  • Note: Ella Ahrens, 85, of Kimberly passed away on Tuesday, August 16, 2011 at home. Ella was born on April 1, 1926 to Anton and Lucia (VanDunn) Ermers in Kimberly and she graduated from Kimberly High School in 1944. She married Reginald Ahrens on May 7, 1949 at Holy Name in Kimberly and together they spent 63 wonderful years together. Ella was a secretary at Holy Name School for over 20 years until her retirement. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, reading, playing cards and volunteering at church. She also enjoyed bowling and biking, but most of all she loved spending time with her granddaughter Stephanie. She was a member of Holy Spirit Parish.

    Ella is survived by her husband Reginald, one son; Steven (Dawn) Ahrens of Appleton, a granddaughter; Stephanie, a sister; Mary Hein, a brother; Frank Ermers, two sisters-in-law; Erla Ermers and Esther Ermers, "special grand kids" Jason and Katie, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.

    Ella was preceded in death by her parents, and her siblings; George, Teddy, Dorothy, Tony, John, and Martin.

    The funeral liturgy for Ella will be held on Friday, August 19, 2011 at 12:00 PM at the HOLY SPIRIT PARISH (600 E. Kimberly Ave, Kimberly). Entombment will be in the Highland Memorial Park. A time of visitation will be held on Thursday, August 18, 2011 from 4:00 until 7:00 PM at the Jansen Fargo Funeral Home and on Friday from 11:00 AM until the time of the service at the church.

    Age 81, died on Monday, April 16, 2001 at his home, surrounded by his loving family, following a short illness. Clarence was born on November 6, 1919 in Appleton, son of the late Martin and Helen (Tennie) Hein. He married Mary Ermers on April 11, 1944, and together they have enjoyed 57 years of marriage. Clarence retired from Mid-Tec in 1982, where he was employed as a mill worker. He loved fishing, golfing, bowling and gardening. Clarence will be greatly missed by his wife Mary; three daughters, Patricia Berg and companion John Jenkel; Dianne (David) Dexter; and Mary Sue (Brian) Lee, all of Appleton; four brothers, Thomas Hein, LaCrosse; Florian (Rita) Hein; Jerry (Mary) Hein and Merlin (Ann) Hein, all of Appleton; three sisters, Delores Dexheimer; and Marie (Robert) Ferron, both of Appleton; Alice (Jerry) Plog, Green Bay; three granddaughters, Nancy (Jeremy) Schabow, Hartland, Wisconsin; Allison and Andrea Lee, both of Appleton; three grandsons, Thomas Dexter, Rochester, Minnesota; Jonathan Dexter, Taylor, Michigan; and Daniel Dexter, El Paso, Texas. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Clarence was preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Estella Hein; his brother-in-law, Harvey Dexheimer; his sister-in-law, Dorie Hein; and his son-in-law Gary W. Berg. The Funeral Service will be held at 11:30 a.m., on Thursday, April 19, 2001 at ST. PIUS X CATHOLIC CHURCH, 500 West Marquette Street, Appleton, with Father Donald Zuleger officiating. Interment will be at St. Joseph Cemetery, Appleton. Friends will be received at the church on Thursday, April 19 from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established to benefit cancer research.

    Age 65, died Monday, January 29, 1996 at St. Elizabeth Hospital. Pat was born September 25, 1930 in Appleton to the late Thomas and Cecelia [Klatt] Hardy. She was a homemaker.

    Survivors include a daughter, Denise Besaw, Appleton; three sons; Jeffrey [Betsy], Brian [Lisa], and Kevin, all of Appleton; four sisters; Geraldine [Matt] Rossmeissel, Appleton; Maxine [Don] Kramer, Appleton; Janette [Tom] Woods, Appleton; Ceil [Clay] LeMere, Winneconne; three brothers; Owen [Lyda] Hardy, Appleton; Frank [Sally] Hardy, Hortonville; Norbert Hardy, Appleton; a sister in-law, Ione Hardy, Appleton; six grandchildren; Katie, Alexander, Margaret Mary, Lucas, Travis and Aimee; a special friend, Otto Sonnleitner, Appleton.

    Pat was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas N. Hardy.

