  • Note: Gussie Balck, age 87, passed away at Grand Horizons in Kimberly on Tuesday evening, January 3, 2012, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's Disease. Gussie was born in Kimberly on November 2, 1924, daughter of the late John and Dora (Nushart) Van Laarschot. In 1949, she married George Balck; he preceded her in death in 1983. For forty-one years, Gussie was employed in the mail room at Kimberly Clark and Badger Globe, retiring in 1983 to care for her husband and her "Paw", John. Gussie loved to visit Las Vegas with her sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Art Leske. She also loved to read and watching western movies.

    She is survived by her dear friends: Pat and Dean Walker, and Ginger and Lyle Van Dyn Hoven; a sister-in-law: Florence Balck and her family; and Margaret Nushart, DuWayne Nushart, and Wendy Obila and their families.

    Gussie was preceded in death by her husband George in 1983, mother Dora in 1971, father John in 1987, sister Mary Leske in 2007, and brother-in-law Art Leske in 2003.

    The funeral liturgy for Gussie will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 7, 2012 at ST. PAUL CATHOLIC CHURCH, 410 E. Wallace Street in Combined Locks, with Fr. Andrew Kysely officiating. Interment will be in Holy Name Cemetery, Kimberly. Friends may call directly at the church on Saturday morning from 10:00 AM until the time of the service.

    The family would like to thank the many caregivers who took such special care of Gussie. They include everyone at Heartland Hospice, especially Vi, and everyone at Grand Horizons, especially Heather, Jessica, and Alicia. We will always remember your kindness.

    Hansen, Evelyn R. (Nowak) (Vanden Wyngaard) Evelyn R. (Nowak) (Vanden Wyngaard) Hansen, Kimberly, age 78, passed away on Wednesday, September 19, 2007. Evelyn was born on July 7, 1929, daughter of the late Robert and Alvina (Normberg) Nowak. She married Joseph C. Vanden Wyngaard, Jr. on March 6, 1948. He preceded her in death on March 9, 1989. On August 24, 1990, she married Ralph Hansen, who preceded her in death on July 19, 1996. Evelyn was a member of Holy Spirit Parish in Kimberly and also a member of American Legion Auxiliary in Kimberly.

    The funeral liturgy will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 22, 2007, at Holy Spirit Parish, KIMBERLY CAMPUS, 600 E. Kimberly Ave., Kimberly, with Fr. David Beaudry officiating. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Friday, September 21, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. with a vigil service at 7 p.m. and at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the liturgy. Burial will be in Holy Name Cemetery, Kimberly.

    The family extends a special thank you to the staffs at Parkside Care Center, St. Paul Home and Heartland Hospice for their wonderful care of Evelyn.

    Glasheen, William J. "Bill"


    William J. "Bill" Glasheen, 89, Kimberly, died peacefully Saturday, March 27, 2010, at Appleton Medical Center. He was born July 31, 1920, in Appleton, to the late Ross and Regina (Homblette) Glasheen. Bill graduated in the first class of what is now Appleton West High School. He served in the 302nd Infantry 94th Division during World War II and received many awards, including the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, Good Conduct, World War II Victory, American and European Campaign medals. Bill was a 59-year member of the William Verhagen American Legion Post 60.

    Bill married Wilma Derkes on June 6, 1942, at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, Little Chute. He retired from the Kimberly Paper Mill in 1982 after 42 years of employment.

    Together, Bill and Wilma enjoyed square dancing for 25 years, with Bill as a caller for ten and Wilma planning dances for their three area clubs. Bill was an avid sturgeon spearer and decoy maker. They enjoyed 25 years of fishing and camping at Guth's Resort on the Wolf River.

    Bill is survived by his wife of 67 years, Wilma; children, Robert, Kaukauna; Joseph, Appleton; Susan De Bruin, Middleton; Michael (Kathleen), Kaukauna; Stephen, Neenah; and Patrick (Ann), Appleton; grandchildren, Robert, Jr., Ross (Becky), Robyn, David, Paul (Heidi), Elizabeth, Timothy (Jennifer), Kenneth (Sarah), Christopher (Jennifer), Jeffrey, Brian (Shironda), Gretchen, Samuel, Aaron and Tyler Glasheen, Amanda (Beau) Kriewaldt, godchild, Connie (Devin) Hogan, Lynn (Jim) Will, Andrew and Troy (Lisa) De Bruin, Lori (Aaron) Lahm and Julie (Jason) Hartl; great-grandchildren, Samantha, Breydon, Stephanie, Emily, Alex, Alexis, Kennidi, Madelyn, Megan, Maximus and Alana Glasheen, Elliot Kriewaldt, Sean and Kylie Hogan, Misty Will, Christian, Dominic and Noah De Bruin, Lily and Emerson Lahm, Trevor, Aiden and Katelin Hartl and Becky Glasheen's daughter, Mikayla Sipiorski; godchild, Diane Derkes: other relatives and friends.

