    Complete Three Month Job

    Kaukauna-Less than an hour's work remained to finish the 3 months repair job on the huge smokestack of the Thilmany Pulp and Paper Co. sulphate mill at Kaukauna when the cable supports of a scaffold gave way and plunged two men to their death 195 feet to the ground below. The dead men are Richard Janssen, 31, Little Chute, and John J. O'Grady, 27, Chicago.

    Little Chute-Funeral services for Richard Janssen, 31, of this village who was instantly killed Monday afternoon when a cable support of a scaffold gave way on a repair job on a smokestack of the Thilmany Pulp and Paper Co., sulphate mill at Kaukauna, were conducted at 9 o'clock Thursday morning at St. John church by the Rev. James Geyer. Burial took place in the parish cemetery and Father Geyer also conducted the service at the grave. The decedent was born in Little Chute in 1905, and attended St. John parochial school here. Survivors are his mother, Mrs. George G. Janssen, Appleton; two brothers, Ray, Little Chute; Benjamin, Appleton; six sisters, Mrs. Melvin Rettler, Mrs. Arthur Hintz, Mrs. Herbert Smith, Misses Rose and Dorothy Janssen, Appleton; and Mrs. John Jaykoski, Menasha.

    Memorial service will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 29, 2015 at First United Presbyterian Church, 305 West Elm Street, Abbotsford, Wisconsin with Reverend Marica Thomas officiating. Family and friends are invited to gather at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 AM until time of services.

    Kenneth was born March 7, 1933 in Gillett, Wisconsin, the son of Richard and Beatrice (Schroeder) Conrad. On January 9, 1960 he married Barbara (Wussow) Conrad. She preceded him in death on August 21, 2014.

    Kenneth was a longtime employee of the City of Abbotsford. He enjoyed sports, crossword puzzles, and spending time with his family and friends. He was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church in Abbotsford.

    He is survived by his children, Valerie (Paul) Knautz of Abbotsford, Wisconsin, Michael (Tammy) Conrad of Cottage Grove, Wisconsin, Susan (Monty) Matthews of Pratt, Kansas, and Adam (Molly) Conrad of Richfield, Minnesota; grandchildren, Nichole, Tyler, Sarah, Jordan, Patrick, Parker, Kenneth, Samuel and Georgia; great grandchildren, Bentley, Maci and Aiden; and brothers Wayne (Cecilia) Conrad of Manitowoc, Wisconsin and Bruce Conrad of Appleton, Wisconsin.

    He is preceded in death by his wife, Barbara, parents and a son Richard Conrad.

On May 17, 1941, Marie married Andrew Van Dera in Freedom; he preceded her in death on February 26, 2000. Marie enjoyed reading, knitting, sewing, and the company of her dog Tammy. In her younger years, she enjoyed spending time with her family camping and living up north for a short time.

    Marie is survived by two daughters: Darlene (Mark) McAndrews of Darboy; Linda (Marshall) Bayorgeon of Kaukauna; two sons: LeRoy (Judy) Van Dera of Mackville and Gordon (Pam) Van Dera of Kaukauna; ten grandchildren: Carol (Brian) Jacobs, Carla (Tim) Mueller, Keith Van Dera, Brian (Kelly) McAndrews, Corey Van Dera, Heather Van Dera, Sarah (Chris) Balgie, Christopher Bayorgeon, Leah Bayorgeon, and Jordan Bayorgeon; thirteen great-grandchildren: Kyle, Michael, and Taylor Jacobs; Amanda and Travis Mueller; Jasmine and Tatiana Van Dera; Taylor and Tanner Van Dera; Alexander and Hunter Balgie; Miranda McAndrews; and Quentin Bayorgeon; a sister: Harriet Green of Little Chute; a sister-in-law: Sylvia Van Dera of Clintonville; a brother-in-law: Arthur Hendricks of Freedom. Marie was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Henry and Nicholas Schumacher, a son-in-law Bernard Hruska, and many sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.

    The funeral liturgy for Marie will be held on Tuesday, June 1, 2004 at 5:00 PM at the funeral home chapel with Fr. Jack Mullarkey officiating. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 3:00 PM until the time of the service.

  • Note: Darlene M. McAndrews, age 69, passed away Monday, January 12, 2015, at Brewster Village after a lengthy illness. Darlene was born on February 25, 1945 at St. Elizabeth Hospital, daughter of the late Andrew and Marie Van Dera. On November 20, 1971 Darlene married Mark McAndrews in Kaukauna. Darlene was employed at Bergs Dry Cleaners, Kaukauna Klub, Larry's Piggly Wiggly and as a crossing guard for the City of Kaukauna.

    Darlene is survived by her husband, Mark McAndrews, Darboy; son, Brian (Kelly) McAndrews, West Bend; two grandchildren, Miranda and Cameron McAndrews. She is further survived by two brothers, Leroy (Judy) Van Dera, Mackville, Gordon (Pam) Van Dera, Kaukauna; sister, Linda (Marshall) Bayorgeon, Kaukauna.

    Darlene is preceded in death by her parents and late husband, Bernard Hruska.

    Visitation will take place on Friday, January 16, 2015 from 4 pm until the time of service at 6 pm at O'CONNELL FUNERAL HOME (1776 E. Main Street, Little Chute). Rev. Ron Belitz will be officiating. Inurnment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery.

    The family would like to extend their gratitude to Dr. Tom Lewandowski, his staff and the staff on the 3rd floor and AMC. They kept Darlene going well past her expiration date, with a good quality of life.