    Kramer, Maxine A. (Hardy) Maxine Ann Kramer, 80, of Appleton, went peacefully to be with the Lord February 25, 2006, at St. Elizabeth's Hospital. She was born to Thomas and Cecelia Hardy on New Years Day, 1926, and grew up on their family farm in the town of Ellington, WI. She graduated first in her class from Appleton West High School in 1943. At 19, she was first employed by the Federal Government with Agricultural Adjustment Agency and also held other jobs as a bookkeeper. Maxine and Don were first introduced by co-workers on a blind date. They were engaged on Valentine's Day and later married on June 2, 1951, at St. Joseph's Church in Appleton. Together they raised four children in Appleton and were blessed with eight beautiful grandchildren. Maxine was a fun-loving Irish girl. She loved music and dancing and kicking up her heels with the Stardusters Dance Club. She also enjoyed bridge club, golf outings, travel, History, British humor, flowers and sweet treats. Maxine and Don were founding members and active supporters of St. Bernadette Catholic Church. Her special interests were Serra Club, the Cursillo movement, Liturgy planning, Bible study and teaching religious education. Maxine volunteered as a "pink lady" at St. Elizabeth's Hospital. She loved welcoming newcomers to the area while employed with Select Welcome Service. However, most of her married life as a homemaker was spent raising her children and enjoying her grandchildren. Maxine encouraged, supported and provided for those in need. Her strong faith in God, a positive attitude and tenacious spirit helped her to overcome many challenges and struggles. She had a love for people and a zest for life. She will be deeply missed by her children: son, Mark Kramer and daughters, Teresa (Bill) Werner, Janet (Wayne) Hoffmann and Carole (Tom) Gulbransen and grandchildren: Laurie (Daniel) Holt, Michelle Werner: David, Emily and Margaret Hoffmann: Zachary, Hannah and Hailey Gulbransen. She is also survived by her brothers, Frank (Sally) Hardy, Norbert (Marge) Hardy; and sister, Janette (Tom) Woods. She was preceded in death by Donald, her husband of 54 years, and her sisters Geraldine (Matt) Rossmeissl, Patricia (Bob) Besaw, Cecelia (Clay) LeMere, and brothers Owen (Lyda) Hardy and Thomas (Ione) Hardy. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 2nd, at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 2331 E. Lourdes Dr., Appleton, at 11:30 a.m. with Rev. Don Zuleger officiating. The family will receive friends at the Wichmann Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 1st, from 4-8 p.m. followed by a prayer service at 8 p.m. Visitation will also be at the church on Thursday from 9:30-11:30 a.m. The interment will be at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Appleton.   • Note: Janette L. Woods, age 81, of Appleton, passed away peacefully on Easter Sunday, March 31, 2013. She was born on October 28, 1931, to the late Thomas and Cecelia Hardy and was a lifelong resident of Appleton. She married Thomas Woods on January 29, 1955, and they spent 58 wonderful years together. Janette always had a deep faith and was a lifelong member at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She greatly enjoyed volunteering at St. Patrick's bookstore and at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Janette always had a generous heart, and she and Tom were proud to help troubled young men find their way. She also enjoyed spending time vacationing in Florida and at Boulder Lake for many years. What Janette was truly passionate about though was her family. They were always the most important thing to her in her life, and she was always willing to do whatever she could to help. She will be truly missed.

    Janette is survived by her husband Thomas Woods; children: Colleen (Larry) Lueck, Michael (Antonet) Woods, and Timothy (Debbie) Woods; grandchildren: Aaron Woods, Andrea (Todd) Phillips, Jerrod Woods, James Woods, and Andrew Woods. She is further survived by her dear friends, Marie DeKeyser and Fr. Timon Costello, many nieces and nephews, and many dear friends. Janette was preceded in death by parents, Thomas and Cecelia; siblings: Geraldine Rossmeissl, Owen Hardy, Frank Hardy, Thomas Hardy, Maxine Kramer, Norbert Hardy, Mary Patricia Besaw, and Cecelia LeMere.

    Funeral liturgy for Janette will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 5, 2013, at SACRED HEART CATHOLIC CHURCH, 222 E. Fremont Street, Appleton with Fr. Don Zuleger officiating. Hours of visitation will be held at church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. She will be laid to rest privately at St. Mary's Cemetery, Appleton. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Janette's name.

    The family would like to extend a sincere thanks to the nurses at Heartland Health Care, St. Elizabeth's ICU and the 4th Floor, and Dr. Johnson for their compassionate care.

    Age 75, died on Monday, January 6, 1997 at his home after an unexpected illness. He was born on September 4, 1921 in Hortonville. Owen was an entrepreneur in the plastering trade starting his career as a manager for the Center Valley Feed Mill. He shared 52 years of marriage with Lyda Hardy [Duffek].

    Survivors include his beloved wife, Lyda; two sons; Tim and Jim [his special friend, Ginny Sommers], Appleton; two brothers and a sister in-law; Frank and Sally Hardy, Hortonville; Norbert Hardy, Appleton; four sisters and brothers in-law; Geraldine and Matt Rossmeissel, Appleton; Maxine and Don Kramer, Appleton; Janette and Tom Woods, Appleton; Ceil and Clay LeMere, Winneconne; a sister in-law, Ione Hardy, Appleton; five grandchildren; Chip, Shannon, Tony [Denise], Jason and Kelly; three great grandchildren; Amanda, Anthony and Joshua; and a special friend, Arnie Peck, New London.

    Owen was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas N. Hard; and a sister, Pat Besaw.

    The funeral liturgy for Owen will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 8, 1997, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Appleton with Father Wilbert Staudenmaier officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery. Friends may call at the church from 9:30 a.m. Wednesday until the time of the Mass.

  • Note: Frank Hardy, age 88 of Hortonville, died peacefully Tuesday morning, September 27, 2011, at Rennes Health and Rehabilitation in Appleton, WI.

