    Age 51, died 9:10 p.m. Monday following a long illness. She was born January 4, 1925 in Appleton and had lived in Appleton all of her life. She had devoted her married life to her husband and children. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She is survived by her husband, Leo C. Sturm; her father, Henry Rossmeissl, Appleton; three daughters: Mrs. Robert (Sara) Hawley, Appleton; Miss Betsy, and Miss Ruth, both at home; two sons: Stephen, Oshkosh; Gregory, Appleton; a brother, Matt, Appleton; two sisters: Mrs. Edward (Louise) Mislinski; and Mrs. Stanford (Helen) Hass, both of Appleton; and a grandchild. She was preceded in death by her mother, Alice; a sister, Ruth; and a brother, John. The complete funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with interment in St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call at the Brettschneider-Trettin Funeral Home from 4 until 9 p.m. Wednesday and after 8:30 a.m. Thursday until the cortege will leave for the church.     VanDaalwyk, Marie Helen


    Marie Helen VanDaalwyk, age 89, of Chilton, passed away on Wednesday, December 16, 2009, at the Chilton Care Center following a courageous battle with cancer. Marie was born September 6, 1920, in the Town of Charlestown, daughter of the late Frank & Margaret (Woelfel) Geiser. Marie married John Scherer on June 9, 1941; he preceded her in death in October of 1964. Marie married Edward Heckner on November 26, 1966; he preceded her in death in September of 1980. Marie then married Martin VanDaalwyk on April 3, 1989; he preceded her in death on March 15, 2005. During her life, Marie worked as a secretary at the Sacred Heart Rectory in Appleton and she was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Chilton. Later in her life, she enjoyed spending her winters in Florida. She also enjoyed knitting, sewing, and crocheting, but her biggest joy was playing cards.

    Survivors include her sisters-in-law: Hildegard Geiser, and Violet Geiser, both of Chilton; and many nieces and nephews in the Geiser family. She is also survived by four step-daughters-in-law: Cecilia VanDaalwyk, Mary Jane (Robert) Phillips of California, Shirley (Max) VanGrinsvin; and a stepson: Eugene (Mary Jane) VanDaalwyk. She is further survived by step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, and many step-nieces and step-nephews.

    Marie was preceded in death by her parents; seven brothers; one sister; five sisters-in-law; one brother-in-law; a stepbrother and stepsisters: Lucy Hoffmann, Elsie Blindauer, Angela Woelfel, Dorothy Woelfel, Ray Wettstein; a stepson: James VanDaalwyk; and a stepdaughter: Elaine Popp.

    Funeral service will be at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, December 21, 2009, at Good Shepherd Catholic Church (54 E. Main St.) in Chilton with the Rev. Allen Geiser officiating. Burial will be in the Sacred Hearth Catholic Cemetery in Sherwood. Friends may call at the church from 9:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. on Monday, December 21, 2009, when the service will be held.

    The family would like to thank the staff of the Calumet Medical Center, the Calumet County Hospice, and the Chilton Care Center for all of their wonderful care and loving concern.

    VanDaalwyk, James M.


    James M. VanDaalwyk, age 80, of Chilton, died on Wednesday, October 28, 2009, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Appleton. He was born July 31, 1929, in Kimberly, son of the late Martin & Mary (Kroiss) VanDaalwyk. Jim was proud to have served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict where he was a crane operator who helped in the construction of landing strips and airfields. Following his discharge from the military, he married Cecilia H. Gregoire on August 20, 1953, at St. John Catholic Church in St. John. The couple then farmed together in the Town of Chilton until retirement. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Stockbridge, the Chilton VFW, the Stockbridge American Legion, St. John Branch of the Catholic Knights, and was a former member of the Calumet County Farm Bureau where he also served as a member of the board. Throughout his life, Jim enjoyed traveling with Cecilia, and the couple had been spending their winters living in Florida. He also took great pleasure in the time he could spend with his grandchildren, hunting, fishing, and sailing; his family, however, will always remember him as constantly inventing, fixing, or making something better.

