John Francis Hart

  • Note: John F. Hart Wrightstown Age 89, peacefully went to be with the Lord and his beloved wife, Agnes on Thursday, February 18, 1999 after a short illness. The son of the late John J. and Anna (Martin) Hart was born May 21, 1909 in Askeaton. He attended Askeaton Grade School and Brillion High School, taking over the family farm in 1927. John married the former Agnes Giesbers on April 22, 1932 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Kaukauna. Together they farmed in Askeaton until retirement and moved to Wrightstown in 1977. They celebrated 62 years of marriage before Agnes died in November of 1994. John was a member of both St. Patrick's and St. Paul's Holy Name Society. John was very active on various committees in St. Pat's Parish and School, De Pere Holy Name Deanary and was a member of the Hibernian Club. He also served as Holland Town Clerk from 1951-1967 Holland Town Chairman from 1967-1977 Brown County Supervisor from 1968-1984 and Wrightstown Village Board of Trustree from 1985-1991. During his retirement, John wrote a book entitled "Askeaton, From The Old Sod To The New" -a history of how the Irish settled in the Askeaton area from Askeaton, Ireland and the history of the Town of Holland from 1848-1979, including church, school and the Town and how Hollandtown got it's name. His Irish heritage was very special to him and he visited Ireland, and his relatives in 1988 and again in 1995 with his daughters and sons-in-law. Survivors include four daughters and sons-in-law: Phyllis and Jim Hoogland, Green Bay Patricia and Arlyn Meulemans, Fond du Lac Karen and Vern Demerath, Wrightstown Noreen and Don Van Zeeland, Kaukauna 14 grandchildren: Donna (Don) Morey, Diane (Dan) Moesch, Mary (Charles) Sturdivant, Carol (Joe) Richardson, Tom Meulemans, Terry (Nancy) Meulemans, Steve (Lesa) Meulemans, Barb (John) Rotzenberg, Lynn (Dan) Buechler, Mike (Mary) Demerath, Sharon (John) Westphal, Mark (Erin) Van Zeeland, Jeff (Fiance, Tracy Berwig) Van Zeeland and Corey Van Zeeland 20 great-grandchildren, a brother-in-law, Norman Piegeon, many nieces, nephews and a very special caretaker, Ann Ehnerd. He was preceded in death by a brother and four sisters. Friends may call at De Wane-Cotter Funeral Home, 711 Main Street, Wrightstown on Friday from 4-9 p.m. Parish Prayer Service Friday evening at 8 p.m. at the funeral home. The visitation will continue after 9 a.m. Saturday morning at the funeral home until the cortege leaves for church. Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, February 20, 1999 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Wrightstown with the Rev. Elroy E. Reimer officiating. Burial at St. Patrick's Cemetery, Askeaton. In memory of dad's great love for children and in lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established for St. Paul Catholic School. The family would like to thank Dr. John Warren, Dr.

    Mark Hendricks, all the wonderful nurses at Bellin Hsspital, 2 South and the staff at Rennes Health Center, De Pere. Also the Reverends Elroy Reimer, Richard Shafer, Leroy Hogan, Al Geiser and Carl Melemans. Your loving care and kindness will never be forgotten. Dad, we love you and will miss you.   • Note: Richard H. Van Zeeland, age 82, of Kaukauna, passed away at ThedaCare Hospice Residence on Wednesday, May 18, 2011, with his family at his side. Rich was born on April 1, 1929, in the Town of Vandenbroek to the late Henry M. and Minnie (Bongers) Van Zeeland. Rich married Elizabeth Verhasselt on October 14, 1950, in Kaukauna. She preceded him in death on June 27, 2009. With his wife Betty, he enjoyed travel and bus tours, time at the cottage near Lakewood with family and friends, attending his grandsons' football and basketball games, and spending time with his great-grandchildren. Rich was also an avid Green Bay Packers fan and was elated to see the Packers win the Super Bowl this year. Rich proudly served his country in the United States Army in Alaska from 1951 to 1953 and was a member of the VFW Kaukauna Electric City Post #3319. He was employed for over 41 years at Thilmany Pulp and Paper Mill as a Rewinder Operator/Fire Response Team member, retiring in 1991.

    Survivors include his children, Linda Van De Hey, Kaukauna, and Steve (Deb) Van Zeeland, Kaukauna; his grandchildren, Stephanie (Arvid) Skrede, Kaukauna; Matthew Van Zeeland (special friend, Amy Reidenbach), Appleton, and Adam Van Zeeland (special friend, Molly Bouressa), Appleton; his great-grandchildren, Alexis and Spencer Skrede and his soon-to-be great-granddaughter, Alizabeth; his twin brother, Robert Van Zeeland, and his brother, Cyril (JoAnn) Van Zeeland. Rich is further survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and numerous friends.

