He was born in the town of Lawrence May 25, 1914 a son of the late Martin and Cecelia Wilme t Vissers and married Genevieve Ver Boort Nov. 18, 1937, at St. Joseph church. Mr. Vissers wo rked at Fort Howard Paper company for 43 years. Survivors are his wife, Genevieve "Jane"; six daughters, Mrs. Frank (Patrica) Hock of Abrams , Mrs. Louis (Ellen) Del Marcelle of Denmark, Mrs. Robert (Lucille) Minten of Sturgeon Bay, M rs. Donald (Marie) Kocken and Mrs. Vern (Anita) Ambrosius Jr. of De Pere, Mrs. John (Ruth) Va n Domelen of the town of Ledgview; four sons, Joe and Peter of De Pere, John of Dallas, Texa s; and Leo of North Pole, Alaska; 34 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; four sisters,Leon a Nackers, Mrs. Harvey (Verona) Van Lanen, Mrs. Mike (Joann) Roznowski and Elsi Kempen, and t wo brothers, Bob and Bernard. He was preceded in death by one son Edward; one grandchild an d two great grandchildren and three sisters, Agnes Vande Hei, Francis Van De Hei and Margie V issers. Friends may call at St. Francis Xavier church from 4 to 7 o'clock today (Thursday) Funeral s ervices will be held at 7 o'clock tonight at the church with the Rev. Anthony Dolski officiat ing. Burial will be in Mount Olivet cemetery with Cotter Funeral Home handling arrangements.

    Gerrits, Donald G. "Seymore"
    Donald G. Gerrits, Kaukauna, age 82, died unexpectedly Tuesday June 3, 2008, surrounded by his family at Appleton Medical Center. Donald was born in Wrightstown on June 23, 1925, to the late Anton and Anna (Bushman) Gerrits. He proudly served in the Army during World War II. On October 23, 1948, Donald married Ruth Heiman at St. Joseph Parish in Appleton. He retired from Kaukauna Cheese in 1987. Donald was a member of St. Katharine Drexel Parish. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, making crafts and bowling. He also liked to play Bingo, Sheephead and Cribbage as well as trips to the casino. Donald received the Fan Appreciation Award at the Holy Cross Basketball Tournament.
    Donald is survived by his wife of 59 years, Ruth; ten children: Kaye (Tom) Eiting, Combined Locks; Joyce Larson, Kaukauna; Don (Peggy) Gerrits, Kaukauna; Carla Bates, Kaukauna; John (Terri) Gerrits, Kaukauna; Pam (Jim) Rosin, Kaukauna; Lori (Mitch) Sultze, Kaukauna; Cork Gerrits and special friend Steve Klug, Oshkosh; Lynn (Keith) Fiala, Kaukauna; and Amy (Jay) Jansen, Kaukauna; 27 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; siblings: Leo (Gladys) Gerrits and Evelyn Hibbard; and sisters and brothers-in-law: Agnes Gerrits, Henry (Marcie) Heiman, Carl (Rita) Heiman and Dorothy (Merlin) Moderson. He is further survived by nieces, nephew, other relatives and friends.
    In addition to his parents, Donald was preceded in death by two sons-in-law: Dan Bates and Michael Nackers; siblings: Agnes (John) Schreurs, Sadie (Henry) Vande Loo, Martha (Ben) Ver Boort, Florence (Ky) Devroy, Eva (George) Schreurs, Ray (Lorraine) Gerrits, Edward (Betty) Gerrits, Pete Gerrits and infant sister Mamie; father and mother-in-law: William and Leona Heiman; and brothers-in-law: Kenny Hibbard and infant William Heiman.
    Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Friday, June 6, 2008, until the time of Mass at 5:00 p.m. at ST. KATHARINE DREXEL PARISH - ST. MARY SITE (119 W. 7th St., Kaukauna). The Rev. Jerry Pastors will officiate. Military rites performed by the Kaukauna VFW Post # 3319 will immediately follow. Committal St. Mary Cemetery, Kaukauna.
    The family would like to extend their gratitude to the Kaukauna Paramedics, the staff at Theda Care at Home and also the staff at Appleton Medical Center for their kindness and care.

  • Note: Gladys S. 79, and Leo P. Gerrits, 89 of Appleton completed their journeys to their Heavenly home. Gladys on Thursday May 3, 2012; and Leo on Sunday May 6, 2012 at Brewster Village, with family by their sides. She was born in Appleton, July 1, 1932, daughter of the late Henry and Theresa (McDaniel) Lamers. He was born in Wrightstown on November 16, 1922, son of the late Antone and Ann (Bushman) Gerrits. Gladys and Leo were united in marriage on May 5, 1959 and were blessed with 53 years together.

    Gladys spent her years raising her five children, and had a great love and talent for arts and crafts. She also had a great love for music. Gladys will be remembered for her selflessness, always putting her loved ones needs before her own.

    Leo served his country in the U.S. Coast Guard during WWII. He was employed for 40 years as a laborer for International Associates Machinists and Aerospace Workers. He enjoyed playing pool and horseshoes. Leo will be remembered for his dedication to his family, and his love of animals.

    Gladys and Leo were long time members of St. Bernard Catholic Church, Appleton. They will both be deeply missed by their family and many loving friends.

    Gladys and Leo are survived by their five children, Ronald (Debbie), Appleton, Sandra (Michael) Bodwin, Sturtevant, Diane (Pat) Nimtz, Hartford, Dennis (Abby), Chicago, IL, and Karen Liethen (Brett Jacobs), Appleton; six grandchildren, Kayla Duffy, Kevin Duffy, Michael Green, Jordan Green, Haleigh Green, and Samantha Bodwin; Gladys' sister, Carol (Bob)Dorsey; and her loving friend, Judy Kaddatz.

    A Mass of Christian Burial for Gladys and Leo will be 11:00AM on Friday May 11, 2012 at ST. BERNARD CATHOLIC CHURCH, 1617 W. Pine St, with Fr. Dennis Ryan officiating. Visitation will be held at Valley Funeral Home on Thursday evening May 10, 2012, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a prayer service at 7:00PM. Visitation will continue on Friday at the church from 10:00AM until the time of Mass. Burial will be at St. Paul Catholic Cemetery, Wrightstown.

    Gladys and Leo's family would like to give a sincere thank you to all of their caregivers and friends at Brewster Village, who gave them tender loving care both day and night.