    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, James; daughter-in-law, Sharon; two infant granddaughters, Kathryn and Emily; brothers, Clifford, John (Myrtle), Ross, Clarence and Joseph (Rita); his father-in-law and mother-in-law, William and Nellie Derkes; sisters and brothers-in-law, Marie (Ed) Rosner, Leona (Claire) Baumann, Peter (Edna) and infant Elmer Derkes.

    Visitation will be held Tuesday, March 30, 2010, beginning at 4 p.m. until time of Vigil service at 7 p.m. at O'CONNELL FUNERAL HOME (201 E. Main St., Little Chute). Visitation will continue Wednesday, March 31, 2010, from 10 a.m. until time of Mass at 11 a.m. at HOLY SPIRIT PARISH - KIMBERLY SITE (620 E. Kimberly Ave.). The Rev. David Beaudry will officiate. Committal Holy Name Cemetery where military honors will be conducted by the William Verhagen American Legion Post 60.

    Loderbauer, Peter M. Peter M. Loderbauer, Kimberly, 85, died peacefully Saturday June 17, 2006, at St. Elizabeth Hospital. He was born May 6, 1921, in the town of Buchanan, son of the late Michael and Theresa (Ashauer) Loderbauer. On January 13, 1945, Peter married Lorraine Krueger. The couple farmed in the town of Buchanan until moving to Kimberly in 1978. They enjoyed 54 years of marriage together prior to her death on October 12, 1999. Peter also worked for H.C. Prange and the city of Appleton, retiring in 1990. Peter loved playing cards. He was a member of Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, Kimberly.

    Survivors include a daughter, Geraldine Loderbauer, Kaukauna, 2 sisters; Agnes Wittmann and Alice Fink, both of Kaukauna, a sister-in-law Naomi Loderbauer, Kimberly. He is further survived by his wife's sister, Myrtle Broker of Chilton and numerous nieces and nephews.

    He was preceded in death by his wife Lorraine, a daughter, Patricia, a brother Raymond and two brothers-in-law,; Raymond Wittman and Francis Fink.

    Funeral services will be held at 4 pm Tuesday at Holy Name of Jesus at Holy Spirit Parish, 602 E. Kimberly Ave., Kimberly with Fr. Jim Lucas officiating. Burial in Holy Name Cemetery. Friends may call directly at the church from 2 pm Tuesday until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in his name.

    and 2 sisters-in-law: Gerhardt (Alice) Krueger.
    Sheboygan Falls, Mabel Krueger, Appleton; 2 sisters
    and 2 brothers-in-law: Myrtle Broker, Chilton,
    Amanda (Roger) Ott, Menasha, Walter Borree,
    Kaukauna; numerous nieces and nephews.
    She was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia;
    a brother, Victor Krueger; a sister, Caroline Borree;
    and a brother-in-law. Wallace Broker.

    Age 42, passed away in Kimberly on Tuesday, March 16, 2004. He was born in Appleton on December 30, 1961, son of Robert and Lena (Hakkert) Polakowski. On May 8, 1999, he married Lisa Julius at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, Kimberly.

    Paul enjoyed the outdoors. He always looked forward to Packer games, golfing, fishing and camping, but most of all, the times spent with his loving dog, P.J. Paul deeply cherished his nieces and nephews and they loved him just as much in return. He was known as “U.P.” (Uncle Paul), not only by his family, but also by all the neighborhood kids. He treasured many wonderful friendships and gave so freely of himself in all relationships. His life centered around his family and those he loved so dearly.

    Paul is survived by his wife Lisa, parents: Bob and Lena Polakowski of Kimberly, brothers: John (Cary) Polakowski of Neenah, Tom Polakowski of Fond du Lac, Jim (Marta) Polakowski of Rockton, IL; sisters: Nancy (Jerry) Kobussen of Kaukauna, and Joan (Chris) Olsen of Combined Locks; mother and father-in-law: Richard and Mary Ann Julius of Neenah; brother-in-law, Steve (Candi) Julius of Larsen; nieces and nephews: Cyndi, Lori, Becki, Angie, Anthony, Amanda, Brian, Tim, Emily, Rachael, and Michelle; and P.J.

Gladys married Alphonso Frassetto on July 20, 1946. He preceded her in death in November of 1994. Their marriage was blessed with three children. She graduated from Kaukauna High School. Gladys was employed at Woolworth's for many years. She was an exemplary homemaker who enjoyed bread baking, canning, needlework and card games. Gladys was a member of Holy Spirit Parish, the Golden Agers and Holy Name Mission clubs for many years.

    Gladys is survived by her three children: Richard, Neil (Connie) and Shari (Matt) Hanna; 5 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

    She was preceded in death by her husband, 4 brothers and numerous other relatives and friends.
