    Kaufman, Margaret A. (McDaniel) “Mugs” Kimberly

    Age 78, died at Brewster Village in Appleton on Thursday, July 19, 2007. She was born in Kaukauna on July 8, 1929, the daughter of the late Gordon and Alvira (Van Lanen) McDaniel. On April 19, 1947 she married her husband, Lyle Kaufman, at St. Paul Catholic Church, Wrightstown. They enjoyed 58 years of marriage, living for a majority of their time in Kimberly. He preceded her in death on January 8, 2006. Margaret volunteered much of her time at Holy Spirit Parish, especially taking care of the candles. Dancing and listening to country music were among her favorite activities. She visited her neighbors for many years, selling Avon products. Margaret will be dearly missed by her friends and neighbors as they spent Sunday mornings together enjoying coffee and deserts. Margaret’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren were very dear to her.

    Margaret is survived by her children: Joe (Jane) Kaufman of Combined Locks, Bob (Lynn) Kaufman of Green Bay and Bill (Mary Kay) Kaufman of Neenah; daughter-in-law, Cindy (Charlie) Kaufman-Specht; grandchildren: Paul (Jaime), Ryan, John (Tara), Randy (Sarah), Patrick (Meggen), Lori (Tom) Merkel, Ross (Michelle), Carol (Brad) Van Camp, Julie (Tim) Martin and Kathryn; great-grandchildren: Claire Ann, Marie Jane, Anna Jo, Benjamin Richard, Dominick Gordon, Kaylynne Marie, Josi Lynn, James Michael and Quinn Daniel; twin brother and sister: James (Betty) McDaniel of Kaukauna and Jane (Dave) George of Kaukauna; and good friends, Therese and Leroy. She is preceded in death by her husband Lyle: son, Chris; her parents; sisters: Mary Sullivan and Joan (Paul) Kersten; and brothers: John “Howard” McDaniel and Victor “Vic” McDaniel.

    The funeral liturgy will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 24, 2007 at Holy Spirit Parish, Kimberly Campus, 600 E. Kimberly Ave., with Fr. Tom Pomeroy officiating. Friends will be received at the church on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service. The burial will be in St. Patrick Cemetery, Sniderville.

    The family extends a special thank you to the staff at Brewster Village for their care and concern towards Margaret.

    Kaufman, Lyle E. Lyle E. Kaufman, age 80, died at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Appleton after a short illness on Sunday, January 8, 2006. He was born in Appleton on May 18, 1925, son of the late Joseph and Loraine (Dunsirn) Kaufman. Lyle served in the United States Army during World War II. He fought in Normandy and Rhineland, earning three overseas medals for the European, African, and Middle East theaters, in addition to the European Victory Medal, a Bronze Medal and the Purple Heart. On April 19, 1947, he married Margaret McDaniel at St. Paul Catholic Church, Wrightstown. He was employed at Schaefer Dairy for 20 years as an office manager where he worked on the trucks during the weekends with his brothers. After Schaefer Dairy, he worked at Appleton Appliance for several years, also as an office manager. He later worked at U.S. Oil in inventory control. Lyle was involved in Holy Spirit Parish for 55 years and served in the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2778, Appleton. Lyle was an avid gardener and a devout country and western fan. His Christmas candy will be remembered as his baking was very accomplished and legendary. Lyle is survived by his wife of 58 years, Margaret; children: Joe (Jane) Kaufman of Combined Locks, Bob (Lynn) Kaufman of Green Bay, and Bill (Mary Kay) Kaufman of Neenah; grandchildren: Paul, Ryan, John, Randy, Patrick, Lori, Ross, Carol, Julie, and Kathryn; great-grandchildren: Claire Ann, Marie Jane, Anna Jo, Dominick Gordon, and Josi Lynn; brothers: Joseph (Vivian) Kaufman of Appleton and Charles (Lorraine) Kaufman of Appleton; sister, Margaret Seidling of Menasha; daughter-in-law, Cindy Kaufman-Specht; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his son, Chris; and three brothers: Robert, Clarence and John. The funeral liturgy will be at 12 p.m. on Wednesday, January 11, 2006, at Holy Spirit Parish, 600 Kimberly Ave, Kimberly, with Fr. Tom Pomeroy officiating. Friends will be received at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the liturgy. She was born in Appleton on June 17, 1907, the daughter of the late Patrick John and Mathilda (Harper) Murphy. She was united in marriage to the late Benjamin “Benny” Smith on June 10, 1944 in Indiana where they enjoyed many years together. Louise graduated as a nurse from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in 1928. She spent the early years of her career at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Appleton (when it was only a house) and Mercy Hospital in Oshkosh. She then moved to Indiana with her husband and spent the remainder of her career working in public health with the Visiting Nurses Association. Louise moved back to Appleton about 10 years ago residing at the Heritage Retirement Center and most recently at Fox River Assisted Living Center. Louise was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Appleton. Over the years she enjoyed volunteer church work, playing bridge with her friends and heading to the north woods with Ruth. Louise is survived by her sister-in-law Ruth I. Murphy, cousins and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband “Benny”, sisters Margaret Green and Elizabeth “Betty” Friedwald and her brothers Edward, John and Richard Murphy. The funeral liturgy for Louise will be at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 4, 2005 at ST. JOSEPH CATHOLIC CHURCH, 410 W. Lawrence St., Appleton with Father Larry Abler officiating. Interment will be at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the CHURCH on Thursday from 3:00-6:00 p.m. A memorial fund in Louise’s name is being established.     Elizabeth M. Friedwald, “Betty”, age 85, died at home on Wednesday morning, May 18, 2005. She was born on August 28, 1919, daughter of the late Patrick John and Mathilda (Harper) Murphy. She was united in marriage to the late George B. “Guy” Friedwald at St. Mary Catholic Church on December 14, 1946. They enjoyed 59 years of marriage. Elizabeth graduated as a nurse from South Side Community Hospital in Chicago and later received her B.S. from the College of St. Francis. She worked as a nurse all of her life, ending her career with International Mineral and Chemical Company in Chicago. Betty was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Appleton. She and Guy spent their retirement years being avid golfers and traveling.

