    VAN LAANEN RITES TO BE HELD MONDAY

    Various organizations will pay tribute to Mrs. Frank J. Van Laanen, one of Green Bay's [opmeer and most active clubwomen, who died suddenly at her home, 636 S. Jackson St., Thursday night following a heart attack. At 3 o'clock this afternoon the War Mothers held a memorial service at 3:30 the Past Presidents group of the Catholic Womens club will recite the rosary and at 4 o'clock the Catholic Women's club said the rosary. Members of the Auxiliary to St. Mary's Mother's and Infants home will meet at 7:30 tonight to recite the rosary. Members of the Nazareth Guild to St. Joseph's Orphange will meet at the Van Laanen home at 4 o'clock Sunday afternoon to recite the rosary.

    Funeral services will be conducted at 9 o'clock Monday morning in St. John's Church with burial in Allouez Cemetery. Schauer and Schumacher funeral home is in charge.

    Mrs. Van Laanen's grandsons, Vance and Frank Middleton, Ripon, have been granted leaves and arrived this afternoon. Vance is stationed with the United States Coast Guard in Portland, Maine, and Frank, an Army Aviation Cadet, is stationed with in Newport, Arkansas.

    Long illness fatal to Hugh Van Laanen

    Hugh Van Laanen, Rt. 1, died Sunday afternoon at his home following an extended illness. He was 74 years old, and a life-long resident of Bay Settlement.

    Besides his wife, the deceased is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Florence Briennen, at home and Mrs. Gordon Wallenfang of Knoxville, Tennessee; four sons, Walter and Elmer of Green Bay, and Norman and Lawrence of Green Bay, Rt. 1; brothers, F.J. Van Laanen of Green Bay, Ed of Minneapolis, Minnesota; and John, Rt. 1; three sisters, Mrs. Verbaeten of Wrightstown; Mrs. Mary Marchant of Green Bay; and Mrs. Elizabeth Dennis of Chicago.

    The body is at Schauer and Schumacher Funeral Home where the rosary will be recited at 8 o'clock this evening. Funeral services will be held at 9 o'clock Thursday morning at the Holy Cross Church, Bay Settlement, with burial in the church cemetery.

    Lifelong Resident of Bay Settlement Dies

    Mrs. Hugh Van Laanen, 80, lifelong of Bay Settlement, died in a Green Bay Hospital Tuesday afternoon. Her husband died August 1940. Mrs. Van Laanen is the former Harriet De Leers.

    Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Florence Brienen and Mrs. Gordon Wallenfang, Green Bay; four sons, Walter, Al E., Norman and Lawrence, Green Bay; 20 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. W.H. Barlament and Mrs. Louis De Grave, Milwaukee; and a brother, A.J. De Leers, Marinette.

    The body is at the Schauer and Schumacher Funeral Home where the rosary will be said at 7:30 tonight and Thursday. The Rev. John W. De Vries will offer the Requiem Mass in Holy Cross Church at 10 o'clock Friday morning. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

    [ husband's death was August 13, 1944, the first two sisters mentioned, Florence Brienen and Mrs. Gordon [Hilda ] Wallenfang were her daughters.].

    John Van Ess

    John Van Ess, formerly a machinist at the Green Bay & Western Railroad shops, died at North Fond du Lac at 1 o'clock Sunday afternoon from the effects of pneumonia.

    The remains were brought here and the funeral services were held Wednesday morning at 9:30 o'clock at St. Patrick's church. Interment followed at Fort Howard Cemetery.

    His wife and four children are left to mourn his death. Besides them he leaves his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Van Ess of Humboldt; five brothers; Ferdinand, Frank and Joseph Van Ess of Humboldt; Anton and Louis Van Ess of Green Bay; aslo four sisters; Mrs. Pierbe, of Beloit; Mrs. George Zeutzius; Mrs. William M. Coppens and Mrs. William DeWitt of Green Bay.
