    Carl age 73 of Appleton passed away Friday April 15, 2005 after a prolonged illness. Carl was born January 17, 1932 in Appleton the son of the late Arthur and Elsie (Geiger) Stumpf. Carl was an Appleton resident most of his life. He was a 1950 graduate of Appleton High School. He was a 1954 graduate of Lawrence University where he was an athletic standout and still holds a football record. Carl was a 1st Lieutenant tin the U.S. Air Force as a pilot of KC97 refueling planes. He married his high school sweetheart Jeanne M. Hoeppner on August 4, 1956, sharing 47 years together before her death of February 26, 2004. Carl was a 28 year employee of Riverside Paper Co. where he was Vice President of Sales and Marketing. He later formed his own paper brokerage business which he ran until recently. Carl was a long-time member of St. Mary Parish. He served on the Northeast Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission and the Wisconsin Cystic Fibrosis board. He was an active community volunteer as a tutor, mentor and coach. Will be deeply missed by his three children Timothy (Kathleen) Stumpf of Hubertus, WI and their children, Michael, Patrick and Megan; Ann (Donald) Allen of Fox Point, WI and their children Tommy, Andrew and Sam; Thomas (Sharon) Stumpf of Eagan, MN and their children Jack and Daniel as well as many special cousins, nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, caring friends and neighbors. In addition to his parents and wife, Carl was preceded in death by a sister Mary Friebel and brothers Robert, James,Donald and Howard Stumpf. Visitors will be received at the Brettschneider-Trettin-Lederer Funeral Chapel on Monday, April 18 from 5 to 8 PM, with a prayer service at 7:30 PM. Visitation will be held at St. Mary Parish 312 S. State St. Appleton, on Tuesday, April 19 at 10 AM. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 AM with the Rev. Michael O’Rourke officiating. Burial will take place at St. Mary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for the St. Mary Parish Century II Building Fund, the Appleton YMCA’s Strong Kids Campaign or the charity of your choice.

    The family would like to thank Dr. Anthony Phillips, the staff at the Martha Siekman Cancer Center, Appleton Medical Center and Cherry Meadows Hospice for their compassionate and loving care. Special thanks also the many family, neighbors and friends who have cared for and supported Carl and his family during his illness.

    Carl will be remembered as an avid hunter, fisherman, golfer, cribbage player and long time member of the Appleton YMCA. We will miss his dry humor quick wit and unwavering honesty and integrity.
