  • Note: Eugene M. Onkels, 79, Kaukauna died on Friday, March 18, 2011, at Appleton Medical Center. He was born on Oct. 25, 1931, in Kaukauna, son of the late Oscar and Johanna (Verkuilen) Onkels. Eugene served as a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army from 1948 to 1952. On Aug. 4, 1953, Eugene married the former Eunice Arnoldussen at St. Mary Catholic Church in Kaukauna. The couple enjoyed 45 years of marriage together prior to her death on Jan. 4, 1999.

    Eugene was a master carpenter and also worked at Appleton Papers in Combined Locks as a machine tender for 45 years. He was an avid Packers fan and enjoyed trips to the casino to play the poker machines. Eugene was a member of St. Katharine Drexel Parish at St. Mary Church.

    He will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, great-grandpa, brother and brother-in-law. He taught family values and was an excellent provider to his family.

    Survivors include his children, Richard, Milwaukee, and his children, Karl and Kassie; Mike (Kathy), Kaukauna, and their children, Christy and Marcus; Ronnie (Laurie), Kenosha; Connie (Hale) Jahn, Portage, and their children, Tanya, Dawn and Jacquelyne; Linda (Doug) Klemp, Appleton, and their daughter, Amanda; Mary (Tom) Paulson, Kaukauna, and their children, Sarah, Nicholas and Erik; Angie Onkels, Texas, and her daughter, Jessica; ten great-grandchildren; one brother and two sisters-in-law, Robert (Jan) Onkels, Kaukauna; and Gerry Onkels, Appleton; and a sister, Jane Hacker, Sturgeon Bay. He is further survived by his wife's family, Marvin and Phyllis Van Deraa, Pat, Jan, Joe, Ervin and Donna, Dale and Mary, and Sr. Mary Arnoldussen, Marvin Hartzheim; numerous nieces and nephews.

    He was preceded in death by a son, Donald, in 1976; a brother, Melvin "Bud"; and a brother-in-law, Ralph Hacker. Eugene is further preceded in death by his wife's family, John (Joyce) Arnoldussen, Gladys (Gus) Sacks, Bernice (Ben) Harris, Gerald, Clayton, Carol and Kathy Arnoldussen, Jenny Hartzheim, Theresa (Walter) Rosenthal and Frank Effa.

    The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 22, 2011, at ST. KATHARINE DREXEL PARISH at ST. MARY CHURCH, 119 W. 7th St., Kaukauna, with Fr. Jerry Pastors officiating. Friends will be received on Monday, March 21, 2011, at BOETTCHER FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 2401 Fieldcrest Dr., Kaukauna, from 5 to 8 p.m., with a parish prayer service at 8 p.m. concluding the evening. Friends may call again directly at church on Tuesday from 9 a.m. until the time of service. Full Military Rites will take place following services at church.

    Kaukauna

    Age 76, passed away on Saturday, October 13, 2012 following years of complications with diabetes and heart and vascular disease. He was born on September 2, 1936 in Kaukauna, son of the late Martin, Sr. and Minnie (Sanderfoot) Van Deraa. Marvin married Phyllis Arnoldussen on July 7, 1955. Marvin was a farm laborer, worked at Badger Tissue, and later employed by the Kaukauna Street Department until he had to take a disability retirement at the age of 58. He enjoyed playing sheepshead with family, and gambling on the slot machines in the casinos of Las Vegas and Wendover, NV as well as the local Wisconsin casinos even after suffering a major stroke a few years ago.

    He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Phyllis; a daughter, Christine Hoh (Mark); three sons: Keith and wife Lisa (Schafer), Tracy and friend (Deb Shippy), and Kevin and wife Sandy (Haring); grandsons: Thomas Hoh (Lucy), James Schafer (Amanda), Danny Schafer, Adam Schafer (fiancé Shanna), Justin Van Deraa; granddaughters: Trisha Schneider (Matthew), Tiffany Jankowski (Chad); greatgrandchildren: Matthew, Stephanie, Nyssa, Nyles, Nygel, Travis, Ellie, Ava, Samantha, Grace, Owen, and Emma. Marvin is further survived by sisters: Rose Ann (Donald Huben), Elizabeth (John Schmitz), Barbara (Randy Moehr), and Judith (Marvin Vande Voort); brothers: Jerome Van Deraa (Lorraine) and Gerald Van Deraa (Jeanie); three sisters-in-law: Theresa, Leona, and Joyce Van Deraa; his wife's family: Joseph, Ervin (Donna), Dale (Mary), and Sister Mary Arnoldussen; sisters-in-law: Patricia and Jan Arnoldussen; a brother-in-law, Marvin Hartzheim; and many nieces and nephews.

    Preceding him in death were his parents: Minnie and Martin, Sr.; brothers: Donald, James, and Martin, Jr.; an infant sister, Barbara; two nephews: Dean and Darryl Van Deraa; his wife's family: John and Joyce Arnoldussen, Gladys and Gus Sack, Bernice and Ben Harris, Walter and Theresa Rosenthal, Frank Effa, Eunice and Gene Onkels, Jenny Hartzheim, Gerald, Clayton, Carol, and Kathy Arnoldussen, and special Foster Parents, Pete and Mary Onkels.

