our collective memories of Bill will include many social evenings spent playing cards with friends and relatives. Bill will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery alongside his wife of 40 years, Eleanor, who is interred there. The graveside services at Arlington Memorial park will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday, December 8th. Memorial Services will be held at his childhood church, St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Freedom, Wisconsin at 2:30 p.m. on December 10th.