    Betty is survived by her sister, Louise M. Smith and sister-in-law, Ruth I. Murphy, both of Appleton; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband George, sister; Margaret Green; and her brothers: Edward, John and Richard.

    The visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the WICHMANN FUNERAL HOME on Friday, May 20, 2005. The funeral liturgy will follow at 6:30 pm at ST. JOSEPH CATHOLIC CHURCH, 410 West Lawrence Street, Appleton, with Fr. Larry Abler officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.

    George B. “Guy” Friedwald, age 90, passed away Saturday, March 5, 2005, at Franciscan Care Center, Appleton. George was born May 25, 1914, in Chicago, Illinois, the son of the late John and Matilda (Figel) Friedwald. He was united in marriage to Elizabeth Murphy on December 14, 1946. She survives.

    George worked most of his life as a salesman for Westinghouse Electric Supply. He served his country during World War II in the Army Air Corps as a crew chief for his plane “Skinny”, which made over 180 missions, all with safe returns. For his valiant service, George was awarded the Bronze Star. The Friedwalds were parishioners of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Appleton, and George was a member of the Knights of Columbus and their Fourth Degree. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed traveling.

    Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Elizabeth “Betty” Friedwald; two sisters-in-law, Louise M. Smith and Ruth I. Murphy, both of Appleton; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Florence Lawrence, a brother, Edward Friedwald, and a nephew, James Lawrence.

    The funeral liturgy for George will be celebrated at 6:00 P.M. Tuesday, March 8, 2005, at ST. JOSEPH CATHOLIC CHURCH, 410 West Lawrence Street, Appleton, with Fr. Larry Abler, OFM Cap., officiating. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Appleton. Friends may call from 4:00 P.M. Tuesday until the time of services directly at the church. A memorial fund is being established.

    Vander Putten, Agnes A.
    Agnes A. Vander Putten, 101, died Friday, Oct. 3, 2008, at Odd Fellow Home, Green Bay, where she had been a resident for three months. Agnes was born July 7, 1907, in Askeaton, Wis., the daughter of Gertrude and Edward Summers. Siblings were the late Walter, Genevieve and Claire. She attended St. Patrick's Elementary School, Askeaton, and Kaukauna High School, followed by health care work at the Riverside Sanitarium in Little Chute and Deaconess Hospital in Milwaukee.
    On July 6, 1932, she married R.J. Vander Putten at St. Patrick's Church in Askeaton. In 1960, after many moves, Agnes and her family settled in Green Bay where she became a longtime member of St. Mary of the Angels Parish and its Altar Society and Friendship Club. She gave generously through volunteer work at St. Vincent Hospital, St. Mary's Parish and the Green Bay Senior Center. A highlight of her working years was her compassionate devotion to her patients at Bellin Memorial Hospital in her role as a personal caregiver.
    Survivors include her children, Carole (John) Deising, Appleton; Wayne (Barbara) Vander Putten, Green Bay; Gerry Vander Putten, Peshtigo; Mary (Walt) Chapman, Janesville; and Peggy Soffian, Grass Valley, Calif.; grandchildren, Lori (Peter) Zarm and their children, Tara and Eric, Rhinelander; Mark (Renee) Schubart and their children, Kai, Kenneth and Raquel, Neenah; John Schubart and his children, Zak and Max, Lomira; Keith (Stacy) Vander Putten and their children, Dakota, Clay R.J., Brooke and Brittnay, Spencer; Mary (Michael) Schoeller and son, Daniel, Suamico; Peter (Jennifer) Nelson and their sons, Zachary, Cody and Casey, Green Bay; Julie Chapman, Green Bay; Joel (Amy) Chapman and their sons, Benjamin and Samuel, Woodstock, Ill.; Ananda (Satya) LoDuca, Santa Cruz, Calif.; Amos Soffian, London, England; and Viva Soffian, Grass Valley, Calif.; special Summers nieces and nephew, Mary Ann, Delores, Phyllis, Patsy, Pauline, Judy and Tom; and nephews, Bob and Don Golden, also survive.
    Agnes was preceded in death by her husband, Rudolph "R.J."; her daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth and Virgil Bodde; her son-in-law, Kai Paul Schubart; and her grandchildren, Lin and Michelle.
    Family and friends may call Monday, Oct. 6, 2008, from 10 a.m. until the hour of Mass at St. Mary of the Angels, 645 S. Irwin St., Green Bay. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 12 p.m. Monday at Church, with Fr. Walter Stumpf, great-nephew of Agnes, officiating. Interment will be in Allouez Cemetery.