    Survivors include his wife, Cecilia; his step-mother, Marie VanDaalwyk; his children: Linda (Roger) Meyers, Kenneth (Lisa) VanDaalwyk of MO, Cheryl (Douglas) Koffarnus, Joseph (Cindy) VanDaalwyk; nine grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; two sisters and a brother: Mary Jane (Robert) Phillips of CA, Eugene (Mary Jane) VanDaalwyk, Shirley (Max) VanGrinsvin; a brothers-in-law: Urban (Dorothea) Gregoire; five sisters-in-law: Verble Gregoire of IL, Ruth Gehl, Elaine Gregoire, Lorraine (Joe) Geiger, and Marian Gregoire of CA. Jim is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

    He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Elaine Popp.

    Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 31, 2009, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Stockbridge with the Rev. Philip Dinh-Van-Thiep officiating. Burial will follow in the Parish Cemetery. Friends may call at the Wieting Family Funeral Home (411 W. Main St.) in Chilton from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. Friday, October 30, 2009, and on Saturday at the church from 9 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. A parish vigil service will be held Friday evening at the funeral home at 7 p.m. Love, light thy way to that far distant shore.

  • Note: Eugene F. "Butch" VanDaalwyk, age 84 of Hilbert died on November 2, 2016 at the Atrium Post Acute Care in Chilton. He was born August 16, 1932 in Kimberly, son of the late Martin & Mary (Kroiss) VanDaalwyk. He married Mary Jane Wieseckel on May 29, 1954 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sherwood. The couple farmed together until retirement in 1988 when their son Bob, took over the family farm. He enjoyed working on the family farm, driving tractor, working the land and being greeted by Muffin, his beloved cookie dog.

    He was a member of St. John Sacred Heart Catholic Church in St John. He was active in the Farm Bureau, Catholic Knights, Knights of Columbus, Catholic Foresters, Men's Club and participated in church ushering and sang in the adult choir.

    Butch was a wonderful husband and father. He was known for his knack of listening and wisdom of when to talk. He was a support for many and took great pleasure in spending time with grandchildren, fishing, woodworking and playing Sheepshead with neighbors and friends.

    Survivors include his wife, Mary Jane, his children: Cindy (Chuck) Ott, Jean (Jim) Schaefer, Debbie (Tom) Porter, Lynn (Mike) Fox and Bob (special friend Brenda Schmitt); 11 grandchildren: Doug (Becky) Ott, Melanie Schaefer, Mark (Jennifer) Schaefer, Mitchell (Amanda) Schaefer, Lance (Carmen) Busse, Grant Busse, Neil Busse, Austin Gates, Brett VanDaalwyk, Anna VanDaalwyk and Blake VanDaalwyk. 6 great grandchildren: Jenna Ott, Allison Schaefer, Clay Schaefer, Levi Schaefer, Weston Busse and Carson Busse: 5 step grandchildren, 1 sister: Shirley (Max) VanGrinsven, sister-in-law: Cecilia VanDaalwyk, and a brother-in-law Larry (Mardella) Wieseckel.

    He was preceded in death by his parents; his in-laws: Clem & Dorothy Wieseckel; sisters: Mary Jane (Bob) Phillips, Elaine Popp; brother: James VanDaalwyk; brothers-in-law: Eugene (Agnes) Wieseckel, Clarence (Winnifred) Wieseckel; daughter-in-law: Paula VanDaalwyk and an infant grandson: Ryan Ott.

    The family would like to thank their many relatives and friends for the prayers and support offered to Butch and Mary Jane. Special thanks to the entire staff of the Atrium Post Acute Care, of Chilton, Calumet County Hospice, and Calumet Medical Center for the loving care they provided to our entire family and to Butch. You treated him as though he was your very own. Your kindness will never be forgotten.

    Funeral service for Butch will be held at 11:30am on Saturday, November 5, 2016 at St John Sacred Heart Church in St John, WI with Rev. Michael Betley officiating. Burial will follow in the Parish Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to gather at the church on Saturday morning from 9:00 am until 11:00am.