    The Mass of Christian Burial for Marvin will be held at 11AM on Tuesday, October 16, 2012 at ST. KATHARINE DREXEL PARISH @ ST. MARY CHURCH, 119 West Seventh St., Kaukauna with Fr. Jerry Pastors celebrating. Interment will be in St. Mary Cemetery. Family and friends will be received at the Boettcher Family Funeral Home, 2401 Fieldcrest Dr., Kaukauna on Monday from 4-8PM where there will be a parish prayer service held at 7PM and at the church on Tuesday from 9AM until the time of the mass. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund in Marvin's name is being established.

  • Note: Thomas "Tom" Bowers Greenleaf Age 47, died Sunday, January 9, 2000, as the result of an accident. The son of Ralph and Frances "Frankie" (Simon) Bowers was born January 1, 1953, in Green Bay. He married Karen Gagnow on June 7, 1975, at St. Paul Catholic Church in Wrightstown. He worked at Badger Northland for 22 years and then for the past three years at Thilmany Paper Company. He raced street stock cars at various area race tracks. Tom loved living in the country and enjoyed the outdoors. Survivors include his wife, Karen a daughter, Erica and her special friend, Scott Wilson a brother, Jack (Jean) Bowers, Kaukauna three sisters, Betty Kolosso and her special friend, Jim, Neenah Jan Vande Hey and her special friend, Rod, Kaukauna Alice (Roger "Duke") Brooks, Kaukauna 24 nieces and nephews. Tom is also survived by Karen's family his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Robert "Bob" Sr. and Rachel Gagnow, Seymour brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Robert Jr. and Karen Gagnow, Kaukauna Gail and Carter Timm, Redgranite Rick and Debbie Gagnow, Seymour Randy and Kelly Gagnow, Freedom. He was preceded in death by his parents a son, Rex, and two infant nieces. Family and friends may call at DeWane/Cotter Funeral Home, 711 Main Street, Wrightstown, from 4 until 8 p.m. Tuesday. Prayer service 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. Visitation will continue on Wednesday from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, Greenleaf.   • Note: Jean A. Bowers, (nee Frank), Kaukauna, age 79, passed away on Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at St. Elizabeth Hospital following a lengthy illness. She was born March 5, 1934 in Kaukauna, daughter of the late Gordon and Mary (Van Dyke) Frank. On June 17, 1954, Jean married John "Jack" Bowers at Holy Cross Catholic Church. The couple lived in Kaukauna their entire married lives. They enjoyed 45 years of marriage together prior to his death on March 29, 2000. Jean loved cooking and loved watching the wildlife. She was a longtime member of Holy Cross Catholic Church. She is survived by 3 sons: Bruce (Bonita "Bonnie") Bowers, Kaukauna and their daughters, Heidi (Nels) Van Dyn Hoven and Becky (Adam) Spoehr, Dennis, Kaukauna and his children, Luke (special friend Leslie) and Laura (Josh) Nackers, and Allen "Elmer", Kaukauna; 3 great-grandchildren and "Baby Spoehr" on the way: Landen and Dominic Van Dyn Hoven and Lexi Bowers; 2 sisters; 2 brothers; numerous nieces, nephews and in-laws. She was preceded in death by husband, an infant daughter, Wanda Lou Bowers and 1 brother. The Mass of Christian Burial for Jean will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 19, 2013 at HOLY CROSS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 309 Desnoyer St., Kaukauna with Fr. Tom Pomeroy officiating.     Kolosso, Sr., Jerome E. "Butch"
    Jerome E. Kolosso, Sr., age 73, of Kaukauna, passed away on Saturday evening, April 11, 2009, at St. Elizabeth Hospital. He was born on January 19, 1936, son of the late Robert Sr. and Stella (Ehlers) Kolosso. After high school Butch proudly served his country with the U.S. Army. He was married to Elizabeth "Betty" Bowers-Kolosso, and later was married to Cookie Merrill. Butch was the owner of Kolosso Auto Service for over 20 years, retiring in 1996, and in 1998 he bought the Lake Park Pub, along with his son, Butch Jr.
    In years past, Butch belonged to the Moose Lodge, Jaycees, and sat on the Board of Directors for the Americanos Drum and Bugle Corps. He enjoyed working on cars, playing sheephead, boating, and bowling.
    He will be sadly missed by his children: Lisa Kolosso, Verona; Lori (Mark) Steger, Appleton; Jerome Jr. "Butch" Kolosso, Appleton; grandson, Andrew Meier, Verona; siblings: Patricia (John) Schreiter, Donald (Joan), Irene Cagle; sister-in-law, JoAnn Kolosso; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant granddaughter, Megan Meier; brother, Robert; and brother-in-law, George Cagle.
    Funeral services for Butch will be held on Thursday, April 16, 2009, at 6:30 p.m. at the Wichmann Funeral Home Tri-County Chapel with Deacon Maury Reed officiating. Friends will be received at the funeral home from 2:30 p.m. until the time of the service. Following the funeral service, the celebration of Butch's life will continue at Lake Park Pub. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Appleton. In lieu of flowers, donations are appreciated in Butch's name to The St. Paul Villa in Kaukauna.
    The family would like to thank the staffs of St. Paul Villa and the Critical Care Unit at St. Elizabeth Hospital for their care and concern.