    He was born on October 28, 1922, on the Hardy Homestead in the Township of Ellington, son of the late Thomas and Cecelia (Klatt) Hardy.

    Frank enlisted in the U.S. Military shortly after the Pearl Harbor bombing. He proudly served as a tech sergeant in the 101st Division, Airborne Paratroopers. Frank was honorably discharged in February of 1946.

    On June 29, 1948, he was united in marriage to Celestine "Sally" Griesbach. They farmed together in Outagamie County and raised their six children there. Frank often stated that the two things he was most proud of were that he married Sally Griesbach and served his country.

    Frank is survived by his children, Mary Lou (Ron) Breunig of Prarie du Sac; Kate Hardy (Tim Davis) of Fitchburg; Kathy Gelinas of Kalispel, MT; Bob (Penny) Hardy of Columbia Falls, MT; John (Wendy) Hardy of Hortonville; and Bernadette (Gary) Bomber of Mackville; daughter-in-law, Kathy Galinas, Kalispel, MT; 11 grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; sister, Janette; and sister-in-law, Ione.

    He was preceded in death by his "true love," Sally, wife and loving partner of 60 years; son, Bill; parents; sisters, Geraldine, Maxine, Pat, and Cecelia; brother, Norbert, Owen, and Thomas.

    The Mass of Christian Burial for Frank will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, September 30, 2011, at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception, N2385 Municipal Dr., Greenville, with Fr. Mark Vander Steeg and Fr. Justin Werner officiating. Family and friends may call directly at church Friday afternoon from 12:30 p.m. until the time of service. A private family interment will be in St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery in Stephensville at a later date.

    The family would like to thank all of the home caregivers who made it possible for Frank to remain in the family home until his passing.

  • Note: Norbert, age 84, died Sunday. He was preceded in death by wife Marjorie J. Hardy (Huth), son Jeffrey, grandson Jamie Gregory. Norbert had very strong faith and beliefs we will all be together again in Heaven. Dad would say, "Don't forget to say your prayers."

    A memorial service will be held at Riverside Cemetery Friday, May 27, at 2 p.m. outside near burial plot. Memorial fund has been established.

    Kramer, Donald Francis Kramer, Donald Francis, 82, of Appleton, went peacefully to be with the Lord after a lengthy illness of Parkinson's disease on November 6, 2005. He was born August 11, 1923, in Green Bay, to Edward J. and Agnes Kramer. Don was a graduate of Green Bay West High School, and St. Norbert's College in DePere. Don enlisted in the army and served in the 69th infantry in Europe during World War II. He was married to Maxine A. Hardy on June 2, 1951. Don began his career as a dairy chemist for Western Condensing Co. (Foremost Dairies). He worked as a paper chemist for 26 years at Thilmany Pulp and Paper Co. where he retired in 1988. During that time, Don was issued a U.S. patent for grain doors. Also, as a chemist, he was actively involved in the drive to fluoridate Appleton's city water. Since its beginning, Don was an active member of St. Bernadette Catholic Church. Some of the areas of service to the church include communion distributor, funeral accolade, RCIA instructor (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults), usher, parish council member, finance committee member, and fund-raiser. He also worked in the Cursillo and Renew programs. He enjoyed dance club, golfing, crossword puzzles, cryptoquotes, wine making, and baking apple pies. He was a member of Toastmasters and Thilmany's Management Club. Don was a peaceful man, characterized by his kindness, generosity, faithfulness, a quiet, and gentle spirit, and his faith in God. He was a good husband and father, who enjoyed spending time with his wife and children. Don is survived by his wife of 54 years, Maxine Anne, four children and eight grandchildren: son Mark Kramer, and daughters Teresa (Bill) Werner, Janet (Wayne) Hoffmann, and Carole (Tom) Gulbransen. Don is also survived by eight grandchildren Laurie (Daniel) Holt and Michelle Werner; David, Emily, and Margaret Hoffman; and Zachary, Hannah, and Hailey Gulbransen. He is further survived by his brother Reginald (Jean) Kramer, and his twin sister Doris (Jim) Masse. He is preceded in death by his brother Jim (Marcy) Kramer. Of his in-laws, he is survived by Frank (Sally) Hardy, Norbert (Marge) Hardy, Janette (Tom) Woods. He is preceded in death by Geraldine (Matt) Rossmeissl, Owen (Lyda) Hardy, Tom (Ione) Hardy, Patricia (Bob) Besaw, and Cecelia (Clay) LeMere. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m., on Friday, November 11, 2005, at ST. BERNADETTE CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2331 East Lourdes Drive, Appleton, with Rev. Don Zuleger officiating. The family will receive friends at the Wichmann Funeral Home, on Thursday, November 10, from 4-7 p.m. and again at the church on Friday, from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service. A prayer service will be held at the funeral home on Thursday at 7 p.m. The interment will be held at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, Appleton. A memorial fund will be established in his name. The family sends special thanks to all the caregivers at Parkside Care Center, who cared for Don these last four years.