    He was preceded in death by his son, Ronald Van Zeeland.

    The Funeral Liturgy will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 21, 2011, at ST. KATHERINE DREXEL PARISH—ST ALOYSIUS CHURCH, 2101 Main Avenue, Kaukauna, with Fr. Jerry Pastors officiating. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. and again directly at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of services. There will be a Parish Prayer and Scripture Service at the funeral home on Friday at 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to benefit the American Cancer Society and the ThedaCare Hospice Foundation.

    The family would like to offer their sincere thanks to staff at Cherry Meadows and especially ThedaCare Hospice Residence where they treated Rich "like a king."

    Betty Van Zeeland, Kaukauna,79, passed away Saturday, June 27, 2009, at the Darboy Living Center following a four-year battle with Alzheimer's disease. Betty was born in Kaukauna on June 29, 1929, daughter of the late Isadore and Josephine (Meulemans) Verhasselt. She graduated from the Kaukauna High School, and on October 14, 1950, married Richard Van Zeeland. For over thirty years Betty worked as the bookkeeper for Van Zeeland Oil and Heating, and in her retirement also worked part-time in the bakery at Larry's Piggly Wiggly. She enjoyed travel and bus tours with Rich, time at the cottage near Lakewood with family and friends, attending her grandsons' football and basketball games, making quilts with her sister and selling them at the Lakewood craft sale, collecting dolls, shot glasses, bells, and coins, and loved to listen to country western music.

    She is survived by her husband, Rich Van Zeeland, Kaukauna; a son, Steve (Deb) Van Zeeland, Appleton; a daughter, Linda VanDeHey, Kaukauna; three grandchildren, Matthew Van Zeeland and his special friend Amy, Adam Van Zeeland, and Stephanie (Arvid) Skrede and their daughter Alexis. She is also survived by eleven brothers and sisters, Len (Joyce) Verhasselt, Kaukauna; Rose (Jerry) Vande Burgt, Sherwood; Joe (JoAnne) Verhasselt, DePere; Agnes (Clayton) Vande Burgt, Little Chute; Jim "Butch" (Marilyn) Verhasselt, Kaukauna; Bob (Evelyn) Verhasselt of Kaukauna; Earl (Delores) Verhasselt, Kaukauna; Dorothy (Ted) Vosters, Kaukauna; Fr. Dave Verhasselt, Mayville; Tom (Terri) Verhasselt, Hortonville, and Pat (Bill) Brockman of Mackville. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, infant twin sisters, and a son Ronald in 1985.

    The funeral liturgy for Betty will be held on Wednesday, July 1, 2009, at 11 a.m. at ST. KATHARINE DREXEL PARISH — ST. AL'S SITE, 2401 Main Avenue in Kaukauna with Fr. Jerry Pastors officiating. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday after 4 p.m. and again Wednesday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Visiting hours Tuesday will conclude with a parish prayer service at 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested that memorials be directed to the Alzheimer's Association.

    The family would like to offer their sincere thanks to all of the caregivers at the Darboy Living Center for taking such good care of Betty the past three and a half years. She could have been in no better hands. We will always be grateful for your kindness.

    Van Zeeland, Mary E. Mary Van Zeeland, Kaukauna, 77, was born to eternal life on her birthday, Saturday, Dec. 8, 2007, at Appleton Medical Center. She was born Dec. 8, 1930, in Wrightstown, the daughter of the late Louis and Anna (Berken) Vander Bloemen. On June 30, 1951, she married Robert Van Zeeland at St. Mary Catholic Church in Crivitz. Mary was a very active member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, volunteer at Holy Name Retreat House at Chambers Island and various schools and libraries. She enjoyed baking, gardening and crafts. Mary loved spending time with her grandchildren.

    Mary is survived by her loving husband, Robert Van Zeeland, Kaukauna; children, Ann (Paul) Drzewiecki, New London; Robin (Terry) Van Zeeland, Kaukauna; and Wayne (Sue) Van Zeeland, Little Chute; grandchildren, Jason Drzewiecki and Jill (Austin) Rios; Ruth, Rachel and Ryan Van Zeeland; Andy and Benjamin Van Zeeland; great-granddaughter, Aja Rios; sister, Norella Jahnke, Crivitz; sister-in-law, Darlene Vander Bloemen, Crivitz; brothers-in-law, Richard (Betty) Van Zeeland, Kaukauna; and Cyril (Joanne) Van Zeeland, Combined Locks. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

    Mary was preceded in death by her brother, Louis Vander Bloemen, and brother-in-law, Donald Jahnke.

    The funeral liturgy for Mary will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2007, at HOLY CROSS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 309 Desnoyer Street, Kaukauna, with Fr. Jim Lucas officiating. Burial will take place at the parish cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday at the Fargo Funeral Home from 4 to 7 p.m. and again on Tuesday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.

    In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in her name.
