    Age 59, died unexpectedly Friday, October 23, 1992. He was born October 27, 1932 in Appleton, the son of the late Urban and Alma [Ramer] Vander Velden. Dick was a graduate of Appleton High School in 1950 and then served in with the U.S. Navy for three years. He retired in 1988 from Kimberly Clark after 37 years in Transportation. He enjoyed golfing and bowling. He is a member of the Holy Name Catholic Church, Kimberly, the Quarter Century Club of Kimberly Clark, the Fox Valley Golf Club and Jacob Coppus Post # 258 of the American Legion, Little Chute.

    He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Elizabeth [Betty Scherer] Vander Velden; four children and their spouses; Susan and Gerald Van Grisven, Bruce and Sue Vander Velden, all of Kimberly; Robert and Pauline Vander Velden, Appleton; Ann and David Schuh, Kimberly; seven grandchildren; Catherine [Shannon] Schmidt, Jessica and Michael Van Grisven; Alan, Adam, and Aaron Vander Velden; Matthew Schuh; one great grandson; Matthew Schmidt; a brother and sister in-law; Peter and Debbie Vander Velden, Appleton; numerous aunts and uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews and many friends.

    Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Name Catholic Church, Kimberly, with the Rev. David Koch officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Little Chute. Friends may call at the Jansen-Fargo Funeral, 204 E. Kimberly Ave, Kimberly, from 4 to 9 p.m. on Monday and after 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday until the cortege leaves for the church. The American Legion will meet at 7 p.m. Monday and the parish prayer service will be at 8 p.m. Monday. A memorial fund has been established in his name.

    Vander Velden, Elizabeth "Betty" (Scherer) Vander Velden, 74, Little Chute, passed away at Colony Oaks Care Center on Saturday, May 6, 2006. She was born in Philadelphia, Penn., on March 11, 1932, daughter of the late Irvin and Elizabeth (Fritchie) Scherer. On March 23, 1953, she married her husband of 39 years, Richard "Dick" Vander Velden. Betty worked at the Community Blood Center for many years and volunteered her time at Holy Spirit Parish in Kimberly. She enjoyed playing cards, cribbage, and spending time with her friends and family.

    Betty is survived by her children, Susan (Gerald) Van Grinsven, Kimberly; Bruce (Sue) Vander Velden, Darboy; Bob Vander Velden, Appleton; Ann (David) Schuh, Combined Locks; grandchildren, Catherine Ann (Shannon) Schmidt, Jessica (Scott) Dufrane, Michael Van Grinsven, Alan (Alissa) Vander Velden, Adam Vander Velden, Aaron Vander Velden, Autumn and April Vander Velden, Matthew and Maggie Schuh; great-grandchildren, Matthew, Andrew and Christopher Schmidt, Nikki and Bekki Dufrane, and Madisen Elizabeth Van Grinsven, Gavin Vander Velden, and Sofie Vander Velden; her twin brother, Bruce Scherer, Appleton; brother-in-law, Peter (Debbie) Vander Velden, Appleton; and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

    She is preceded in death by her husband, Richard; her parents; a brother, Edward Scherer; and her aunts, uncles and cousins.

    The funeral liturgy will be at 5 p.m. on Thursday, May 11, 2006, at HOLY SPIRIT PARISH, Kimberly Campus, 600 East Kimberly Ave., Kimberly, with Fr. Tom Pomeroy officiating. Friends will be received at the church from 3 p.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery, Little Chute.

    The family extends a special thank you to the staff at Colony Oaks Care Center for their compassionate care of Betty.

    In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund in Betty's name is being established.

  • Note: Ruth Lessor of Little Chute passed away peacefully on June 12, 2017 surrounded by her loving family after a courageous and valiant one year battle with cancer.

    She was born on June 6, 1929 in a small town called Worth an der Donau in the district of Regensburg, in Bavaria, Germany, the only child of Oswin and Theresa (Mayerhofer) Graefe. It was during WWII that she met her husband Joseph and came to America two years later to marry him on April 17, 1948. They shared almost 50 years together and were blessed with five children. He preceded her in death on November 4, 1997.

    Mom, Grandma, and our “Oma” was a remarkable woman with many talents. She had a great sense of humor, was incredibly generous and had the most wonderful capacity to love. She had a deep and unconditional love for her family. There is no doubt they, along with her strong faith, were the most important things in her life.

    She is survived by five children: Sue (Mike) Landreman, Little Chute; Gail Woyak, Little Chute; Tim (Julie) Lessor, Appleton; Bob (Mary) Lessor, Kaukauna; Robin (Mark) Warnke, Appleton. She is further survived by 9 grandchildren: Michelle Landreman, Stephanie Landreman, Chris (Heather) Landreman, Tom (Stephanie) Woyak, Tiffany (Shawn) Williamson, Nick (Amanda) Lessor, Michael (Karissa) Lessor, Adam Warnke, Emily Warnke, Lizz VanDenBerg (fiancé Jon) and Carly (Mike) VandeVoort. 7 great grandchildren: Jack Landreman, Caleb Arndt, Paige Woyak, Aiden and Ava Williamson, Brinley Lessor and Maddie VandeVoort . Cousins: Else Mayerhofer, Rolf (Zenta) Mayerhofer and Ludwig (Annal) Mayerhofer of Germany.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Joseph, her son-in-law Kenneth Woyak and other relatives and friends.

    Visitation for family and friends will be on Friday, June 16, 2017, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 2220 E.     There is no way to thank all the people who cared for Mom on her final life journey. We would also like to extend a special thank you to her neighbors, Tim & Cheryl Myers, and special friend Judy Ralph for all the “extras” they did for her.

