  • Note: RACINE - Margaret Lorraine Verbeten Highman, 86, passed away at her residence on Wednesday, January 17, 2001. Margaret was born in Racine on February 24, 1914, daughter of the late John E. and Edna Lynch Verbeten and was a lifelong Racine resident.

    On November 26, 1938, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, she was united in marriage to Henry B. Highman, who preceded her in death on December 16, 1996.

    Margaret was a proud graduate and member of the band at St. Catherine's High School. Margaret was a member of St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church, where she also belonged to Christian Mothers and the Mission Club. She was also a member of Circle 8 Square Dance Club and Sisters and Friends Club. Most of all, Margaret was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who will be sadly missed.

    Survivors include her four sons, Tom (Marilyn) Highman, Stephen Highman, Roger (Dottie) Highman, and David Highman; her five daughters, Lorraine Zinke, Janice Highman, Mary (Daniel) Peltier, Sarah Jane (Butch) Matsen, and Phyllis Gandee; 25 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Clarice (Ronald) Gall and Ruth (Bill) Vanderhoef; brother-in-law, Robert Highman; sisters-in-law, Karen Verbeten and Lily (Oliver) MacKnight; and nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many dear friends.

    In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by her son, Gerald Highman; son-in-law, Bill Zinke; two brothers, Joseph and Edward Verbeten; and three sisters, Rosemary, Joyce, and Evelyn.

    A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church, 1903 Green Street, on Friday, January 19, 2001, at 6 p.m. with Rev. Thomas F. Lijewski officiating. Entombment will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery on Highway 32 on Saturday at 11:45 a.m. Relatives and friends met with the family at the church on Friday from 4 p.m. until time of Mass. Margaret was truly blessed to have special people in her life who cared for her at home.

    Mr. Highman was born in Copenhagen, Denmark on July 29, 1910, son of the late Robert O. and Anna Hansen Highman. On November 26, 1938, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Racine, he was united in marriage to Margaret L. Verbeten.

    He was employed by S.C. Johnson and Son for 38 years. Mr. Highman was a member of St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church, Catholic Order of Foresters, Johnson Wax "20 Year Club", and Camping Club. He loved playing cards and bowling.

    Survivors include his wife, Margaret L. Highman; his sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas (Marilyn) Highman of Racine, Stephen Highman of Elmwood, Roger (Dottie) Highman of Racine, Gerald Highman of Racine, and David (Tina) Highman of Hurley; his daughters and sons-in-law, Lorraine (William) Zinke, Janice Highman, Mary (Daniel) Peltier, Sarah Jane (Elmer) Matsen, and Phyllis Gandee, all of Racine; 25 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; his brothers, Herman Highman and Robert Highman, both of Racine; his sister and brother-in-law, Lily (Ollie) MacKnight of Racine; brothers-in-laws and sisters-in-law, Ruth Highman, Evelyn Bislew, Ruth (Willis) Vanderhoef, Clarice (Ronald) Gall, and Edward (Karen) Verbeten, all of Racine; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.

    He was preceded in death by his brothers, George and Art; his sisters, Rose DeGarmo, Esther Pedersen, and Viola Burmeister.

    A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church, 700 English Street, on Friday, December 20, 1996, at 11:30 a.m. with Rev. Thomas Lijewski officiating. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Garden Mausoleum, Highway 32. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home on Thursday from 5 until 8 p.m. and on Friday at the church from 11 a.m. until time of service.

    The family would like to thank Dr. Schulgit, St. Mary's Hospital staff, and the Hospice program for providing Henry the dignity he so deserved.

    Our deepest appreciation to Beverly Harris, Ruth Nesby, Gloria Harcus, and Mary Prochniak for the loving care and faithful support that enabled us to keep our parents together for so many years. We will be forever grateful.

  • Death: She died on June 17, 2013, at age 54.
  • Note: Jacqueline Marie Wettstein, age 54, passed away peacefully on June 17th, 2013 at Sharon S. Richardson Hospice Center, after a long year and a half battle with pancreatic cancer.

    She enjoyed her wildlife, fishing, camping, picnics, her cats and enjoyed spending time with her granddaughter. She was born on December 29, 1958 in Kaukauna, WI to Lorraine Van Gompel and the late Ronald Wettstein. She grew up in Little Chute, WI ., and attended Little Chute High School.

    Jacqueline is survived by her daughter: Sandy Freund, Sons: David Schneider and Sam Schneider, Granddaughter: Alayna Freund, Sisters: Peggy Christel, Sue Sabel and Hope Alumbaugh, Brothers: David Wettstein and Mike Van Gompel, Her mother: Lorraine Van Gompel, Many aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.

    She was preceded in death by her father: Ronald Wettstein, Step father: Robert Van Gompel and baby brother: Todd.

    She will be dearly missed but never forgotten.

    Showing will be held on Saturday Evening, (June 22nd), from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. with services to follow at 7:00 P.M. at the Suchon Funeral Home in Plymouth. Father Wayne Bittner will officiate. Cremation will follow the services.

    Friends may call at the Suchon Funeral Home from 4:00 P.M. on Saturday Afternoon until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in Jackie's name.
