  • Note: Bonnie K. Kersten, age 69, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 11, 2015 with her family by her side. She was born on January 6, 1946 to Adolph and Edith (Goettlicher) Krueger. She was received into Christ's Kingdom of Grace through Holy Baptism on January 27, 1946. After being instructed in the truths of God's Word, she was confirmed on April 10, 1960. Bonnie attended St. Paul Lutheran School and graduated from Fox Valley Lutheran in 1964. She married Raymond Kersten on May 31, 1969 and they spent 46 years together. Bonnie was a lifelong member at St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church in Appleton. She enjoyed working at the church's School Office for 25 years and the Childcare Center for 2 years.

    Bonnie loved to play the accordion and organ for friends and family. She enjoyed gardening, traveling, and supporting the Lutheran Vanguard of Wisconsin Marching Band. Bonnie was an avid Packer fan and was proud to be able to attend the Ice Bowl. She was loved dearly by her family and friends, and she will be greatly missed.

    She is survived by her husband Ray Kersten, Appleton; daughter Janet (boyfriend Bob Tegge) Kersten, Appleton; brothers and sisters-in-law: Leta Krueger, Greenville; Charlotte (Adolph) Bloy, Kaukauna; Joan Jaeckels, Kaukauna; Marion Zwick, Montana; Clarence Bowers, Kaukauna; Betty Kersten, Appleton; Bob (Mary) Kersten, Mountain; and Mike (Carrie) Kersten, Florida; many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends. Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents; brother Charles Krueger; mother and father-in-law Josephine and Albert Kersten; sister-in-law, Nancy Bowers; and brother-in-law Jim Jaeckels.

    The funeral service for Bonnie will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday August 15, 2015 at ST. PAUL EV. LUTHERAN CHURCH, 302 N. Morrison Street, Appleton, with Rev. Kenneth L. Frey officiating. A time of visitation will be held at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service. She will be laid to rest at Highland Memorial Park.

    Bonnie's family would like to thank Community Care and ThedaCare Hospice for all of their wonderful care.

    Van Lieshout, Leo Fredrick Leo Fredrick Van Lieshout, 66, town of Scott, died unexpectedly Friday, Aug. 18, 2006, at a local hospital after a massive heart attack. Born in the town of Scott, March 14, 1940, to the late Fred and Cecelia (Liebergen) Van Lieshout. He married the former Marlene Van Lanen May 30, 1964, at St. Joseph Church, Oneida. Leo was the fourth generation to farm the family homestead. He was with the New Franken Fire Department for a total of 33 years, lieutenant for a number of years, and chief for the last 10 years. Leo and his wife were active members of Holy Cross, Bay Settlement where Leo served as the sexton/gravedigger for the last 33 years. He was instrumental in many organizations including, the first president of FFA at Preble High School and active in the FFA Alumni Association, a founder of the Holy Cross Parish Council, one of the founding fathers of the Royal Scotties 4H Club, on the advisory Board for Green Bay School District, a member and president of the Charolais Beef Association, Brown County Fire Chiefs Association, Door/Kewaunee Fire Chiefs Association and the State of Wisconsin Fire Chiefs Association. Leo had a deep love for his family and friends and enjoyed being with people especially with his grandchildren. He and his wife loved going for car rides together. Leo also enjoyed NASCAR, the Green Bay Packers and tinkering with his John Deere tractors.

    He is survived by his wife, Marlene, town of Scott; three daughters and sons-in-law, Linda (Greg) Kalz , Nancy (Doug) Van Dreel, all of Green Bay; Karen (William) Reimer, De Pere; eight grandchildren, Andy, Alexander, and Emily Kalz, Bridget and Blake Van Dreel, Jarod, Marissa and Jill Reimer; four brothers-in-law and three spouses, John (Bonnie) Van Lanen, David (Nadine) Van Lanen, Steve (Debbie) Van Lanen, and Mark Van Lanen; sister-in-law and spouse, Joyce (William) La Count; many nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by many other family members and friends.

    Preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ray (Alvina) Van Lanen.

    Visitation at MALCORE Funeral Home, University Avenue at Baird Street, Tuesday from 3 to 8 p.m. Parish wake service 8 p.m. Tuesday evening. Visitation to continue Wednesday morning at Holy Cross Church, 3009 Bay Settlement Road, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral. Funeral mass 11 a.m. at the church with Rev. Ralph Merkatoris officiating. Entombment at Shrine of the Good Shepherd.