    If there is a legacy mom left us with, it is how to love. What a remarkably strong woman she was! She was truly a hero….our hero!

    Nikki enjoyed Zumba dancing and laughing as often as she could. She loved flowers and being in the outdoors and was a great mother to her sons.

    Nikki is survived by her two sons: Cody Ver Voort and Briar Nichols; her father, Jim (Patti) Van Dinter; her mother, Susan LaBorde; a brother, Dan (Debbie) Van Dinter; nieces: Ashley and Brooke Van Dinter; significant other, Jeff; several aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.

    Nikki was preceded in death by her daughter, Kalsi Schaefer; grandson, Brantley Ver Voort; an aunt, Judy Hall; and her maternal and paternal grandparents.

    Memorial services will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 16, 2017, at the Verkuilen-Van Deurzen Family Funeral Home, 101 Canal Street, Little Chute.     Age 81, died Tuesday, June 18, 2002 at St. Elizabeth Hospital. She was born February 13, 1921 in Lith, Netherlands, daughter of Johannes and Adriana (Klaren) Van Lith. Nellie married Nick Vander Wielen in November 1946 in Maren, Netherlands and he preceded her in death April 22, 1992. She was a member of St. John Catholic Church, Little Chute. She enjoyed sewing, knitting and spending time with her family especially, her grandchildren and her brothers and sisters.

    Mrs. Vander Wielen is survived by her daughters: Anja (Tony) Baars, Combined Locks Cathy Johnson, Little Chute seven grandchildren: Anja (Matt) Andres, Yolanda (Bret) Gerrits, Heather (Don) Van Thull, Nick (Janis) Johnson, Michelle Woehler, Jennifer Johnson and Jamie Johnson 15 great-grandchildren, three brothers: Al (Ann) Van Lith, Piet (Korry) Van Lith and Ans Van Lith a sister, Bets (Giel) Van Alem, many nieces, nephews, friends, special friends: Nora Ramirez and Judy Schneze and extended family in Holland. Nellie was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, sisters, brothers-inlaw and sisters-in-law.

    Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday, June 24, 2002 at St. John Church with Rev. Msgr. James Vanden Hogen officiating. Interment will be in St. John Cemetery, Little Chute. Friends may call at the Verkuilen Funeral Home from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday and at the church from 9 a.m. Monday until the time of the mass. A prayer service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Sunday. A memorial has been established.

  • Note: Eugene O. Chevalier, Kaukauna, age 83, passed away on Monday June 17, 2013 after a long struggle with cancer. He was born in Marinette, WI on July 20, 1929, the second son of the late Adrian and Cecelia (Verhayen) Chevalier. Gene lived in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan until he enlisted in the U.S. Army.

    He was a veteran of WWII and the Korean Conflict, having seen combat duty in Korea. Gene also helped build the wire fence at the DMZ in Korea.

    He married Alice Ann Furst on November 20, 1954 and then moved to the Fox River Valley, for a job at Appleton Coated Papers, where he worked for over 30 years.

    Gene was an avid gardener and could hardly wait to get his hands in the dirt in the spring. Later, he made maple syrup from the trees he planted nearly 50 years ago. Gene attended town board meetings and for a while was a volunteer fireman for the Town of VandenBroek. For many years he was honored to be an usher at St. John Nepomucene in Little Chute. He was a great pinochle player.

    Gene loved to fish and enjoyed telling good fish stories. He enjoyed listening to baseball and hockey games and attending many of his grandchildren's school activities.

    In April, 2012, Gene was fortunate to travel to Washington, D.C. on the Old Glory Honor Flight with his daughter Lisa. That day meant a great deal to him. He was a member of the Jacob Coppus American Legion Post 258.

    He worked hard for his family. He enjoyed being with his family. He loved his family.

    Survivors include Alice, his wife of 58 years; children: Mary (Peter) Wallace, Nic (special friend Sandy), Cindy "Sid" (Perry) Killian, Suzanne (Tom) Deering, Jean (Randy Bitter) Chevalier, Jane (Corry Fenske) Chevalier, Nancy (Mark) George, Lisa (Al) Corey and Timothy (Nancy) Chevalier; grandchildren: Emily (Mark) Rademacher, Allison (special friend Chuck) Wallace, Luke Roberts, Leah (Troy) Dukowitz, Lisa (Dan) Peeters, Bobby (Laura) Deering, Ben (Becky) Deering, Megan Martzahl, Rachel (Derek) Sousek, Madeline Bitter, Tyler (special friend Miranda) Lee, Andrew (Amber) Lee, Travis (fiancée Nicole) George, Steven (special friend Julia) George, Daniel (Tressa) George, Michael (special friend Jackalyn) Bastian, Jacqueline (John) Herrick, Betsy (special friend Eliot) Corey, Elena, Eli, Elliot, Everet, Evanna and Elise Chevalier; and 14 great grandchildren. He is further survived by his brothers and sisters: Joyce (Richard) LaLuzerne, Robert (special friend Jean) Chevalier, Tom (Juan) Chevalier, John (Jeanne) Chevalier and Annette (Jerry) Hanson; sister-in-law Reva Chevalier; brother-in-law Eugene Furst; and many nieces and nephews.

    He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother Adrian; daughter-in-law Wendy; and sisters-in-law Joann Chevalier and Norma Furst.

    Visitation will be held Friday June 21, 2013 at ST. JOHN NEPOMUCENE CATHOLIC CHURCH (323 S. Pine St. Little Chute) beginning at 2:00 p.m. until time of Mass at 5:00 p.m. The Rev. Msgr. James Vanden Hogen will officiate. Military rites conducted by the Jacob Coppus American Legion Post 258 will immediately follow. Committal St. John Cemetery.
